It was documented on here some time ago that the writers/producers at Fee made "Sad girl" purposely to appeal to the Northern market after they had demand for a re-press of Flaming Emeralds. That makes it a tailor-made in my book, altho' I agree it is a wonderful record however it came into being!

According to Steve G the above Carol Anderson info is wrong.Altho, FE was '77 and CA '79 so it could have been released to appeal to NS fans.Probably more sold here than in the US! However, I think copies are/were plentiful, back in the day, and I recon the ammount was in the 1,000's. Certainly not hard to come by back then, but as copies have been absorbed into collections, not so easy now, but if you wanted one I dare say a 'want' on here would find one in less than a week!

Many on here have had some nasty run ins on line, but I think (almost) all respect each other out in the clubs? I think there is an amazing companionship amongst those who travel, make sacrifices, put themselves out to be a part of something special. Even if opinions differ, sometimes dramatically. From my personal experience I know I've had some pretty cutting critics of what I do, young Chrissie for example, but do I respect them any less, or offer to introduce them to my very big and very hard friends? No, of course not. That's just silly, like really, just daft. It would belittle and ignore what makes this "thing" we're into so unique, exciting to be a part of, an amazing vessel for celebrating this music, and quite plainly just pretty fucking cool.

Personally speaking, I probably respect folk more for speaking their mind honestly, after all, DJs are up there putting their neck on the chopping block by their own choice, they should expect critisism as well as praise from folk who make sacrifices to be at parties and support.

I clearly said my comments are directly and only relating to the whole 'never mind what i'm saying or why i'm here, look at my hits, 3 million and counting, what an achievment...' carry on. I'm pointing out the car crash and the rubber necking. Mr Levine should stop talking about himself, in my opinion, and contribute to the site as a whole, and not just on this thread, as he surely has plenty to offer. But he has said this is the only place he will post, on his own thread. Me, me, me, me and my mate me. That's the only thing that has got my back up, his attitude towards this great site and the way he is using it. If we all only posted on our own threads this site would be dead.

But that's besides the point, really, because when all is said and done, he's called it on and it's clearly a stunt to get everyone to watch his videos and 'achieve' 4 million hits on them or to sell a few more CDs and DVDs. I think that's obvious.

Oh, by the way, do folk realise that every time a page on here is refreshed or openned it generates a hit on every youtube video on this page, several times on one video if it has been quoted a few times, even without a click through. Worth thinking about when Mr Levine starts boasting about 4 million hits, as every hit on this page could easily give 15-20 total hits towards 'Levine click throughs'. 10k of hits here, that's getting on for a quarter of a million Levine bonus points, without a single person clicking on a video. Scary If I'm right and this is his plan he'll be posting new videos at the start of every new page and this is the real reason he is not posting on any other thread...

Or am I being too sceptical?

Btw what do you think of the new improved Levine Model 225, i think it's a big improvement on the previous 224, this model comes complete with a new improved humility device, still needs the disco & self promotion knobs adjusted slightly though.

It's Ebony Alleyne, with a HUGE orchestra behind her paid for by Sony. £150,000 spent on recording her stuff, which is the only way to make a real record full of proper live instruments without it sounding cheap and closed and small like Sharon Jones. Or without Soul Source members complaining about it being computerised, which was hysterical with some songs, which DID have live orchestras becasue they were taken off previous versions.

But the Ebony album is the most expensive stuff I ever got to produce in my life.

Hi Barry. Nice to chat with you. I am on the whole quite enjoying this thread. I have purposely refrained from posting in other threads on Soul Source, because if I did, I might get involved in unnecessary arguments or complaints of self promotion.

Whereas if I limited myself to only discussing my productions on a thread that is specifically called "Ian Levine", that no-one but no-one could complain that I was doing so, because anyone coming into this specific dedicated thread would know exactly what they were coming into, before clicking on it.

Hey, I found those kids in Chelmsford again, I gave em 4 quid and one of them put a stapple through his ear for each pound coin I gave him. He would have carried on going but it just felt so wrong, I couldn't give him any more. There was blood dripping from his ear and he was laughing away. It was gross, but so many people had gathered around to watch.

I'll see if I can find the clip of it, they recorded it and said they would post it today on youtube. I'm sure they'd enjoy a few thousand soul-source click throughs to encourage further self abuse...

I didn't like the way SWONS was done origianlly but can't deny that it was a great effort and it gave the artists some recognition, I do though look forward to the re-edited DVDS.

We haven't always seen eye to eye and I've no axe to grind, hopefully your contribution to Soul Source can be a positive one and we can share in your undoubted knowledge and experience, after all thats what some of us are here for, to continue learning about this music of ours.

I guess maybe coming on Soul Source did me some good in opening my eyes a bit. I naively thought everyone knew the Ebony album. Sony even pressed up three seven inches on the Okeh label, before dropping the project without releasing the album, and it took five years before it came out on Expansion. It had so much soul radio play and so many glowing reviews that I just assumed everyone knew it. I never had a chance in my whole career to work with such a big orchestra. Sixty strings, thirty horns, 110 tracks of live instruments which all had to be mixed down. We couldn't do that in the old days. Even for a very expensive project with two machines hooked up together, you were still limited to 48 tracks, and two of those used the timecode.

Sadly only two thousand. Loads of people watched her vids on YouTube, loads of people played it all over the world (one radio station in New York has played the whole album every day for a year now), but the sales were low for such an expensive project. At the end of the day it all boils down to promotion. If I sell two thousand of "Northern Soul 2008", then I'm happy, as I never expected it to have huge sales figures and we keep our costs right down to a minimum.

If Sony hadn't originally paid so much money to record Ebony's album, it would never have happened in the same way, as these days, unless you're Amy Winehouse, no-one but no-one could afford to spend that kind of budget on a record. This is why all the smaller labels have now gone out of business and we only have four majors left. The music business is screwed.
