matty s Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Has anyone got a copy of this that they want to part with ?
Guest lotusland Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Never seen this sell before.. great 45. Very tough to turn up even in Milwaukee (where it's from)
Keithw Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Has anyone got a copy of this that they want to part with ?not got a spare only one i d.j with old johnny beggs spin @ steam no idea of value------anyone?
Guest lotusland Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 not got a spare only one i d.j with old johnny beggs spin @ steam no idea of value------anyone? I buy/sell 45s out of Milwaukee for about 10 years now and seen 2 copies ever. Considering its a monster tune I'd say this would make it fairly valuable. No one knows it though so I could see a stray ebay copy going cheap. I know what I'd sell a spare for but don't want to ruin this guys thread, so
Pauldonnelly Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I'm bloody sure this was a Torch Spin, sold my copy to James (I'm looking for) Trouble last year for £35. Dropped another bollock?
Ted Massey Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I bought one of Des Parker a couple of Middletons ago for £35 bit of label damage, got to be £60 for a minter
JOE TORQUAY Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) HI, I SEE HIS RARER ONE IS ON EBAY NOW, AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS IS A BIT RARER THAN ( TO GOOD TO BE TRUE ) , Trackdown-Harvey Scales-Magic Touch Item number: 370081009877 https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=024 Edited August 31, 2008 by JOE TORQUAY
Dylan Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 I would have thouhg 30-50 would get one of these ? but who knows could go up ? sold mine for about 30 a couple of years ago.
Soulbarner Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 i gave $100 last year and it took some finding, this is a lot harder than you'd think imo
Guest lotusland Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I think $100 is really a cheap price in relation to the rarity and quality of this 45. As far as a comparison of the rarity between Trackdown + Too Good To Be True I'd have to put them in a dead tie. Magic Touch titles are funny, half of em are everywhere.. the other half NEVER turn up (Mar-J's, Tornado's, handful of different Harvey titles, Sean 'Mr Esquire' Taylor, etc)

Considering its a monster tune I'd say this would make it fairly valuable. No one knows it though so I could see a stray ebay copy going cheap. I know what I'd sell a spare for but don't want to ruin this guys thread, so I've had at least 3 copies of this and passed on a couple beat up copies (I won't anymore I guess). Obviously it's not common, but some of the other magic touch titles are rarer, like "welcome home" (that someone mentioned already). There is a wikipedia article which is missing a lot of titles, but it has this: Cuca J-1271 Harvey & The Seven Sounds "Independency/ I Want To Apologize" that's crazy, i've never seen or heard of that cuca title. I recorded all of Harvey's singles for him, it took up two CDs, I thought I had all the singles but I guess I'm missing that cuca title...
Harrogatesoul Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 There's been some quiet and steady demand for this over the last year or so. - Me? I like 'Trying To Survive' - Very nice. Rich
Guest SteveC Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Acquired one recently - £75 which I thought was reasonable. Good luck in your quest.
Dylan Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 certainly sold mine to soon then. It was never talked about and seemed to have very little demand when I sold it. its is a good uptempo record just not the kind of thing I realy feel the need to keep.
Iancsloft Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Was played at the Torch late 72 use to be plenty copies knocking around in the 70,s Global records in Princess St Manchester had copies and if i remember rightly Record corner use to put them in their Soul Packs I sold a copy to that nice man Mr Donnelly couple years back for £25 and i saw a copy at Lowton earlier this year for £40 so i would guess if you are looking for this 45 then you have a much better chance of locating one here in the UK than Stateside. Regards Ian Cunliffe
Md Records Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 How rare is the "Magic Touch" instrumental by the 7 Sons in comparism? Des Parker

Without wishing to hijack your thread, I am desperate for a copy of 'Trying to Survive' if anyone out there has one lying around... Dave Ripolles

Independency/I Want to Apologize is a really rare one but a couple of us in MKE have it. it's on the Harvey CD that the Musical Memories guys put together as well. Really good 45 actually, one side is northern and the other is a great ballad. Bootleg/Monkeytime 67' is a really tough pull as well.

Also, have you seen some rock LP by the Bonnevilles that Sam Pace said had the first instance of the esquires on record?

I have the two devils 45s and the step by step. I have one of the little artie and the pharoahs 45s and it's not very good, I think there are two other ones. are any of those good?
Guest lotusland Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Woah, didn't know there was 2 by the Devils. Only know 'Love and Understanding' , which is amazing. What's the other one? How is it? I've only heard one Little Artie and it was terrible. Have some other ancient Milwaukee stuff like Doris Tolbert, Willie White, Vernon Yancey .. many with the early 'Blue Matts' (later Marvelle Love's group) backing. A lot of that's pretty good.

I will pm you audio of the other devils 45 later, it has a deep soul side that would appeal to the deep soul collectors I think. I have a double of the rare gary brown on magic touch if you need that and want to trade (it's a much better version than the brownie 45).
