soulAdequateNP Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 You can also buy it direct. I thought I'd put the link up an hour ago, but looking at the post, it clearly didn't take. Here it is. https://www.wienerworld.com/wworld.php?catnumber=WNRD2174 Or if you're very quick, there are 3 left in stock at Amazon as I type: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Strange-World-Nort...9847&sr=8-1
soulAdequateNP Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 (edited) You can download the song for free (with an advert) from Sonys we7 site. http//we7.com. You have to regiester first, but there are plenty more of Ian's Motor City songs available on the site. It's also available on iTunes for 79p - or as part of the album "Soul of Detroit Vol 4", 16 tracks for £7.99 Edited September 8, 2008 by soulAdequate

Guest Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 It's also available on iTunes for 79p - or as part of the album "Soul of Detroit Vol 4", 16 tracks for £7.99 Yes, that's the proper legal one.
Guest Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Just out of curiosity, has the starter of this topic and its original part 1 forerunner responded to any other topic since they came back on this site a few weeks ago? Ed I clearly said that I would stay in this one topic. If I go into others, I run the risk of brushing up against people who I wish to avoid and who have no interest in me or what I do. I have no wish to get embroiled in another war. By only posting inside this one thread, then people know full well what they're getting into before they click on the title. I wouldn't go into a Country and Western forum to criticise their music, and I hope that people who don't like what I do will leave us alone in here, to correspond in peace and quiet.
Guest Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 So, as promised. The worldwide premiere. I proudly present to you the trailer for what must be our finest hour. 'NORTHERN SOUL'S 200 GREATEST FLOORFILLERS" Please watch and enjoy. This is for EVERYBODY. ">

I just wondered if you were remotely interested in what other soul sources are having to say and if you felt inclined to join in. Maybe you should consider it and get involved. Part of the fun is to get your thoughts and opinions deliberated over. You never know you might enjoy it. Ed

If they want to ask me something, here I am, ready to answer. I can discuss my productions feely in a thread that's entitled "Ian Levine". If I did so in another thread it would seem churlish. And at the same time I can answer any questions about The Mecca or The Torch etc etc. It seems to have worked. The two threads have had nearly 100,000 views so someone seems to be enjoying them. So tell me, Ed. In the past you have been none too fond of my work. So did you like the new trailer at all, and will you be obtaining a copy in six weeks ????

Ed ian , do you think it churlish of some site members to voice reservations they might have about the production of the Souled Out film or have they raised most site members concerns ?
Guest Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 ian , do you think it churlish of some site members to voice reservations they might have about the production of the Souled Out film or have they raised most site members concerns ? I have nothing to do with this film, and yes, I did post on that thread, but it went off topic, so I started this thread instead, as per Mike Hughes' instructions. I personally do not like the lynch mob mentality that I witnessed of people bullying the Director, dictating what sort of songs should be in the film. I found it quite soul destroying, and as so many Soul Source members are up in arms about it, like protesters outside an abortion clinic, I need to steer clear for fear of getting embroiled in a nasty argument, because I personally think they have been shockingly closed minded and reactionary. And I perceive their demands as being most damaging all round. My philosophy is that the music is all about the sound of the song, and NOT the year that it was recorded, and I feel as strongly about this as they do about their beliefs. And the twain shall NOT meet.
Tomangoes Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Hello Ian If you produce something I like, sure I would buy it, why not? I just think you could get more from this site than whether the sources like your latest musical offerings. Ed
Guest sarahleen Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 yes it did all get a bit nasty didnt it , i cant say being called a fascist was my favourite moment but to be fair the thread did start as an advert and i think few people realised the director was reading the damn thing anyway . i thought the advert was some kind of computerised message done by a recruitment robot or something after seeing it plastered all over the "soul" internet.

Guest Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 just ordered the 200 greatest floorfillers from amazon. Brilliant price there. I found it https://www.amazon.co.uk/Northern-Souls-Gre...9861&sr=1-2 At first I looked in disbelief and thought to myself that I cannot get my head round the fact that they can offer it for sale at £26.25. That's over three pounds cheaper than Wienerworld themselves, who are offering it five pounds cheaper than in the shops. They'd be losing money on every copy they sold. BUT......... AND HERE IT COMES........... Amazon quote you the price without VAT which is very nasty and crafty. I have fallen for that before with Amazon. The VAT takes it to £30.84 plus about three quid shipping. Wienerworld are offering it at £29.99 including VAT and the shipping is free. I know where I would rather buy it....
Guest Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Ian ................ that advertising is really soooooooooooooooo patronising ! That sucks dude ! Sort it out ???????????? It's the trailer for YouTube. It was designed to appeal to people who like Northern Soul but aren't necessarily on the current scene. It was made for a larger market. I just thought I'd let you all see it the day it was completed. What's to sort out ?????????????
Pete Eccles Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Ian ................ that advertising is really soooooooooooooooo patronising ! That sucks dude ! Sort it out ???????????? We all love American music, but 'sucks' and 'dude' Cmon please?

It was made for a larger market. I just thought I'd let you all see it the day it was completed. What's to sort out ????????????? I am a original 60s vinyl collector and I had been looking at your stuff on here and getting to grips with what you have filmed and started to feel and respect it for what it actually is! Please dont ruin it with crass adverts like this and a remington vocal ! We are not a product........we are real 60s music fans !
Dave Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 And what in particular were you thinking of me getting more from ??? Maybe Ed thought you might have a tiny bit of interest in the real northern/rare soul scene? You know.. the one where thousands of people attend events to enjoy music every weekend? The sort of thing that this site is about? No? Ah well, silly idea really.
Guest sarahleen Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 the voiceover says i cant "exist" without it . ian , have you got something to do with this hedron collider caper on wednesday ?

