Reg Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Ian did you see the Lorraine Rudolph article in the Washington Post that Mike flagged on news? Did you ever come across her before?
Guest Simon Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 "Phuck off" I hissed through clenched teeth. Knock, nudge, knock, nudge, middle aged old bag with flailing arms trying her best to provoke. I just saw red. 'PHUKKKKKKKK OFF" I yelled, elbowing her as hard as I could, after eight years of boxing training. She went flying across the room into a crowd of people and I carried on filming my beloved song. Brilliant! I don't know why but this really tickles me! Simon P.S. I've added some emoticons to give the story even more spice!

Ritchieandrew Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 The second picture is Wigan, me and Carol Bastock doing the Mecca handjive. Definitely, in 1976. But yes the first one is the Ritz. Sorry Ian...........both the Ritz. I never went to Wigan in 1976, neither did Trevor Groves who took both Pictures. Regards Ritchie.
Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Sorry Ian...........both the Ritz. I never went to Wigan in 1976, neither did Trevor Groves who took both Pictures. Yes but isn't that picture in Russ Winstanley's book ?? If it isn't there's one in there that looks very like it.

Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Sure was on Prelude "You brought it on Yourself" Being a far superior track IMHO! Andy. That was a big old Mecca record by Barbara Hall on a tiny little Chicago label called Innovation II. You're getting confused.

You have no idea about my finances, and are adding up two and two and getting three hundred and seventy nine. Frankly, I am shocked and appalled that someone who was creative enough to write a play, should be as reactionary and closed minded as are some of the trolls on here. Quite surprised and sadly shocked and depressed by it. I would have expected much much better from someone like you.

Reg Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) I'm unsure what difference there is between Ian coming on here talking about his past work and the new DVD to a promoter bigging up his night, saying its the best night ever,"if you don't go you must be a nothing, blah blah". How are people expected to market their soul "product"(for want of a better word) without talking about it on forums like this or have we all suddenly developed a 6th sense? At least this thread is interesting as opposed to inane waffling from events promoters mates about whos bringing the middles, how many more sleeps there are, how Brian from Blackburn can't make it etc etc etc Edited September 2, 2008 by Reg
Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Think that was Barbara Hall... Confused yes !!!! Barbara Hall "You brought it on Yourself" Mid tempo thing which was the other side of "Drop my heart off at the Door" On Innovation 2, From memory a Sam Dees written item. I was thinking of Gayle Adams, On Prelude, My mistake apologies all round! Andy.
Guest Soul On A Stick Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Hi Ian First of all thank you for your input here, I have enjoyed the clips you have been kind enough to post, and apart from the bickering in this thread I have found it very interesting. Slightly off topic: but do you have any more projects planned with Rocq-E-Harrell? This lady imho has one hell off a voice. Regards Paul
Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Never seen it i'm afraid Ian Simon You'd like Babylon 5. Trust me on this. Try to watch "Point Of No Return" and "Severed Dreams" from series three, and you'll be so hooked you'll go back to the start and watch them all.

I did not like my CV posted on this forum. Most of it has nothing whatsoever to do with this forum. I am appalled and disgusted by your attitude, and you should know better. AS a business man, on the soul scene and selling soul (loose term obviously), your CV has EVERYTHING to do with this forum. We need to be aware of your motives, as a business man and as a person. If you did not sell cds, dvds etc, then YES, it would be irrelivent. Im not saying I know what motives are, but if you post your cv on other sites, why with hold it from this one. Are you ashamed of it? I dont think so, why should you be? Im not ashamed of my cv and indeed , I made it available when I was doing the play. Also, you say you are appalled and sad....well sorry, I was appalled and angry, when you attacked one of my close and very 'soulful' friends on here. So grab a seat, have a cry and get over it. I see you like to 'give' but not 'take'.
Ritchieandrew Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Yes but isn't that picture in Russ Winstanley's book ?? If it isn't there's one in there that looks very like it. Ian, I have never seen Russ's book, but if the Image is in it, I can't see how he ever got hold of the Image. Only a few "Mecca Regulars" were privy to obtaining copies of Trevors shots. People like Dick Watts, Shelvo, Mike Ritson, myself, non of whom were Wigan stalwarts. If he has another copy of that Image in his book down as Wigan Casino, I beg to differ. All my photos are clearly labeled on the back with year & location etc. best Regards Ritchie.

Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Yes Ian and many thanks. If I remember correctly this track was used on swons when you showed people waiting to get into the Mecca, and of course Blackpool tower can be seen in the background. "Seven Days" was another good track but I can't remember the ladys name Regards Paul No, that was Rocq-E Harrell's version, on SWONS. This is Corine Armstrong's version of the same song. "Seven Days" was by Tammi Lavette, and here it is. ">
Sean Hampsey Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 What is ???? The track that Andy is referring to. Its called "You Brought It On Yourself" - It's on Prelude and a different track to Barbara Hall. You and me both thought he was referring to Barbara Hall's 'Sam Dees' song - but he obviously wasn't, he was referring to the Gayle Adams flip to 'Life Saver' Sean
Sean Hampsey Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Prelude 603! Cheers Sean, Thought I'd lost it completely there for a moment! Andy. You're welcome, Andy. It was me and Ian that jumped the gun! Sean

Fookin ell at my age that's an out an out dancer Both sides are written by Sam Dees - the Deep side is awesome too imho (also done by Ben E King) Back on thread topic..............Innovation II - what a great label that always reminds me of The Mecca regulars Pete Haigh, Epic & Pete Mason. All three of them back in the day often told me to buy anything on that label, which I did and am eternally grateful I did, I can tell you!!!! btw I have a good version of "You brought it on yourself" by Lloyd Price too - that's mid tempo too Cheers Steve

Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Yeah a great label, Quadraphonics anyone? Andy. The other side of the Perception String Orchestra "Bet You If You Ask Around" was Velvet. But the same song was retitled "Betcha If You Check It Out" by the Quadrophonics. So why do I keep thinking that was on Warner Brothers ???
Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I do like some Modernish stuff like Star Trek (TNG) & Sliders. Babylon 5 has more in common with classic Doctor Who than it does with either of those two also-rans.

Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 So are you saying it was never on Warner Brothers ??? Not to my Knowledge no, The labels were Perception and Innovation 2. Andy.
Guest Mrs Simsy Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Hi Kylee , apart from John Anderson and Simon Sousann ,I doubt if there is anyone who's discovered as many records as Ian Levine ,people can be critical of his richer than many upbringing , but the one thing money can't buy is taste and during the early to late 70's a huge amount of discoveries ,which are still stone classics , were found by Levine. There are so many questions to be answered from this golden era , we're indeed lucky that Ian has a photographic memory of records and events .I can understand if the newer productions are not to everyone's taste [ there are some I really love , others less so , I just take it record by record ] but you can't re - write history and when I first got hooked on the scene in the early 70's , Levine WAS the man .By the way hope the move went ok ? Best wishes ,Eddie Thanks Eddie, i didn't mean anything bad by it though. I've found this thread really interesting reading for the most part. I love hearing stories of record discoveries & times at The Mecca & Wigan etc. Obviously it was before my time but i like to know the history of the music that i'm passionate about! P.S Move went well thanks though as from tomorrow i'm jobless so if anyone has any work...i promise i don't spend all day on soul source!
Guest Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Not to my Knowledge no, The labels were Perception and Innovation 2. Andy. Can anyone confirm if The Quadrophonics was also issued on Warner Brothers, please ???? Plumby ?????
