I usually sell The Astors - In the twilight zone / Mystery woman - Stax, for about 40 quid but I've searched the net and I can't find one for sale, so now that Mystery Woman is getting played as well - what do we reckon, about 60?

What about this one, I've never even heard of it but it's more R&B than Northern, The Soul Shakers - I'm Pressing On - Teem 1009. Don't know if it's the same group as on Loma, no indication as to where the label is from.

Pete I paid 80 quid for the Soul Shakers am passing on about 3 years ago after a mate recomended it he paid 120 for his copy, tried selling on here about 6 months ago and the best offer I got was 50 quid if thats any help I didnt let it go for that and still have it

The Teem group is the same group as loma, if I remember correctly, there are common names on the record... but there's also no vocal harmony somehow, strange.

75 not bad! My copy seems to be a mis-press, because that "Mistery Woman" on my copy is total rubbish and far far away from a great track (IMO) but "Twilight Zone" is an absolute northern stomper without a doubt and one good side per single is enough.

i'm pretty sure the teem group is just huey smith and the clowns recording under one of their many aliases and has absolutely nothing to do with the soul shakers on loma. i'm open to being schooled, though. but teem is definitely a new orleans label, and that's a new orleans recording.

that would make sense given that there's no vocal group on it, wouldn't it? I will pull it out tonight and check. They are listed together in the soul harmony singles book (and the Triangle record is listed separately even though that is a len jewell smith production so it is the same group), I will check the names myself on the teem record.

I think that too, sounds not like the Loma group, just hear the record it sounds 100% like a Nola recording

Probably it's Huey Smith & The Clowns indeed on this Ace subsidiary (given also the Smith writer credit). Vocals sound like they could be by Pearl Edwards and Curley Moore who both sang with The Clowns.

I think the common name between the two would be "Smith". Hardly convincing evidence, particularly when you realize that Len Jewel Smith and Huey Piano Smith have completely different first and middle names. Unless of course you mean that Smith is a common name, which it most certainly is, even in this culturally diverse country we live in. I bet there are even one or two in the Chicago phone book.

I'm pretty sure those are the two Smith names I've ever heard of in my entire life.

Thanks for the info, I was agreeing that there was only one guy singing and was just saying that it was listed together in the soul harmony singles book. The Triangle record does say Leonard Jewell Smith on it, by the way.
