Guest mel brat Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 (edited) Are we doing a good enough job "promoting Soul Music to the younger generation", d'ya think? Following comments from You Tube; If You Think You're Lonely Now - Bobby Womack i been listening 2 k-ci & jojo's stuff as well, I didnt know they copyed some dude, i know 1 of K-Ci's solo songs (women's gotta have it) is by this guy. i love dis song so much.....mariah carey even love it cuz she used it n her song...it iz so deep Bobby Womack - Across 110th Street Womack was awesome, with that gritty voice. I wonder what became of him? this song is from American gangster and the best song in entire movie Across 110th Street was groundbreaking blaxploitation movie made in 1972; the movie's critically-praised title song, by Bobby Womack, was a #19 hit on the Billboard Top Black Singles chart in 1973, and was later featured in Quentin Tarantino's 1997 blaxploitation homage Jackie Brown. It is also heard in Ridley Scott's 2007 American Gangster. Hope this clarifies matters. Sorry if i sound ignorant i'm just young. What's the "Billboard Top Black Singles chart"? Michael Henderson - In The Summertime i love this!!! Doesn't he have a brother named tito and jermaine? Leon Ware - Why I Came To California So this is the song Dr Dre sampled for Firm Bizz with Dawn Robinson as the vocalist Love Unlimited - Walking In The Rain With The One I Love wow so this is were 9th Wonder sampled it from.... this was also sampled by Fat Jon from Five Deez Heard it in a Ice t song Delfonics - Ready Or Not Here I Come i did not know the fugees used the hook for their song and that missy (elliot) used this beat... Diggin' Dave Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 (edited) Don't think there's any need to promote the music to the younger generation too much. The ones that need the soul in their life will find out about this music sooner or later. In fact they're discovering this music as we speak through channels like youtube and other channels. The thing I hate sometimes is when a hip-hop dude comes to check out some records and he's like: they covered Dr. Dre! or things like that. Sometimes you can't even explain them that it's impossible that a group from '73 'covered Dr. Dre'. I don't think these are the ones that'll be the ones carrying on the legacy of northern soul Edited August 18, 2008 by DiggersGold
