Guest Fatius Bumius Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 There's one on in Sydney if you fancy being a die hard traveller I'd only venture that far if they were going to play SOMAT a bit different

Md Records Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Well, I've asked the question before and nearly all the promoters have told us that they have a good one, so this isn't a problem...............................because there's 1000's and 1000's of soul fans to go round. Des Parker

Des Parker And they are all doing it for the right reasons, most of em are bringing something different to the table, if any clash with another venue they couldn't help it because it was the only night the club had available (not bothering in the first place isn't an option) NS is the new bingo Pete Eccles

Stevie Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 The reason being there was only just enough DJ's to go around then now There's a lot of truth to that Ted - Problem is some of the DJs are still playing the same sets
Md Records Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Saturday night in the Gloucester area there are 3 events Des Parker
Simon T Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 (edited) Thing is there was as many turning out then as there is now, just everywhere was packed then, looking at some of the pics in the gallery (granted not a definite reflection) and some of em could've been held in one of the promoters front room, The lack of people in the photos is for Health & Safety reasons; due to the possible effects of the flash photography on people suffering from epilepsy, the pictures have to be taken before or after the paying punters are there. Well that was what I was told by a promoter ........ Edited September 4, 2008 by Simon T

Only to read in feedback it was rammed

Guest Fatius Bumius Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Events "Rammed" when there's a bit of no one there going off is all down to camera shy folks (whatever lol) People were there, it was rammed solid...Lookback section never lies Does it ? and what does "Good turn out" mean? This weekends Soul Forecast: Folks this weekend will be thinly spread out in Notts with a good percentage heading for Stoke and missing out the Notts soul nights altogether.
Steve Myers Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Bloody gutted I am, its me me birthday Saturday, while I was trying to decide which local event to go to, the parents have decided to organise a family evening (pie and peas and dean martin) Yawn.
Guest Gogs Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 we've got two up here in edinburgh, friday night gilmerton miners welfare with guest dj's Scotland's own Mr Kenny Burrell and the legend that is Chris King (tickets sold out a couple of weeks ago) and saturday we have the spiders web which is always a good night with resident dj's George wallace, shuggy and the "man" Mr Fraser Dunn plus guest.

That's as maybe but your family evening may well prove to be the best attended Derek
Guest Fatius Bumius Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 (edited) Oooo another one on Saturday which is just under 10 miles away, 4 for Saturday, and 4 on Friday all within easy reach, 3 under 15 miles away and 1 under 20 miles. 8 Soul nights, that's madness gone madder than mad !!! No wonder I used to be skint, two soul nights every week, week in week out What a brain numbing experience What's my deciding factor on where to go when there's so many to pick from ? Music policy/Guest DJs/Mates (sheep follow)/Socialise/Distance - down to the nearest 20 yards if in Notts /Dancefloor/Admission Price/Beer Prices/Clean Loo/Smoking shed/Nibbles on the bar (sad if you pick this one lol) /friendly bar staff (even sadder)... ermmmm...... (just thinking out loud to myself, not trying to change topic think i'll go with the nibbles ) Edited September 5, 2008 by Fatius Bumius

Guest Soultown andy Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Well, I've asked the question before and nearly all the promoters have told us that they have a good one, so this isn't a problem...............................because there's 1000's and 1000's of soul fans to go round. Des Parker There are about 10 [maybe] venues that are always full regardless of what else is on the rest are half empty or have the odd ok attendance,if you want a good laugh read the events lookbacks their are some excellent works of fiction in their and the best ones come from some very highly regarded ss members.
Md Records Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 (edited) Andy, we both agree that when you come off Soul Source and enter the real world it's a different story regardless of how many "postings, lookbacks etc etc" there are on this site. In Middleton's case, regardless of what anybody feels about the music, promoter, cost of drinks, how many posts there are about it, it's GENUINELY never "quiet". The irony is, when you enter Soul Source and the "Virtual Soul Scene" every venue is busy!!! Des Parker Edited September 6, 2008 by SOUL.INC

Des Parker The problem is dez the lookback write ups are very misleading, like yourself im out and about all the time and as you say some of these busy venues we read about on here turn out to be the promoters and there mates, the real soul scene is a very different place to the virtual one.
Guest Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 34 make that 35 coz i'm having one in my kitchen , coz i have to stay in this weekend
Guest smudgesmith Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 The reason being there was only just enough DJ's to go around then now Nail on the head Ted.................oh im a poet
soulsalmon Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Nail on the head Ted.................oh im a poet Ted i think the problem ,is that most minor promoters(no offence intended) i.e local soul nights dont check for conflicts in their area before setting dates or it could be that these are the only dates available to them, this problem seems to be more prevalent than it was in the past. There are venues in the northwest that will always pull in the punters(Prestwich,Middleton,Burnley) so why organise a local do on the same night ?.Iknow a lot of them put a lot of time ,effort and money into it ,but you struggle to recover your outlay ,why bother?.On another point if we went back to traditional start time for nighters i.e 12.00,most of the so called warm up do's would get more punters in.Only my thougts.

Sorry mate really cant agree with you there, I spent 2 days a couple of months back trying to sort our dates out for the rest of this year and all of next year and I checked for conflicts all over the place especially venues that have a similar music policy. I have made sure that we don't clash with any of the big nighters well the ones whose dates I had available but still not sure about one as their dates havn't been put up for next year but there probably still trying fit their dates in with everything else but we had to go ahead an book otherwise we would have lost out on the dates we wanted. Anyway just checked tonight's events and there are another 31 listed on SS plus there will be others not on here. Sharon
