Ernie Andrews Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Troy Keyes "If I Had My Way" BH I love this and was sure I heard it out one night - Might have been in my dreams
Ernie Andrews Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Umaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.....also 'She Chased Me' KTF Baz I am going to own up here and admit I was responsible for She chased me - You can slap me with a wet fish next time you see me!
Ernie Andrews Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Heres on that was massive and a certain Dj in Ireland still likes to play it out Brainstorm - Lovin is really my game - Tabu
Chris L Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Dramatics - Inky dinky wang dang doo.....Woooh! Simon Very, very massive circa '72, must have been the lyrics that done it can't imagine anyone playing it now (though I suspect someone will post up it was played last week at BIDDS or sumfink!)
Chris L Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I'll start of with Roger Collins - Sexy Sugar Plum You just could not get on the dancefloor when it was at its peak, regardless of its reputation today. Any more for any more? Ed The Olympics - Same old thing (very topical) Triumphs - Coming to your rescue Little Carl Carlton - Competition ain't nothing Mamie Galore - It ain't necessary 1
Phil_H Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Troy Keyes "If I Had My Way" BH Have I missed something, what's wrong with this?
Guest KEN-SOUL Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 First round knockout, Joe Frazier?? nice one roger! i loved the song. is it still played today? chester pipkin-broken heart attack? porgy&monarchs-my heart cries for you?-all time classic isley bros-tell me its just a rumour?- "
Marc Forrest Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Tend to agree Pete.. I wish that sort of 70s was a bit more fashionable these days. One or two more from 75/76: World Column, So Is The Sun .... Al Foster, Night of The Wolf (awesome!) Dave Thorley kinda "re-activated" World Column last year and myself was including this here and there to from time to time. Fantastic Oldie that sounds very fresh these days. Al Foster has seen some reactivation thru the Funk Scene. I did include this as well whenever I was booked to play 7ts Soul last year. Marc
Guest bazabod_downunder Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 prepare yourself for a big slap of frozen icelandic cod...lol KTF Baz I am going to own up here and admit I was responsible for She chased me - You can slap me with a wet fish next time you see me!

Guest KEN-SOUL Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Chester Pipkin is really the SWEET on Smash. can you also pinpoint a record or two more, as my memory of a lot of these records/artists escape me now. i still thought joe mathews sang: i dont like to lose until a few years ago! i was way too busy dancing to bother about the names of artists etc... "i've been loving you too long"- female lead, someone post it on a soundbite pleeeese. "salt and pepper"- male lead, a wigan hit. "never"- female lead, early 70's? absolute classic. thank you, whoever you were, for the gary dean... anyone got "city lights" two great floor-fillers!

Guest KEN-SOUL Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Have I missed something, what's wrong with this? philh, if you like the record thats fine. we cant all love the exact same records. why has tommy hunt not, to my knowledge, been posted up on these pages recently? his "cracking up" and "get out" were extremely popular in the 70's.... or was that just me.
Pete S Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I think this podcast is still up and very relevant to this topic, here's the track list OLDIES OBLIVION 3/2/07 https://www.rare-soul.com/wordpress/?page_id=11 Once upon a time, these tracks were at the top of the heap - amongst the biggest sounds of the day - but now they are kept out of view, at the back of record boxes and on dusty shelves, never to be removed from their sleeves. Why? Have a listen to some of the biggest Northern Soul tracks of the 70's and decide whether they should remain in Oldies Oblivion! Guest KEN-SOUL Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Jumping at the Go Go - fabulous record. well done pete. the outsiders-loneley man- is one of the greatest records of all time. "ever again" bernie williams is playing as i write, from a wigan soundbite 1977. what a tremendous record, and the tremendous memories of standing clapping 3 times to the chorus!!! brilliant!
Guest Nik Mak Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Not quite as massive as 'I'm standing' Rufus Lumley 'I'm standing' was an awesome tune one of my all time favs. 'Stronger than me' was a huge tune at the Yate all-nighters back in the day and was an album only cut unless you had a dodgy acitate. Are they the same guy?

Guest bazabod_downunder Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Picked loads of copies up of this for 20p each in about 1980, gave quite a few away....it was released in 1979 on Contact it didn't make a lot of headway then, still a have one copy left & I actually quite like it, I read once that it was one of Russ Winstanley all time faves.....is that a pro or a con? KTF Baz Got it Diane Ducane "Better Late Than Never"
Supercorsa Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Anyone got a soundclip of that well known 4 figure tune by The Four Vandals?

Any more for any more? Ed Free for all - Philiip Mitchell, it really was a biggie at the Mecca circa '72, dropped dead the day it was released on Jay Boy
Koolkat Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 (edited) Ive got a tape from the Casino with.... Blanche Carter... Halos are for angels. macca Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Interesting thread. What about Alpaca Phase III 'I Like To Party'? Huge at Cleethorpes & Peterborough summer 75. Another piste packer at the same time was Reggie Garner's 'Hotline', which I don't think anyone's mentioned so far. Both Mecca records originally, no?

Guest john s Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 "Rodger Collins - Sexy Sugar Plum" Really? I'm a big fan of 'Foxy Girls in Oakland' - a monster - and 'She's Looking Good', of course, but this is a real dog of a record. Isn't it? Wasn't it always?
