kimbo Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Got it thanks. I can't believe no one except you, Malc has replied. Obviously you all did this type of stuff. But I did feel it would be of some interest for people to have made a few comments. Is it just boring then? if so there is no point in writing the book....... DOES ANYONE FIND IT INTERESTING???? Crikey, we all did things that no ordinary people would ever even dream of. If you would rather not say on forum, please PM me. I have absolutely have got to know is it interesting or not. IT'S VITAL. The young lady who was going to help type it is busy crying herself to sleep cos her boyfriend finished with her (that's what she says) She probably never read it. (I don't know, not really) Love Swish Hi Swish, go for for it fella. Reg on here recently pubished his life/soul love sort of autobiogrphy, maybe a chat with him could throw a few pointers, he is a real nice guy. I would buy your book . I started going in 73-4 to the howard mallet club in Cambridge,(live in Northants) so your experience was still common, and lets be honest if you go under the surface I it still is. The scene is like everyday life, some cross to the dark side some don't. But in the words of that old classic, I may live on the main street but the backstreet is where I belong. Your story will be true to the scene at that time in your life. If people on this forum can moan that a film is being made that aint gonna reflect and portray how it was, Then they should read the real deal of your exploits, sod Paul friggin Wella and co just to sell the film Respect man, Kimbo

Swish my friend you were up there with those words. Respect kimbo." I missed those words first time around. I see them now. You are quite extraordinary. You feel it like I feel it. Everything you say is STRONG and full of passion. You feel it very DEEP same as me. I also went to Howard Mallet around 1973/74 but i have to admit it's all a little vague now. We may have met before, for all we know. I knew Skip and his gorgeous sister Stephanie and Sean Burke, all from Norwich. I think Skip died but I don't know for sure. Getting very emotional now. I've got to leave it. Love all Swish

Guest Swish Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I'm no poetry expert, but that was absolutely brilliant in my opinion. It sort of makes you see it all in slow motion in a dreamlike state. I haven't experienced all of that, but the visuals were extremely vivid with every line I read. I can't relate to any of the drug references, but I can fully relate to being in the moment, lost in the music, soaking up every little bit of it while it's happening, and feeling that special feeling the music gives you. It's a spiritual high that you chase once you're hooked as a soul fan. It makes you do crazy things "go to great lengths, spend money, make sacrifices, etc. I've never been to any soul event outside of the US and even I can relate. Apart from where you were, where you went or any of that-it's the music. The music is at the very core of it all. It has something magical about it that can't be denied. Without it...no NS, no SS, no poem or anything! It doesn't matter what age you are or where you are in the World or what language you speak. The music hits you, something clicks inside your brain...and that's it-you're hooked. And you're right...outsiders will never understand no matter how hard they try. That guy Swish has talent and passion "so much that he needed to put it to poetry. That says a lot. -Jas jazzyass I just re-read your letter. It''s absolutely full of soul. As you say you never knew "our scene" as it was. You never knew the drugs or anything really, you never had to risk getting rolled by the rollers or busted by the DS, you never had to learn (ultra fast) if you were getting sold an original record or a fake. You never knew it was a dangerous and exciting life. You see there's so much more to it than you can ever imagine. If it was not for all we risked and dared to do none of it would exist. ALL those records would just have rotted in warehouses or thrown away. Nevertheless your letter is FULL OF SOUL, Total respect lad, Swish

Guest stevejan Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Hello Swish here! My son told me about this thread. Thank you all very much for all your kind words. I was extremely moved by what you all said. I wrote a lot of poems about nighters, but lots were lost when I got divorced. I still have some though. If anyone would like to read them I shall print them on here. Meanwhile I would like to say that although I don't go to soul do's anymore (I play Texas hold 'em poker instead), I still cherish all the times I had and all the friends and the music of course. I still listen to Northern all the time at home, Luv to all Swish Hi Swish Hope you are well....had some laughs together over the years..PM me sometime. Steve Grimshaw PS you could talk some bloody crap as well...LOL
Guest aintgotit Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Andy You mean 1st November? Yeah? Nice of Kev to say that. Meanwhile I have had a a fall out with girl who was going to type my book. Is there any other lady who can type fast and would like to be rich? No man should ever publish a book until he has first read it to a woman -- Van Wyck Brooksmy lady has written four novels, and is an excellent proof reader, i,ll pass on your request and see if she is willing to provide her services.. pm me for email and phone numver While I am at it look at these 2 super quotes Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of joy, you must have somebody to divide it with. --Mark Twain And: If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing. -- Benjamin Franklin Right I ain't asking for much. I need a woman who understands or understood the scene. Who is a good typist. Could offer comment on when I have under or over dramatised a certain event. Could decide when the swearing is relevant or needless. Can proof read. Could type from old typewriter pages and put it all on PC. Could type directly from my vocal dictation, or from a dictaphone. Can play poker or would not mind learning how to play. In return I shall split all profits 50/50 (contract drawn up if you wish). You can e-mail me or PM me. If there is anyone, I can meet you anywhere, any place at anytime. Big chance to be rich and be partners in a very powerful book, Oh and single. Love Swish
