Mach Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Fookin hell - I thought I used to like that! Just played the clip cos I couldn't remember - er, well. Obviously the medication at the time had a part to play. .... ..funny
Our Kid Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Silvetti-Spring Rain Sounds like it falls into the never to be revived category but I bet this one would hit the mark again with any younger members of the audience.Heard it out about 3 years ago and you know what - it sounded bloody good.Bizarrely it sounded fresh (no I wasn't half hissed!) Paul
pikeys dog Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Oh lord yes....was he trying to be Elvis or what? In a word, yes. Ral Donner is/was a famous Elvis-a-like.

Guest SIMONF Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Jeanette Williams, something goods gotta hold of me,early wigan play anyone got a copy for sale? Simon
good angel Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 What about,Fabula, I think thats how its spelled,I remember J,Vincent, playing it mid 70s,total pop record. Kev.
Pete S Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 somebody played l j johnson at brid this year couldnt believe it kev Kev - in I think it was late 78, Evison reactivated LJ Johnson and it went truly massive again, three years after initial plays. I don't think I've heard it played since but a lot of those records have actually dated pretty well - Barbara Pennington's 24 hours a day and Running in another direction being two absolute corkers. In my opinion, obviously
Guest moggy Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Millie Jackson : House for sale was massive and rightly so, I aint heard this at a venue for yonks

Guest inspirations001 Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Have been playing it in and around D¼sseldorf for the last couple of months. Lovely tune. always thought this was a great record. remember soul sam giving it a few spins around 1980. flip it over for ace mid tempo dancer(imho) that would go if given the spins. think it's called "it takes a woman to love a man". also re ral donner. he died a few years back and yeah he made his living as an elvis impersonator. i think he was in elvis' band at one point but i could be wrong. i usually am!!
Tabs Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Correct Harry. Been racking my brains to remember the one that reminds of that time VICKY SUE ROBINSON-TURN THE BEAT AROUND was it on RCA?

LJ Johnson, Evlyn Thomas & Barbara Pennington(I think). Mr Levine was giving away those "Tomorrow" demos of the tracks. I had a Doomsday Voc/Inst. Paul

Reg Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I went to a night a few years ago (sorry I'm too shy to mention which one.. ) and a lot of the records mentioned on this thread were played including the Man about the House theme (condition red... ). For a one off it was a bit of fun but I got the impression that it wasn't a one off for that venue. I've been to a few oldies nights but this was something else. Also on the list played that night were: Boogie Man Orchestra -Lady lady lady (instrumental) Gentleman and their lady - Like her Apples peaches pumpkin pie - Jay and the Techniques and what's that one called that goes "standing at the station, waiting for the number 8 train.."..is it Beverly Ann? Anyway....it seems that one person's "never again" is anothers "yes please" as the place was packed!
Jerry Hipkiss Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 and what's that one called that goes "standing at the station, waiting for the number 8 train.."..is it Beverly Ann? Yup, "He's coming home"...have to say, still one to get the ladeeez on the dancefloor - and quite a few guys as well. Truthfully, I'm bored with playing it, but still have to dig it out occasionally!

In my opinion, obviously Tend to agree Pete.. I wish that sort of 70s was a bit more fashionable these days. One or two more from 75/76: World Column, So Is The Sun Babe Ruth, Elusive Black Nasty, Cut Your Motor Off Esther Phillips, What A Difference A Day Makes Al Foster, Night of The Wolf (awesome!) and then there was: Barnaby Bye- Can't Live this Way, Biddhu- Exodus I went to a night a few years ago (sorry I'm too shy to mention which one.. ) and a lot of the records mentioned on this thread were played including the Man about the House theme (condition red... ). This should get played more. Eh? A couple of years ago you couldn't go in a venue (or a lift, for that matter) on the east side of the country without hearing Millie Jackson! BTW.. has anyone mentioned Wayne Gibson yet?
