Jill Bayles Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Hi Barry Long time no hear, bogged down wi maternal duties as usual. Hope all is ok in your world, as it is in mine. It's a long time since I've posted on this forum ( more of a lurker) but your thread put paid to that. Who knows, you may just have created a monster I'm still in touch wi Webby, he is indeed a teacher...you can just imagine the mayhem in his classes can't you?!!! A teacher of Sociology I do believe! I'd love to be a fly on the wall! The Web is settled in or near Dublin and has turned over a new leaf, packed in the tabs and almost everything else except the drink, which he never did but does now! So a reformed character he certainly is The man in question had a dalliance to these here shores in July and I caught up with him at Whitby Weekender. His dance moves ain't changed one bit, saw him from the far side of the Northern room and knew it was him straight away, even though me eyesight ain't what it used to be! He spent some time in Warrington with his family afterwards and his son got married recently so he was over for that. He pops over quite often in fact. I've been meaning to get over to visit but something always gets in the way. I missed his 50th last February so I've got some ground to make up, for sure. I'm hoping to get over with a mate for a weekend next year, if we can get kids farmed out for long enough The next time I text Phil I'll let him know you were asking after him. Bye for now, Jill
Jill Bayles Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Phil got in touch today, he said he was off to a soul night in Dublin so I passed on your regards Barry. He's not replied yet, will probably do that tomorrow, or maybe even later, when he's recovered...it must take it out of you, all that boogieing at his age

Jill Bayles Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I just rang him, yeah its the same daft git I was gonna say, it sounds very much like the man in question
Jill Bayles Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I was gonna say, it sounds very much like the man in question Oh yes and he is from Widnes
Jill Bayles Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Oh yes and he is from Widnes Err...don't know owt about the doorman bit (as he couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag) or the traffic warden bit (but there again he would keep that bit quiet wouldn't he)
wendy Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 (edited) He still smokes on the sly and in the recent past has alluded to taking a cheetah in a scrap with one hand tied behind his back. so he must be dead 'ard. Edited September 3, 2008 by wendy
stomper45 Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Err...don't know owt about the doorman bit (as he couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag) or the traffic warden bit (but there again he would keep that bit quiet wouldn't he) He's the worlds worst doorman Jill, 2 foot 3", turns up late, costs a fortune in drink then if he's not outside havin a sly one he's on the dancefloor doin the webb-boogie. Think he takes great pride in his TW uniform. Well he's always polishing his helmet according to most folk
wendy Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Phil just rang up to give out to me - he says he really doesn't smoke anymore - says he's told his mates that I am prone to making stuff up (!) and that he's back lecturing in a few weeks - I wish you could hear his explanation about victimless crimes, it involves chemists
Guest modernlass Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Jill I can't believe ur still in touch with phil, what a star he was at Bradford, I too would like to be a fly on the wall when he is teaching. Last time we saw Phil, we gave him a lift home to widnes and he invited us in to his mums, he was wasted and could not believe how his mum accepted his behaviour as normal ( what a laugh we had with him ) Do us a favor jill, if you do speak to him tell him sue and les from chester said hello, and he is deeply engraved in our memories. Thanks sue Jill do you know pete from helsby?
Guest geordiebri Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 (edited) A very funny man, who loved to go for it. One of the many STARS of Bradford always used to take the piss out of my accent asking me to talk slower. Jill remember the trip from hell when he was driving the Minibus to Bradford? lets just say he was fully fuelled! & his para trip the night we went to Hardwick Hall? Anyone remember the mad bird he lived with in Warrington who posted his goldfish through the letterbox?
Guest modernlass Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Yeh I remember, he came into nighter totally off it, rambling about his goldfish, could not stop laughing all night - he was really upset about them. What a star he was - actually if we all posted our memories about him it would make a great book - if he is a teacher maybe we could get him to write it - what a funny read it would make!

They are still buddies, after all this time. She's mellowed with age...still a good laugh and very nice with it. Jill remember the trip from hell when he was driving the Minibus to Bradford? lets just say he was fully fuelled! & his para trip the night we went to Hardwick Hall? Funny but I only seem to remember the drive home...on two wheels as I recall Now why do I remember bein on the back roads from Scotch Corner instead of A1/A66 The Hardwick Hall episode was a nightmare...don't think I was there, just provided the taxi service...but I remember the para trip and trying to calm him down...I recall bundlin him off to kip and mutterin "Right that's it, never again" and me poor heed bein battered before and after, even though I'd never even been out socialisin...summat about theft is comin to mind...now what did he ever have that was worth pilferin I ask ...well only one thing and that will have been long gone by the time it came to Hardwick Hall trip but would have been reason for said paranoia I verily believe

I would be grateful if you send our regards to phil from sue and les from chester, tell him we always talk about him and his antics from the old days. Yes, I also remember him dancing in no shoes and socks and water being everwhere - that was another night I nearly wet myself with laughing at phils antics - and I agree not sure were the water came from as it seemed far too much to be sweat. I also know kim, last seen her at morcambe a couple of weeks ago - love her to bits another star from bradford. Have you been out lately and do you still see pete? Spk to you soon Jill ( can't believe you know pete and you went to bradford what a small soulful world we live in) xxx Sue

