Pete S Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) Bit of a mystery this one. The record came out on RCA in the States, in the UK RCA was distributed by Decca at the time, which explains the Decca test pressing label, but as far as I know, this record never actually came out in the UK - unless it's undocumented. It's not a publishers acetate either. If anyone hasn't heard it - it's a brilliant female group midtempo sound. (sound clip a few posts down) Edited August 4, 2008 by Pete S
KevH Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 sure i've heard this before, but can you put a soundbite up Pete?.Very interesting acetate,is it for sale?.KEV

Pete S Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 By the way, where it says "Trevor" on the label - this guy must have been a regular disc cutter because I had an Advision acetate of "I can't turn you loose" and his name was on there as well.
Harry Crosby Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Great record one of my favs, got it on the rca release, very strange release that one, nice one pete
Ernie Andrews Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Hi Pete - what marking are on it that suggests UK made rather than US? Just interested! P.S What are you going to sell it for?
KevH Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 quality girl group sound.Should have no problem at all selling this Pete.Unusual acetate, haunting vocal's...great stuff.
Pete S Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) Hi Pete - what marking are on it that suggests UK made rather than US? Just interested! P.S What are you going to sell it for? I just know that that is what UK Decca acetates look like Steve - plus the fact that it's the same cutter as did another one I had from Advision Studios in London - I'm sure there's a scan of it up on here somewhere, I'll try and find it. What's astonishing is that nobody bid against me on ebay - either nobody spotted it, didn't know it or just wasn't interested in it. Edited August 7, 2008 by Pete S
Pete S Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Steve here is another UK Decca acetate I found on popsike, note the name Trevor again
John Parker Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Had one in my sales box for ages---may still be there Nice record--as Harry said came out on RCA?--Demo did anyway--never seen an issue
Pete S Posted August 4, 2008 Author Posted August 4, 2008 Had one in my sales box for ages---may still be there Nice record--as Harry said came out on RCA?--Demo did anyway--never seen an issue Yeah I've got the demo too - never seen an issue either but there's bound to be one I reckon. Books at 150 issue 85 demo, I'd ask 50/60 for the demo but I'd want more for the acetate
Dave Pinch Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Hi Pete - what marking are on it that suggests UK made rather than US? Just interested! P.S What are you going to sell it for? looks as if decca were actually thinking of putting this out in the uk in the 60s as pete says decca marketed rca stuff in the uk ( 1957 to 1969). I got a mate of mine locally a black issue for 100quid i think, coz he collected black issues. also mick smith had a copy at one time dave
Gene-r Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 It's also possible that this was cut with a view to be covered in the UK by a British artist. I once had an original Belinda acetate of "Let's Go Somewhere" by R. Dean Taylor (which wasn't released here until 1974), and I'm led to believe that it was cut for the likes of David Garrick or Beryl Marsden to get some idea how to cover it. Both these cover versions were released in the UK in 1966.

But this isn't a publishers acetate like yours was, it's a straight Decca acetate - there's no publishing info on the label at all.
Pete S Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 (edited) I've decided to keep this after all... Edited August 8, 2008 by Pete S
Pete S Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 I have the RCA demo of this for sale for £50 if anyone's interested
BrianB Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Hi Pete, I'm positive this was played at the Birch in Ashton under Lyne's Thursday night sessions around 92/93. ATB, Brian
