Jenko Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 (edited) Back in the day of WC the Wolverhampton and Preston crowd used to be very friendly with each other mostly congregating at the front of the dance floor and sat on the edge of the stage, just wondered how many of the old Preston crowd still get out and about , I know a few have gone on to the great soul venue in the sky. remember , Wes , Daffy , Eddie ,Tex , Gaz Kellett amongst others from up that way. cheers Jenko Edited March 23, 2021 by Jenko

Guest Stuart Raith Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Pete Lawson had a similar photo in his first magazine Hiya Joan, Yeah - the Gospel according to DG... I did the artwork for the mag - vol 1 and 2... shame really, I lost my copies. I made the big eyes out of tipex on a print... Pete loved it! (I prefer your version tho Funny thing, last year I found a cardboard box full of letters that Pete wrote to me over the years, reading them now give a 'snapshot' back to what was going on his life at the time... incredibly funny and yet sad at the same time. Re the photo outside the 100 club, It took us 13 hours to travel from London back to Preston after that niter... what a carry on ;-) S
Sean Hampsey Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Are they the same as the Preston street dancers, used to take air horns and stuff into clifton hall. I was gonna ask the same question, Ken. The 'Preston Street Dancers' were legendary, in the Clifton Hall days. Used to really liven up the place - even during my last hour! What happened to them? Where are they now? Sean
Guest Stuart Raith Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Are they the same as the Preston street dancers, used to take air horns and stuff into clifton hall. No Ken - the street dancers were younger, better looking, fitter, preferred modern stuff and far more energetic - we were a bit like robots in Levi's with big bulging eyes and a love for all things pre 1970 ;-)

Looks good actually. I still have all my letters from him also... some are completely certifiable... and yet others are just so sweet they make you want to cry. Especially the ones he sent just before he died. Pete was such a complicated man... and yet he wasn't. You know what I mean. x

Dennisoul Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Always a full contingent up for Allanton/ Shotts...Bruce brought a cabbage for a pal once. Even the cabbage was encouraged to dance, on the middle of the floor it was. Great bunch, massive into 60s newies.

Louis Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Known at Stafford as 'The Preston Cybermen' something to do with there slow almost robotic dance style. There week in, week out. Sadly Gaz has had a rough life since then, Stan came to my wedding a couple of years ago, top guys one and all. Nothing to do with dancing, cybermen because they all came from the same planet and it wasnt this one The real reason they were called the Preston cybermen was that all of us had massive pupils just like the cybermen. It was Gaz kellett who first used the phrase at a top of the world event. He always said to me that I wasn't a real Preston cyberman as I was born in Yorkshire and supported Leeds. First time I remember seeing and talking to Gaz for the first time was on a sunday night at the roper hall in Preston (think he was 15 at the time). He had an army balaclava on wearing it back to front with 2 clothes pegs attached looking like antennas. Gaz came to my wedding in 1979 with a get wellsoon card and 2 fly swatters (a blue and pink one!) Had many an eventful journey over the years with Gaz, (Casino Prestonions- Gordon, Wes(RIP, Joey etc.) Stan, Dave Molloy, Billy, Shentz etc and Pete Lawson (RIP). Preston/Leyland and north west had a good crew in those days..................Happy Days Louis (Never allowed to be a cyberman! (according to Gaz) even though I lived in Preston from 5 years old to 24 years old and drove em all over the place ! 1
