Guest gordon russell Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 the reason a lot of stuff that is really great was overlooked in the 70's, was just because there was so much to be found then, you could almost fall over it. The oldies only crowd make the bad mistake of asociating music they liked when they were young as the be all and end all of their lives, bit like ya mum and dad used to,cause they are now the same age .....as their mums and dads.Oldies/classics are brill always were always will be.....they just need to be played in amongst all the rest,as i've said before.......NOT IN A BIG HOUR LONG SET OF ...LOOK AT ME HAVEN'T I GOT RARE TUNES......peewee,shuck and heuy, whenever it was first played is not important, you like it or you don't........you can't really compare though.......first time l heard it l thought instantly .....GREAT what a good tune atb.....not as good as dewy black ,but goooood atb tezza
Quinvy Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Not at all . Wigan Casino and the 70's era was before my time and your right not everything was good [the pop stomper era is a good example] The point I was making was that back then the good ones were REALLY good and today the so called good ones are just average . Fortunately things like Lee Fields even the playlists up a bit [glad I bought that and many other 45's for £2.00 back in the late 80's when there was not the demand for them] Yes but I think Lee Fields is a very average record, so there you go. Different tastes.
Ritchieandrew Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I always thought these guys and Miles Grayson may have been influenced by the Jackson Five - certainly has that sort of feel. Whatever, I absolutely love it! Spot on there Gene.............the vocals may be a little raucous/J5 influenced, but also in my opinion a truly great record ! Best regards Ritchie.
