Prophonics 2029 Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 B-side is fantastically great for a lazy 6 o'clock shuffle.

Tony Smith Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 F**k me, there's been some heavy stuff on Ebay of late, these 2, Eric Mercury, Tommy & Derbys, Dennis Edwards (admittedly cracked), Margaret Little, Pee Wee, Shuck, Jimmy Delphs Demo all there for a modest lotto win!
Marc Forrest Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Who's even ever heard this one played out!?! Everybody who goes to the Hip City Soul Club Berlin...regulary

Harrogatesoul Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 The La Beat 45s - Described as Mint - Unplayed. Now there's something you dont see ... hardly ever. A premium on top of an already staggering price tag. Rich
bri pinch Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 The La Beat 45s - Described as Mint - Unplayed. Now there's something you dont see ... hardly ever. A premium on top of an already staggering price tag. Rich who,s to guess what this beauty will go for would have thought well over 3 k, tis 20 times harder than al williams( not supremely rare). up in this neck of the woods think i,ve only ever heard it played out once maybe twice, on original and probably at the wilton ballroom. BRI PINCH.
Corbett80 Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 (edited) The Little Major Williams was buggered tho...had a skip and was graded by Manx at 4- his lowest grade. I stuck a punt on though as the skip side was Girl Don't Leave Me (brilliant as well) and he often grades very conservatively i've found....saw a VG+ JT Rhythm he sold and it was easily a minter.... Had a go on that VG Willie Tee on light blue Gatur (best version of it) that went for about £110!! Worth a go if it turns up and plays ok.... Edited August 27, 2008 by mulf

Worth a go if it turns up and plays ok.... how much did Lil Major Williams fetch? that was the second copy he put up on ebay within a few weeks, both pretty knackered. Yes, he usually grades very conservatively, but you can't bet, as I bought records graded 5 or 6 and they are in the lowest condition I would accept, down from there you wouldn't enjoy a record..but more than fair grading overall. Hope this not too off-topic
Guest stromberg Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 couple of Lil Major Williams too, one last night went for just over $500. okay, my question from the previous post answered..
Chalky Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 okay, my question from the previous post answered.. I think it was $511.99 top be precise. Think the other one couple of weeks ago which from the photo was roughly about as rough was approx $750
Dylan Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Who's even ever heard this one played out!?! most people who attend rare soul clubs ? this is just the type of rare record known by almost everybody on the scene but by nobody of it which is why we are all involved.
Guest MarkP Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Just to find a Lester Tipton in any kind of condition is a big ask, as the story goes that Lou Beatty had 1000 pressed, managed to sell around 250-300 copies and the other 700+ went in a dumpster. I remember seeing the La Beat acetate at the Casino for sale at £80 (in Kev Roberts box i think) around 1980, (how much now?) but never seen a La Beat issue. So to have a minter is just fantastic. The story must be roughly the same with the Al Williams disc, so why Palmer picked that up for release is anyones guess, and its just as (if not more) rare on Palmer. I think the story with the guy selling them is that he is a dj on the American Northern/Beach scene, the Dennis Edwards was his also plus he has sold a few other big ticket numbers in the last few months. Good luck to him and the people who end up owning these discs, (it wont be me thats for sure, i`ll have to stick with my Grapevine copies), and dont forget to put a new needle in the head EVERY time you play them, just in case...........OUCH. I would be scared to take them out of the sleeve.

Brad Hales, the guy from People's records of detroit (who has been discussed here before, specifically when his old store burned town) is the seller burl*one. re: recordmanx, I don't think his grading is particularly conservative, but to each his own I guess. I do like that he lists a lot of 45s and I do bid on his auctions a lot, he's a reliable person.

rswells Posted August 27, 2008 Author Posted August 27, 2008 He's got some shocking feedback though - either records are knackered or don't turn up at all https://www.toolhaus.org/ put his user id in I don't think that's really a fair thing to say. Many of the disputes were either 1) eventually settled with feedback mutually withdrawn or 2) look to be the fault of the buyer and not the seller. Brad's a great guy - anyone who's ever met him would tell you the same. He definitely fell on some hard times when his store burned down last March, but selling records like these ones on La Beat will surely help him to get back on track financially.
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Dennis Edwards (admittedly cracked) ...pity they all aren't cracked - in half, would be better still... Hope you're well, Tone!
Dean Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Luvin the optimism, started at $9.99 and there was a bid for $10
Guest Pete Griffin Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I emailed the guy to see how many he had of Lester Tipton? he never replied. Maybe he has more, like when the Clara Hardy and Lary Triders turned up by different ebayers. Pete Griff

Maybe he has more, like when the Clara Hardy and Lary Triders turned up by different ebayers. Pete Griff I'd very much doubt it. But we can all live in hope! Noticed that the same guy is highest bidder on both the Lester Tipton and the Al Williams. Come on... own up...
Marc Forrest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Brad's a great guy - anyone who's ever met him would tell you the same. One of the most reliable sellers on ebay, and a fantastic guy as well. Would always stand up for him. It sure isn`t easy for him to sell these items out of his private collection which he needs to do just because of that **** fire which destroyed his shop. To find a Lester Tipton in nearly unplayed condition is as rare as to walk into a Porsche shop and find there an untouched 356.... I had to wait and look 23 years for mine to finally come along and its not untouched (Lester that is not a 356). Marc
Tony Foster Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 The muts nuts without a doubt!!! What a tune!!!

Jumpinjoan Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 a serious amount of money. Wonder if he's looking for a return on this investment ? I would say how do you know its not a 'she'... But would any woman fork out that much money on a couple of bits of vinyl?

Prophonics 2029 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I spoke to him last night about the smelling of Nothern Soul he says Hey! I have 140 people watching the record the most ever. I guessed at 6500 but 7200 is even better.
Dylan Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 wonder if that price will bring another copy or 2 out onto ebay ?
Prophonics 2029 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 $7200 not sure what that is in £ err cheaper than a Maggie Little.
