Every time I read crud like this, I log onto my YouTube page, see my counter on my account page telling myself I have had three million hits, and I can confidently reassure myself that out of all the Soul Source members, those twenty or so who hate me, are way way way outnumbered by millions of people to whom I have actually brought some musical pleasure, people who appreciate me, and people whose lives have been brightened by being able to see their heroes perform and also enjoy NEW music that sounds like Northern Soul.

Here you are dear - a treat especially for you. You'll HATE it.

A film is being set in an era of Wigan in 1974.

You are dictating what the music should be.

The biggest 1974 record in Wigan was The Javells "Goodbye Nothing To Say". I went every week. I know. I was there. Colin Curtis did the last two hours at the Mecca every week so that les Cokell and I could go to Wigan.

Yes Ian Javells(Nosmo King) was a big record in 74, but you there every week, i think not.

After you did your D J set about Nov 73 at the Casino(Ten miles high etc played 1st time at Wigan).

You very seldom was there, Les Cokell still went alot.

Your adds in Blues & Soul for the Mecca showed what you thought of Wigan.

I,m not a Wigan fan trying to put you down, cause i,ve said on here lots of time the Mecca was light years ahead of the Casino.

By the way i still see Colin at least once a mouth.

Dave.

I have sat by and watched this fiasco for long enough.

It's like a parent whose children have degenerated into schoolyard bullies.

The last time I was a member of Soul Source was in December 2000, on the original Soul Source Talk, from which I was banned.

After nearly eight years, I have asked Mike Hughes to let me post on here, because as one of the pioneers of your "scene" it makes me sick to my stomach how a few fascists have become what are basically internet trolls and tarred all the others with the same brush.

Back on the Mary Fox show, I was unfair to many Soul Source members. Most are kind and caring people who love their music.

It's those few I see - Tomangoes, Pikey's Dog, Steve Guarnori, Mark Bicknell, Jumping Joan, Black And White, etc etc etc, who are so possessive of their unique scene of rare records and soul collectors, that they deny the music any chance to exist in another thirty years.

I have spent a lifetime fighting this sort of anarchy, and believe me it has taken a lot to make me come on here and post.

Some of you on this thread should be ashamed of yourselves.

No-one is expecting to have The Javells in the film, but this dictatorial insistence on only purist original sounds is bordering on the fascist ideals of 1930s germany.

Dave Godin would turn in his grave.

I am ashamed of some of you.

And now I am here to not let you get away with your closed minded strangulation of a beautiful music form. You won't be happy till you're all seventy and dancing in your zimmer frames to Arthur Willis and The Soulful Dynamics.

I have had THREE MILLION views of my videos on YouTube.

THREE MILLION.

Much as you will all hate to admit it, people who loved Northern Soul still love "Out On The Floor", "I'm On My Way", and "Do I Love You".

Who are you to say they shouldn't ????

It's the tiny tiny few ruining it for all the rest.

Outside of the tiny purist clubs with Soul Sam and Mark Bicknell, the rest of the Northern Soul Scene, you know - the bigger wider picture - made Sidney Barnes "Standing On Solid Ground" into the absolute biggest floorfiller of the last few years. But you won't even accept that fact. Because it wasn't made in 1969 and only one hundred copies pressed and Soul Sam paid a thousand quid for it.

It's just hypocrisy.

Your treatment of this film is hypocrisy.

There are two films being made using a backdrop of Northern Soul. It's the best thing that could happen to the music. It might bring in a huge influx of people and damage your little rare club forever, and let music breathe again and be made anew. Lets hear songs with a Motown beat and a great melody again.

I live for it and I pray for it.

WELCOME BACK IAN LEVINE :P

The film has nothing to do with me and if Keb Darge is involved, clearly never will.

But yet I still defend its right to make Northern Soul popular again. It's what I've strived for all my life - breaking free from the purists and given a crowd who can appreciate it.

That's why the Sidney Barnes record was such an eye opener. They ignored it at first. Did you know Andy Dyson was there in the studio when I wrote it ??? Soul Sam and Bicknell will just NEVER get the point of it, so I've given up caring. His last page in Manifesto displayed a musical ignorance that made me literally cry laughing.

I tend to agree with a deal of what you say re treatment of this film on here, but I must state a couple of reservations:

Firstly Pikey's Dog hasn't, as far as I've seen, been judgemental of the film in a negative way. Others in your list, yes.. but you must realise that some of them are untouchable, and your criticism of them by name can only result in censorship and likely closure of this thread. And what's with the fascism remarks? It's not a Marxist/Leninist commune, you know.. well, apart from freebasing sometimes.

Secondly, what is your point about your youtube hits? Are they linked to the film?

Oh, also why is it necessary to camp it up so much in your subsequent posts? You are only living up to your oft-portrayed SS charicature.. plus it might lead to Simon White showing up. :P

You got all your facts wrong.

I went every week from September 1973 till mid 1976.

THEN we all fell out, initially over Russ banning Richard from playing Barbara Pennington. Up till that point we had all been friends. Russ offered me a monthly guest spot but Bill Pye, area manager of the Mecca, said if I did one more spot there, then I was fired from the Mecca, and I loved the Mecca too much to risk losing it.

That 45 was ok IMO - But your production with authentic things like Linda Griners "Goodbye cruel love" and "The Charades" in the early 90s was really dissapointing for me ! (I could go on !)

Blue Juice Ian now that was a crackin little film, with the gorgeous Sean Pertwee and Catherine Zeta Jones,Predominately a surfing movie, touched on the northern and the rave scenes briefly, both done very nicely IMO, especially the bit about the northern, where the character Josh Tambini (record producer) got slated for mixing the classics up as dodgy remixes especially the Ozzie sands track performed by the late great Edwin Starr playing Ozzie. When they locked Josh up in the northern nite in the local village til he got it into his head that the originals were indeed the best.

im new here but i think this is probably the greatest thread iv ever read in my life {and best forum},i can hardly wait to get out of bed in the morning to read it, frankly. The "production team "? came here advertising for extras and when we had the gall to discuss there production , admitedly sometimes in a sarcastic and suspicious manner ,the director came in with his statement of 'facts"and accused us of "outrageous" behaviour. Keb Darge, similarly came left a statement and went ,wich i found to be a shame as i thought i tried to ask him a question i thought was pertinant the film and kebs skills as a dancer .we dont want to slag them off , we want to talk to them but they dont stick around long enough for anyone to be able to do that

Sorry I missed your question to me, perhaps I should have cancelled my trip to the far east to wait for it.

I have just returned to the uk now, so please ask again.

Also the film crew have started filming under a tight schedule. I would tell them to stop until you have finished moaning, but I feel you might never stop.

Taking the piss for fun is ok by me, but I do worry why you and some others have such a chip on your shoulder ?
