Guest Paul Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Sad news confirmed that Jerry Wexler died today, aged 91.
Sean Hampsey Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Very sorry to hear that Paul. The man who first coined the term "Rhythm & Blues". Was only watching him a couple of nights ago on the Re-Run of the TV Series "Soul Deep". A Major contributor to our music, with Atlantic Records, Aretha and his contribution to Muscle Shoals. Wad a man! Must have been in his 90's, I guess. R I P Sean
Garethx Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 RIP Jerry Wexler: a hugely influential figure in our music. He had a good innings though.
Guest Juddy Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Must have been in his 90's, I guess. I believe the obit on the radio just now said 91 - not too shabby!
Guest Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I met Jerry once at The Apollo Theater. I was playing in the pit for a show called "Miss Truth" and he came to see the show and meet the cast and band. I had a quick crush on his daughter (Anita) too. She was an A & R person at a label I can't recall and she liked one of my records but turned it down eventually. Jerry was a pioneer for sure.

Ady Croasdell Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Commiserations to all who knew Jerry, a true innovator. Especially to our own Adam Torel was close to him and confirmed what a genuine guy Jerry was.