As for the record cover ramblings are you sure he didn't pen them whilst driving said van well that would account for his unacceptably low driving standards eh I'll pass on my regards in a text right now mate Hi Jill How can i forget meeting Phil at Sleepless nights in Dublin Me and Jo arrived at the free warm up night and Phil sat down next to Jo . He introduced himself and asked where Jo was from, could'nt believe we were from Darlo and told us what a small world it was,i;e ,he once lived in Darlo and had a daughter etc etc. Anyway next day when we arrived at the showpiece alldayer ,without warning, Phil spotted us and jumped on me ,giving me a bear hug ,like a long lost friend Like i said we'd never met before From then on we were inseperable for the rest of our stay. Phil was ever so helpful ,he sorted out best place to drink and sunday dinner location . I remember most of all when i came out in a terrible rash ,understatement ,i was covered in what looked like a bad case of hives.I was a bit worried to say the least .Phil saw me and asked what was wrong with me?I showed him my embarrassing problem and he did a "on the spot" diagnosis...."you've been taking too much gear" he said! Strange i thought ,i havent had any bloody gear???? Turns out i have an allergy to aspirin and had taken some anadain extra and alka seltzers to put me right after the night before. Both these products contain aspirin so i now never use em and havent had symptoms since I exchanged mobile numbers with Phil and would get some strange texts over the coming weeks ,quite random times i might add. He sent one asking me which was my 1st ever record purchase...after much deliberation i said "My coo ca choo" Alvin Stardust. Phil replied "yeah ,most people say some f**kin big northern tune"lying bas***ds Anyway suffice to say ,a real genuine guy with a big heart ,a true charachter! Get yourselves over to Dublin for a memorable soul fest,on eof the best places i've ever had the pleasure of visiting in the last ten years, amazing people and top top soul!

Jill Bayles Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Hi Jill I actually do remember you from bradford days from your picture. What picture?
Guest Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Parakeets...or love birds...never gerbils m'dear I remember the birds got gassed or summat one night when we were out at Wigan...got back and they were twitterin no more...think they got accidentally left on some appliance...perhaps boiler...what a downer that was There was no flat, only a house in Padgate...I remember you cutting someone's hair there...was it Derek Mead, another of your exes and didn't I stop going to Wigan as I had better things to do with my time like sleep and keep Mel company can't remember the topics, never saw Phil eat anything much And why am I getting blamed for your dalliance with Webby when that came years after and I wasn't even there when you got together? You are always quick off the mark when it comes to the opposite sex...its all well under way before I even know about it so there's absolutely no time for match-making on my part ITS ALL PHIL'S FAULT...he introduced us both to the Southern lot as I recall Hmm if you stop listing my ex's, I'll stop blamin you for everything - so far they sound quite respectable, however the list may get embarrassing.........also, phil has informed me they were not topics, they were TOFFEE CRISPS!!! and for ME-cos he neva ate much......
Joyandpain Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Yeah mate we're still in touch...got Nev n Jo to thank for that after they went over to Dublin for a soul weekend and met Phil...well they would wouldn't they as he gets where s____e wouldn't we exchanged numbers and the rest as they say is history...we been textin each other tonight and he already knew "harry" had put a post up... he was askin if it was you...do you remember when he DJ'd at the Dolphin Centre and f____ed it up ie playin wrong sides of records and not puttin the needle on the records...class Webby will be at the Blackpool Weekender in November if that's any good to you mate...he still gets to Darlo to visit his daughter Hannah...so I'll get him to let me know when his next visit will be and I'll bob him down to Joe's As for the record cover ramblings are you sure he didn't pen them whilst driving said van well that would account for his unacceptably low driving standards eh I'll pass on my regards in a text right now mate JILL CAN YOU LET WEBBY WILL BE AT BLACKPOOL IN NOVEMBER
Guest Modern Skip Tone Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 JILL CAN YOU LET WEBBY WILL BE AT BLACKPOOL IN NOVEMBER What can you say about Webby, he used to go grazy downstairs on that concrete red coloured floor painted dancefloor. With or without footwear. I remember the night he dropped 2 x phase fours, christ he was mashed and his head left this body. One hour later, during the bodyrush period, I had to piggy back him out of the Queens hall, up all them wet steps. I told him to "feel it don't fight it". Some young lad from Warrington had a vauxhall chevette, so we placed Webby in a blanket and drove him around west Bradford. . Later we returned with Phil and left him in the toilets under Yvonne's and Jackies care. . He us to write love letters to my girlfriend, now my wife regularly during those Big Easy days. I still have somewhere a photo of Webby on the cover of Barry's playlist sheet which accompanied the downstairs events, entitled Bradfords little darling - Phil Webb. Would that be Kim from Keighley ??????? Thanks. . Nick.
Jill Bayles Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 JILL CAN YOU LET WEBBY WILL BE AT BLACKPOOL IN NOVEMBER Yes I will do...he's not texting me at the minute...sometimes he disappears and other times he's texting non-stop...think the flurry of texts coincides with lots of I'll text Webby so he knows you'll be there...oh and don't you be leading him astray that weekend as he's a reformed character...with good reason...I'll PM you about it so you know the score

You've always associated Webby with topics...never seen him eat one of those ever...but I have seen him scoff many a toffee crisp and in later years proper food

Christ its Nick of Nick and Andrea...I remember you on that dancefloor...always gave it 110%...I remember that night when Phil was temporarily incapacitated but I don't think I knew about it til after he'd re-appeared and pulled himself round a bit...as for Yvonne and Jacqui well I was usually responsible for babysitting/childminding them Yeah Kim from Keighley but a different Kim who killed Phil's fish...yukked bleach in the tank if my memory serves me correctly...hell hath no fury like a woman scorned Do you remember Phil's catchphrase...."UP THERE AND OUT OF IT" complete with hand and arm movements ie UP THERE POINT HANDS AND ARMS UPWARDS OUT OF IT POINT HANDS AND ARMS SIDEWARDS...I'd forgotten all about it til Saturday when he sent me a text of it...I was bad laughin I was at a wedding last Friday with Kim and her fella Stuie Butcher...pair of nutters together but nice with it if you know what I mean It was nice to see them again as it's been too long since the last time. Hope to see you both out and about sometime
