Kjw Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Can't believe how many different labels he recorded on - Peritone, Back Beat, Quazar, Red Sun, Yellow Horizon, Feron, Mercury, Paradise, Phil LA Of Soul, Jetstream, Fair Play, Sophie + some others that I can't remember at the moment
Sjclement Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I can't believe this is the only reference to this single by the man, shares the same b side as 4 corner get down which seems to be more available than this perhaps it was shelved and 4 C's issued instead?Mohttps://youtu.be/XGEGjC9G4g4re info please No mention in Manships guide either

boba Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Can't believe how many different labels he recorded on - Peritone, Back Beat, Quazar, Red Sun, Yellow Horizon, Feron, Mercury, Paradise, Phil LA Of Soul, Jetstream, Fair Play, Sophie + some others that I can't remember at the moment he had an extremely long career -- early '60s to '90s

Guest Pointman Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 (edited) Nice early one of his on Lock-Key for the R&B/Popcorn crowd, love playing this one out Oscar Perry - Big Sam "Big Sam" is a great one and mighty tough to turn up even in Houston. Edited March 14, 2014 by Pointman
Andreas B Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 "Big Sam" is a great one and mighty tough to turn up even in Houston. Quite tough, Pointman. I turned mine up in fairly rough but playable shape in Denmark of all places - though it did come from an American mate here who's an obsessive digger when he's back home, most likely came out of New York somewhere. 1
Ian Dewhirst Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 The biggest gap in my collection is an all-embracing Oscar Perry comp. He's well overdue for a career perspective. Ian D 2
Ian Dewhirst Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Think this has been done Ian. Cheers Paul Really? Not to my knowledge mate. Details please. I want his Peri-Tone, Mercury and Golden Horizon recordings on CD if poss..... Ian D
Andreas B Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Think this has been done Ian. Cheers Paul really, spill the beans Paul!
Soul Shrews Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I seem to remember a CD revue in "In The Basement" mag some years ago of Oscar Perry but wether this included the Peri Tone tracks I'm not sure. I"ll try and find it. Cheers Paul
Sjclement Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 There are two "Crazy Cajun" CDs but they do not cover all of his stuff Quite rightly the man deserves a career retrospective what do you think Ian? ;-) 1
Soul Shrews Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Yep just found one(vol1)on UK Edsel reviewed in Ãn The Basement" mag 15 from 1999 Tracks on that one taken from 73-77 though not featuring his northern tracks. Not sure whats on vol 2. Think theres a US comp as well but featuring later material ? Cheers Paul
Guest Pointman Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I decided I'll take offers on my copy. Hope it's okay to post this in the thread. I apologize if it's frowned upon.
