Try and find the pic I sent up of Andy Rix's Shrine record, broken into several pieces when it was the only known copy to exist! Sent in a jiffy bag without any cardboard to protect it.

Guest mel brat Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 ...anyone had any biggies break ?? Only the "absolutely mint copy of the Glories 'I Worship You Baby' in original Date bag that arrived in three pieces" - but I've openly wept about that on here several times before!

THAT HURT. when i was a kid in circa 1977, i used to take my then favourite record, international gto's "i love my baby" to the youth clubs for d.j. to play. one day at home my mum walked into my room and trod on it! i couldnt replace it then, i was heartbroken! has anyone had a "warped" heat damaged record they've tried to iron straight?! i'm smilling now just thinking about it!
Lenny Harkins Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 my postman folded a copy of the clovers -try my loving, he said it wouldnt go in the letter box!
Mark W Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 my postman folded a copy of the clovers -try my loving, he said it wouldnt go in the letter box! You forgetting about another one Lenny? What about the time you got out your motor, put the copy of Pat Lewis "Look at what.." that had been bought the night before onto the driver seat, said bye to us then jumped back in the motor right on top of it Sorry to cast up painfull memories
Mark W Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 1990 I bought a collection and done a lot of sell/trade/buying with it. Done a deal with Pat Brady and got Delites "Lover" for cash and trades valuing at £500. I still lived with my folks at the time, my old man worked shifts and always signed for any post when the rest of us were at work. So I told him I had a big record coming and to be sure to be careful, keep the package away from radiators and the dog, etc. That arrived, no problems and into my "good" box it went. Now this "good" box was a new one my brother, a joiner, had made for me. It was a single row for 7" with a bit of space under the lid which can have a few laid horizontally. The new "good" box was complete but had not had the handle screwed onto the lid. As mentioned earlier my old man worked shifts which meant he was often pottering about the house for things to do during the day. A couple of days after my Delites had arrived I was working near home and popped back for my dinner. The old man was sitting in the house looking fucking grey! "Whats up with you, look like you've seen a ghost?" I ask him. "Err, I've made a massive balls up, I'm so sorry I don't know what to say, your gonna go bloody mental about this. I thought I'd put the handle on that box your brother made but a screw went right through the wood and cracked the record that was lying flat on the top of the pile." I just started pissing myself laughing as I realised what he was thinking. Turns out my old man had done his "little job on the record box" and assumed that the one lying on top of the pile was my newest arrival! This was first thing in the morning and he'd been sweating for hours about it . It was actually the Four Exceptions "You got the power" which was a shame to lose, but not a problem in the scale of things.

Guest KEN-SOUL Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 big thanks to whoever included jerry fuller-turn to me. what a classic!
paultp Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 I bought a mint Billy Kennedy off Pat Brady a few years ago, I'd seen it at Cleethorpes and rang him a few days afterwards about it. When it turned up the package had a great big boot mark on it and was flattened in one area. When I opened it up, the record had been crushed at one edge in a semi-circle about the size of a 10p piece, so that there were a load of little cracks going into the record. It still plays thankfully (both sides) but the post office would only give me 175 back of the 200 I paid because I wanted to keep the record. I'd still rather have a mint one though
Spacehopper Posted September 5, 2008 Author Posted September 5, 2008 would you believe it !...in twenty years of getting tunes through the post without a prob ive now had my second break in a month !!!.....this time it was the sunlovers/never make the grade a near mint original...the corner of the packaging was creased and as i pulled the record out of the sleeve i had a little crescent shaped bit in my hands....NOOOOOO !!!.....books at about 100/150 luckily i only payed 35 which i should get back but gutted again.... starting to get paronoid thinkin i have an enemy in the bristol sorting office.....or maybe its just a crazy cd nut who hates vinyl thing is the day before i had 2 common cheapies (back st/edwin and new girl/accents) arrive fine...bloody typical and despite gettin tunes from all over the globe both breakages were from the uk...maybe uk sellers should start useing the boxes like overseas sellers instead of the card envelopes ?? sickening when you look at a tune thats been kept in such good nick for over forty years to be broken by some useless c*** not doin his job right....was obvious what was inside and just in case they were really thick it also had a 'fragile please be careful 'sticker on it....
