Harry Crosby Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 is there many out there like me who love the music but due to commitments... work family etc get to very few soul nights etc?????????????? We get to a few but we can`t get to as many as we`d like to, in some ways it makes it better as it gives us something to really look forward to, at one time i was out every week but then again i was a lot younger
Guest Carrie Mehome Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 I think many people are in the same boat - commitments elsewhere and bills to pay often means you have to miss a few dos. Sometimes I save money by driving but that's no fun!
Davetay Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 (edited) We get to a few but we can`t get to as many as we`d like to, in some ways it makes it better as it gives us something to really look forward to, at one time i was out every week but then again i was a lot younger Hi Harry, when we where younger we were out every night, not just every week. P.S. good luck with York next week, i,m already committed to the EMS party in Sheffield. Dave Edited August 9, 2008 by davetay
Codfromderby Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 that,ll be me then, i,m on call with work one weekend a month, my missus works two weekends a month, that means the one weekend we are both off (if it falls that way) the three kids usually take up the time or i,m too knackered to do owt, but when i do go out i still at times get that rush when you here a new sound or an old sound youve not heard for years, then there is the mortgage, bills, teenagers financial demands, plus the depression that comes on when you realise the two tobi lark 45,s you sold for the price of a new work coat from milletts nowdays would buy you a half decent weeks holiday.... oh i,m so sad, and the missus is at work next weekend (she has no sympathy she says that our music is sad and frequented by old late 40,s bald blokes who should know better)
Guest Davjo Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 Increasing cost of living, work commitments, friends who have clashes/other commitments are all a bit of a constraint at the mo' and I have to be selective and/or compromise, especially where travel and overnights are concerned. But just got to grab what you can when you can and enjoy the build up. I'm not doing as much as I'd like ......................but in a way that just makes me appreciate more ! Cheers Davjo
Suzannek Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 oh i,m so sad, and the missus is at work next weekend (she has no sympathy she says that our music is sad and frequented by old late 40,s bald blokes who should know better) Well I am neither in my late 40s, bald or a man!! I'm 36 years of age (don't look it as I still get asked for ID frequently) oh and I'm a blonde I don't think any of our music is sad I think it is wonderful. Take no notice of what people say, particularly our nearest and dearest sometimes. I do love to go out to dos but for the last few weeks have had to stay in as I had a bump with my car so have been unable to drive anywhere Never mind am getting me car mended on Monday and there are a couple of dos am going to in the next few weeks. Hurray!! Suz x

Yeah me............I live in Belgium, try and pop out to soul venue Are you like me, tall handsome and owner of you own teeth ?
Davetay Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 oo Are you like me, tall handsome and owner of you own teeth ? No, small, bald but i do have my own teeth
Codfromderby Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 another thing to consider is that all music today is so very easily obtainable and available where and when you want it, years ago you had to go out to hear any new soul stuff, and if you owned it you could play it at home, tape it for the car, nowdays you can buy a cd with loads of stuff on you could never own, then put it on ipod and take it anywhere without going out, (bought a rare funk cd last week from asda) also there appears to be a new "social" scene where people talk about records without meeting or actually hearing those records played out, how many people have listened to job opening over the last few days via "new" methods e.g cd mp3, its a changing world
Deegee Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 is there many out there like me who love the music but due to commitments... work family etc get to very few soul nights etc?????????????? No, Im out all the time.... I dont think my kids would like Mummy if she had to stay in and couldnt let off a bit of steam!!

Guest Matt Male Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I try to get out at least twice a month and usually to at least one nighter and one soul night. Money and family commitments mean anything more is almost impossible, although sometimes i do three a month. This month it was Bishop's Wood nighter, Nuneaton Soul Night and Barnsley Stormin' Soul nighter. One of my big regrets is i can't support the same places all the time, otherwise i'd be out every weekend, need to get back to Lifeline at some point and give Burnley a go... Usually have at least one regular place, used to be the Marrs Bar, currently it's Middleton. I couldn't stop going, i love chatting to people and dancing and talking about records in the record bar. Despite what all the moaners say it's still a great scene.

Robin S Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I'm another, work shifts (frequently across weekends), a young bairn, but love my music as much if not more than ever (right across the board) and like Coddy appreciate the fact that it is so accessible these days. Off to Ems Sheffield this weekend and gagging for a good night out
Bjorn Nilsson Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 is there many out there like me who love the music but due to commitments... work family etc get to very few soul nights etc?????????????? I have the complete opposite problem: Too much spare time but not enough soul nights!

Guest andyrattigan Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I can only afford to go out about once every six weeks or so and I always head to the 100 club. Even if I could afford to I think I would only head out about every six weeks anyway. I like to have a build up between events so that I really cherish getting out and hitting the dancefloor and maybe picking up a new record or two as well. At some stage I would like to venture to a few venues up North as its been a few years since I went to an event here apart from Cllethorpes. This month as well as the 100 club there is an allnighter on my door step in Brighton on the August Bank Holiday so I will get out for that. Besides I go out mostly to hear the music and not really to socialise. Sure its nice to meet new people and have a laugh but for me thats secondary to just dancing and taking in the tunes.