Guest Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 ian , have you got something to do with this hedron collider caper on wednesday ? It's scaring me shitless. It's no use once the damage is done for them to say "Whoops, we miscalculated". They are tampering with the forces of nature that should be left alone. It's like a classic Doctor Who plot, but it's real. And it makes me very very worried. I just hope we're all still here to buy "Northern Soul's 200 Greatest Floorfillers".

Guest Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 (edited) As I said, the advert was more designed to appeal to Mr and Mrs Joe Bloggs who went to Wigan Casino in 1977, rather than the current occupants of the Rare Soul Scene. I posted it on here because I THOUGHT some people might enjoy the clips on it. There are LOTS AND LOTS of clips on it, of classic records. I already knew Kev Roberts' spiel wouldn't appeal to every single member of Soul Source. Peace ! Even after 20 "methdioxymetmampehtamone tablets !.................. your advertising is really shit ! Get a new advert department dude ! Some of your recordings of the old boys are spectacular ! but this trailer is bad dude..................... !!!! Edited September 9, 2008 by mossy

Dave Moore Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Ian, If the full length performances of the artists are as good as the snippets then congratulations. For me personally, the graphics on the original video release performances were what detracted from the set. It's also difficult to watch over and over again as it's so monolithic. It looks like you may have overcome that problem and maybe realised that more is sometimes not better. I'm really looking forward to seeing the full length versions. Another plus for me is the fact that it's only going to contain the artists performances and not all the scene related 'guff' . (Could only muster so much interest in Kegsy's car etc!!) Sure the promo ads a bit "Goldsoulie, but hey, it's your target market and Kev certainly has an appeal to the nostlagia crowd and it works for him, so fair play to you. I think this is going to please a lot of people who were critical of the first issue. The set is worth the cost just to see the performance of Bob Relf and William Bell! Great stuff. Good Luck with it.

I already knew Kev Roberts' spiel wouldn't appeal to every single member of Soul Source. Nothing wrong with it Ian, I really enjoyed it - BUT - I was a bit surprised at the lack of 'new' versions of the clips you used, most of them were the old ones weren't they - I mean the outdoor shots mainly. Why not use more of the remixed ones like the Tommy Hunt clip right at the end. Apart from that - fantastic, and I'll be buying it today and I think I should let my mailing list know about it too if they don't already.
Pete S Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 sorry dude ! this bit really upset it for me ! Mossy are you alright, what's with the dude talk dude?
Tomangoes Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 And what in particular were you thinking of me getting more from ??? Well I suppose it falls into 2 areas. Commercial interest: Maybe you can guage the kind of music that soul source people want to buy, current trends, styles, etc. Personal interest: Participate in sharing your knowledge, experience and views on the hundreds of topics that get raised. You never know you might learn something and even sell more products. Surely two goals that would make it worthwile. Ed
paup-ine Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Hi Ian, Could you tell me if Barbara Lynn - You're Losing Me is on the new DVD? I have lost the disc of it from SWONS. Many thanks, P
Billy Freemantle Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 (edited) I thought it was excellent trailer. I can imagine that selling lots and lots and lots. As an ad it has just the right amount of balance of 'tell me' versus 'show me', and I felt myself being torn between not wanting a particular clip to end with an urge to see the next one. Great stuff. Edited September 9, 2008 by Billy Freemantle

Maybe you should consider it and get involved. Part of the fun is to get your thoughts and opinions deliberated over. You never know you might enjoy it. Ed ..Have you something against our Moderators Ed?.. The stress, frustration and probable anger that would evolve for Ian and others must totally outweight any benefits of Ian getting involved in other threads surely. With some people having pre-conceived idea's and seemingly never forgiving Ian for tracks he introduced some time ago, it would be impossible. This is Ian's area of expertise and he's been open enough to discuss anything so I can't see the need. No offence meant to anybody. Jayne.x.
Guest Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Hi Ian, Could you tell me if Barbara Lynn - You're Losing Me is on the new DVD? I have lost the disc of it from SWONS. Guest Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Ian, If the full length performances of the artists are as good as the snippets then congratulations. Yes Dave. Every single one of them is. The snippets were chosen at random by the guy making the trailer, which proves my point.
John Al Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 As I said, the advert was more designed to appeal to Mr and Mrs Joe Bloggs who went to Wigan Casino in 1977, rather than the current occupants of the Rare Soul Scene. I posted it on here because I THOUGHT some people might enjoy the clips on it. There are LOTS AND LOTS of clips on it, of classic records. I already knew Kev Roberts' spiel wouldn't appeal to every single member of Soul Source. Well. The trailer is FAR better than I was expecting, loved it. I found the voice over a bit trite but as you say, I am probably not your target audience. Nevertheless, I've ordered a copy and just hope I get to see it before we all disappear into a black hole......... Well done Ian and - THANKS. John.

Guest Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Sure the promo ads a bit "Goldsoulie, but hey, it's your target market and Kev certainly has an appeal to the nostlagia crowd and it works for him, so fair play to you. That was done intentionally for the viewers on YouTube. For example, on YouTube, Frank Wilson has 70,000 hits, whereas Emanuel Lasky has 500. People on Soul Source would rather see Emanuel Lasky than Frank Wilson. So the trailer, which was made for YouTube, appeals to the "wider" Northern Soul casual fan, not so much the purist. Maybe it was a mistake posting the trailer here on Soul Source then. But conversely, after the first couple of minutes of Goldsoul type spiel, there are over six minutes of just clips of the acts, almost uninterrupted, save for the artists name. You can move the bottom bar along and cut out the first three minutes if anyone wants to.
Pete S Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Maybe it was a mistake posting the trailer here on Soul Source then. Why would you think that? I was gonna buy it anyway - after watching the trailer I'm even more persuaded to do so.
