Frequently, people ask me to suggest soul cd's for them after hearing music at my house for example....obviously, I realise that it is a matter of opinion which is why I am asking for different ones! I have had cds/tapes done for quite a few folk based on what kind of thing they said they liked when i have played them.. Some have liked the fast northern stuff and others the more bluesy RnB OR funk/soul.. Maybe a comp that you got from mates with a combination of all would do the trick.. Hi Karen, If you have an address you can pm me, I'd be happy to send you over copies of the stuff I got given that got me into it, ruined my life and nearly bankrupted me.. sorry... that should probably say the tunes I fell in love with shouldn't it.. ..I've got hundreds of millions of cd's folks have given me that would be suitable. Its effect on me and my friends was devastating. When I see the tracklisting today I realise that it's 100% solid northern soul oldies, but neither me nor my friends had EVER heard ANY of these tunes prior to hearing the three CDs in this box-set. It was an amazing experience and probably the single most important factor that got me into the rarer end of soul music. I still think it's a fantastic tracklisting and I love almost all of these 36 tunes. I would reccomend it to anyone who's interested in finding out about northern soul. Check it out: 01. It won`t do much for your bank balance, but your soul will be so much purer for getting the real thing instead of some digitalised, sanitised and soul-less replica of what the real music (and the real artists) were all about. Oh dear I think I must have offended at least 50% of the current rare Soul scene with this email. Didn`t mean to have a go at you personally Karen, but this is one of my dyed-in-the-wool old fashioned Casino opinions. Good hunting (for vinyl of course!) Id agree with this, the Millionaires Vol 1 to 3 are excellent, But also add that a good CD for new converts as a source of oldies and some new(ish) some rare and some cheap tracks (allbiet circa 1995) is Northern Soul Time - Goldmine. Its good value as its a two disk set with 60 tracks on it and sleeve notes explaining the label and artist - so the importance of vinyl is apparent! It kinda covers all bases without getting ultra cheezy, has some nice tracks as well as some fun classics. she will soon out-grow it but its good for igniting that flame! Casinoboy x So by not buying something that will actually put money in the artists pockets, these artists that you profess to love so much, you are purifying your soul! Hmm another opinion worthy of the loony bin, I would suggest the real artists were all about earning some money for their art!! How about you keep buying vinyl and also buy these wonderful Kent and Soulscape CD's and pay the artists back for their hard work, maybe a bit radical but............ Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted August 21, 2008 Share Posted August 21, 2008 Well i would say DJ's guide to Soul allnighter has been released by DMC it has 28 tracks on each side so that's 56 songs for starters and has a nice mixture £20 but you can only buy it from DJ shops or such online places that deal with these type CD's. For us it has the obvious stuff like The Snake, I Get The Sweetest Feeling, Under My Thumb, 123, There's a Ghost In My House, Love On a Moutain Top and so on but there is some interesting choices like Why When Love Is Gone, If I Could Only Be Sure, Two Can Have a Party (Tammi's solo version), Soul Time, Am I The Same Girl, You've Been Cheating, Light My Fire (Stevue Wonder) and for some reason Mr Big Stuff only downside is for some reason Dobie Gray - The In Crowd is re-recorded version yet Out on the floor is original and 2 other re-recordings which are Barefooting, Be Young Be Foolish Be Happy Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...

In particular i made sure he put the falcons on there, I'm a fool. Stood in hot waxx records in warrington!!. Which i am quite proud of, as back then i couldn't decide what day it was !! Why don't 10 of us ss's make a c.d of what we consider a good starter pack. Then perhaps put 4 or 5 more obscurer tracks at the end of said c.d.(rnb...northern....mod...modern...soulful garage..latin...etc) to give a TRUE opinion of sound/s. I'm up for it..anyone else?
