BrianB
No word from the Ipsofacto campo then? Something tells me now that they've got exactly what they wanted out of this sight and it's members... we won't be hearing from them again. Anybody know what the film industry term is for being used? Did you not see the posts that said they would not be on for a while? Link to comment Social source share
macca
But didn't Keb say he was orientating them as regards to representative sounds from that year? I think 1974 was fab. One only has to listen to Pete Smith's Casino tapes from that period. The dross came later on, at least for me. Link to comment Social source share
Jellybean
Just had a call from my daughter Gemma, she and my son Daniel have been "on set today" at Kings Hall, and they are both really p***ed off, they have been there all day from 9.30am till 8.00pm and her words to me were, that they have done f**k all, she said its taken them an hour to film 10 seconds of the actors stretching in the middle of the dancefloor i mean ffs whats all that about eh! And they have also thrown paracetamols all over the floors in the corridors , and trashed the toilets with graffiti over the walls, saying "Wigan casino rules" etc....... They are expecting them to go again tomorrow morning, and to be there for 7.30am, but they have both decided not to go they said the film crew are all up the own arses and a load of arrogant twats. And they don't want to be a part of something thats going to make a mockery of the northern soul scene. Thank god! JB xx Link to comment Social source share
macca
To be fair, all the hanging around between takes is perfectly normal practice. Filming can be mind-numbingly boring. My nephew is an actor & he says it can be soul destroying (sic) at times. Arrogance & heads up rectums is another matter though. Guest Paul
Hello, I urge everyone to calm down and let them make their film. As I've said before, it isn't a historic documentary. It's a fictional story with a 'northern soul' subtext and some 'northern soul' music in the soundtrack. I would have thought most soul fans would welcome that. Guest Paul
Hello again, As he isn't a member of this forum, Ian Levine has asked me express how angry he feels about some of the narrow-minded postings in this thread. Some of the attitudes displayed here are damaging to the northern soul scene. The film producers should be welcomed for showing an interest in the music in the hope that it will result in greater exposure for the music. The music itself doesn't belong to northern soul fans; it belongs to the artists, writers and producers who made it. Surely they deserve any chance of greater exposure. Nobody has the right to deny them that opportunity. Best regards, Paul Mooney Link to comment Social source share

Best regards, Paul Mooney oh for gods sake how on earth can a bit of banter in this thread "damage" the n.soul scene. if people arnt members of this site and get other people to represent them to the masses ,as film chap did, thats there problem . no one is saying they own northern soul , some of us just want to dance to it , and have some fun. most people in this thread have wished them luck but its hard to "welcome" the gods when all they do is post statements like this from above . id love to hear northen soul played everywhere Edited March 23, 2010 by becchio Link to comment Social source share

Surely they deserve a chance of greater exposure. Nobody has the right to deny Dan Devine his moment of glory........... Yours etc I have sat by and watched this fiasco for long enough. It's like a parent whose children have degenerated into schoolyard bullies. The last time I was a member of Soul Source was in December 2000, on the original Soul Source Talk, from which I was banned. After nearly eight years, I have asked Mike Hughes to let me post on here, because as one of the pioneers of your "scene" it makes me sick to my stomach how a few fascists have become what are basically internet trolls and tarred all the others with the same brush. Back on the Mary Fox show, I was unfair to many Soul Source members. Most are kind and caring people who love their music. It's those few I see - Tomangoes, Pikey's Dog, Steve Guarnori, Mark Bicknell, Jumping Joan, Black And White, etc etc etc, who are so possessive of their unique scene of rare records and soul collectors, that they deny the music any chance to exist in another thirty years. I have spent a lifetime fighting this sort of anarchy, and believe me it has taken a lot to make me come on here and post. Some of you on this thread should be ashamed of yourselves. A film is being set in an era of Wigan in 1974. You are dictating what the music should be. The biggest 1974 record in Wigan was The Javells "Goodbye Nothing To Say". I went every week. I know. I was there. Colin Curtis did the last two hours at the Mecca every week so that les Cokell and I could go to Wigan. No-one is expecting to have The Javells in the film, but this dictatorial insistence on only purist original sounds is bordering on the fascist ideals of 1930s germany. Dave Godin would turn in his grave. I am ashamed of some of you. And now I am here to not let you get away with your closed minded strangulation of a beautiful music form. You won't be happy till you're all seventy and dancing in your zimmer frames to Arthur Willis and The Soulful Dynamics. I have had THREE MILLION views of my videos on YouTube. THREE MILLION. Much as you will all hate to admit it, people who loved Northern Soul still love "Out On The Floor", "I'm On My Way", and "Do I Love You". Who are you to say they shouldn't ???? It's the tiny tiny few ruining it for all the rest. Outside of the tiny purist clubs with Soul Sam and Mark Bicknell, the rest of the Northern Soul Scene, you know - the bigger wider picture - made Sidney Barnes "Standing On Solid Ground" into the absolute biggest floorfiller of the last few years. But you won't even accept that fact. Because it wasn't made in 1969 and only one hundred copies pressed and Soul Sam paid a thousand quid for it. It's just hypocrisy. Your treatment of this film is hypocrisy. There are two films being made using a backdrop of Northern Soul. It's the best thing that could happen to the music. It might bring in a huge influx of people and damage your little rare club forever, and let music breathe again and be made anew. Lets hear songs with a Motown beat and a great melody again. I live for it and I pray for it. Edited August 21, 2008 by Ian Levine Link to comment Social source share

It came from another time and place. Most of it was made at least four thousand miles away, long before the scene existed. The scene may have a culture of its own but we should remember that the actual music is a product of someone else's culture. Paul Mooney Link to comment Social source share

I have spent a lifetime fighting this sort of anarchy, and believe me it has taken a lot to make me come on here and post. Some of you on this thread should be ashamed of yourselves. I've made two comments directly about this film - one stating that the director had come across as a bit of a prick, and another that I knew the person in charge of wardrobe, and that he was more clued up than any other wardrobe 'master' would be. Hardly dragging the film or it's premise down? I have no problem with the film whatsoever, whether it's purely about the music, a love story or whatever - because it means nothing to me - people basking in past glories and all that nonsense. Just because I think your over-inflated ego needs to be popped every once in a while, it does'nt mean i witsh the film ill. Get your facts right you sanctimonious twat.
