There are three in particular that have really made me weary of it all. And wonder why I other. Surely Ian, this is Mikey's personal opinion, and to say substandard depends on what the standard is with Mikey. I know you are proud if your work, and rightly so, anyone would be, but others don't have to like it, and because they don't doesn't mean they are of closed minds.

Kev Roberts is a wonderful guy, who has championed soul music for thirty five years, discovered artists, discovered wonderful records, been a slick and professional DJ, brought our music to a wider audience, played ultra rarities but also played Sidney Barnes and Ronnie McNeir, brought in new recordings like Chairman Of The Board, and made most of the soul scene more open minded outside of the hardcore purists clubs who never would be anyway, and flown people over to the States to see the likes Of Alexander Patton perform, has lost money on gigs yet been accused of being a rip-off merchant, and has been one of the most outstanding people and best friends a man could ever wish for.

I find the years of bitter criticism aimed at him on this forum to be nothing short of excruciating, but as the recipient of much of the same criticism by a few with Marxist tendencies, who view anyone who uses the Northern Soul scene as a business, and dares to charge money for what he does, as the antichrist, and naturally I have great sympathy with him.

This forum is not the nicest of places always, and many so called fans stand on a soapbox to criticise without giving and due care to the hurt they cause.

I love Kev Roberts like a brother, and would defend him with my dying breath.

Good point Steve. I dont hate Levine, im just sick to death of his selective answering of questions. Hate would require more energy than hes worth. I have steered clear of him and his music for 33 years. But, as i said earlier, "why does he feel he can attack members and then complain and cry when its reciprocated? His opening gambit on this site was to openly, by name, attack members. Its his publicity stunt to get attention. Now, he has the attention he wants, apart from 2 people who remember his opening and request an answer......and i will continue requesting.

I absolutely love the Venetia Wilson track. It is a fantastic record, but personally I dont want to hear it at a soul night. I've said all along I dont care that people do, and accept that like, say, The Professionals which I dislike full stop, will be played if a dancefloor wants to dance to it.

The fact that your name is on there as producer makes no difference to me at all. BUT as they have been and are still being played at Northern Soul clubs, and this is a Northern Soul website, I feel I have every right to comment on them. Just as I do authentic tracks from the 60s and 70s.

I have a closed mind as to what I buy, listen to at home or in a car, but accept when walking through a door to a venue that I will get to hear all sorts of stuff that I like or dislike to varying degrees.

As for the Levine must go posters at Scenesville, I remember the content, in fact I think I may have one somewhere. There were things written on ANS about various people and clubs in London, printed off and posted under the headline. They didnt just say Levine must go, they had posts apparently made by you, that the instigator thought the London scene would benefit from seeing. The reactions makes Paul's posts on here laid back in the extreme. People were extremeley upset. Not the guys mentioned but their friends and the people who respected them.

Maybe that is it. People do respect you. I respect you greatly for some of your discoveries that sit proudly in my boxes at home. I also respect many of the targets of your ire, especially from the time of the Rocket. I think maybe you underestimated how respected these guys you probably didnt know, or hadnt heard of are. And your lack of respect was seen as confrontational. If you had just given them some respect and approached the desire to DJ in their clubs in a friendlier manner, then you'd have gotten gigs, and things wouldnt have turned as nasty.

I also respect that you have some of the most loyal friends. You are very lucky indeed.

This thread has has some excellent posts about the songs from the Mecca, and your views on what was happening at Wigan etc, but where in any of the posts have you even hinted at respecting a different opinion to your own? Because I cant see any.

I don't give a flying f**k what anyone has or hasn't done, with regard to contributing to the scene, it doesn't make them better than anyone else, or give them the right to talk down to anyone. That's why I, and I suspect many others, don't like Kev, nothing to do with money.

Kev has done so so so very much in his lifetime, and when he is belittled, he, like me, retaliates.

I also have no respect or patience with those people who jump on a soapbox to criticise, when all they have done is buy a few records, or been a DJ at a local night somewhere, yet claim they know more or are somehow more worthy than those who have given a lifetime of service to the music they love.

I think Ian, you need to realise that when you participate on a forum, where debate is encouraged, you need to be able to accept critisism without hating the person who critisises. You need to understand the rules of the forum you are taking part in, and realise that emails like this in response to posts are against forum rules. They damage the community and undermine the foundations of what makes this place so special.

Shocking behaviour and language . You obviously never got to know Ady very well otherwise you would know that he has no reason to lie, and isnt the sort of person that would lie anyway. I think you need to have a harder think back and realise that you may be remembering things incorrectly, or may have imagined that a committee existed, to try and explain the London scene to yourself. Its all irrelevant now and to hold onto the story you have manufactured for yourself is only going to hurt you, no-one else. Perhaps just agree to disagree and with a modicum of humility perhaps admit you might sometimes be wrong. IMO Ady has no agenda, he just doesn't want history to be rewritten.

I'm only registered to a handful of german and international discussion forums (most of them not northern soul related) but they all got one thing in common: immediate ban for a member posting private messages on the board. James, if I was a admin I'd ban you for at least a week NOW!

Thats sh-te. If someone is threatened as the result of a thread, its an issue for the site and the person sending threats should be banned. So, keep your German system and sensibilities mate. If there was NO consequensce to private threats as a result of on site debate, there would be no on site debat.e only a threatening dictatorship....sound familiar mate?

A Magician worked on a cruise ship. The audience was different each week so the magician did the same tricks over and over again.

There was only one problem: the captain's parrot saw the shows each week and began to understand how the magician did every trick. Once he understood, he started shouting in the middle of the show, 'Look, it's not the same hat!' or 'Look, he's hiding the flowers under the table!' or 'Hey, why are all the cards the ace of spades?'

The magician was furious but couldn't do anything. It was, after all, the captain's parrot.

Then one stormy night on the Pacific, the ship unfortunately sank, drowning almost all who were on board. The magician luckily found himself on a piece of wood floating in the middle of the sea with, as fate would have it, the parrot.

They stared at each other with hatred but did not utter a word. This went on for a day... and then 2 days... and then 3 days.

Finally on The 4th day, the parrot could hold back no longer and said......

he certainly had an ear for some great tunes, and although widely accepted today as a truly fantastic sounding record, maybe a tadd slow for 72, amongst all the stompers

It was 1973 when first i it played, but still lots of stompers around at the time.

The first time i heard it at the Highroom Room i loved it, and still is my no.1 all time fav.
