Gouch Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Troop; Great thread this, the one tune that has always stood out from the Contempo crowd for me is the Major's "Dark and lonely", as mentioned earlier by Darks. Took me years to find a minter on Okeh, both are serious prize possessions in my world. Gouch
Soul Shrews Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Montclairs "Make Up For Lost Time" would be up there for me Cheers Paul
Guest Ste Brazil Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Rita de Costa's Don't bring me down Got a copy for sale if anyboy wants it!? Ste.
Chris L Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Montclairs Hung up on your love, gets my vote BH I would have put that down as the worst record on Contempo Chris L

KevH Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Troop; Great thread this, the one tune that has always stood out from the Contempo crowd for me is the Major's "Dark and lonely", as mentioned earlier by Darks. Took me years to find a minter on Okeh, both are serious prize possessions in my world. Gouch ,prefer the Okeh cut of "Dark and Lonely" myself. I've never seen an Incredibles on Mojo. I'd certainly give you more than your 50p for it if you've got one Sean

Guest Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I would have put that down as the worst record on Contempo Chris L Well you're wrong, it is not the worst, infact it's one of the best!!
Chris L Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Might need to check your copy, Chris. I've never seen an Incredibles on Mojo. I'd certainly give you more than your 50p for it if you've got one Sean WHOOPS !! You're right, I was thinking of Invitations - What's wrong with me.
Chris L Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Well you're wrong, it is not the worst, infact it's one of the best!! How can I be wrong ? Was there a Supreme Court Judgement or a House of Lords precedent or even a European Court of Humain Rights pontification stating that ?
Pete S Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I would have put that down as the worst record on Contempo Chris L I already did put it down for the worst. I hate those scurrying strings, it's just a mess, and those awful falsetto vocals.
Pete S Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 The Montclairs track is quality Ste. Yep, sh*t quality
Pete S Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 As well as Sweet Sherry, I'd have to add Cigarette Ashes as being equal best track on the label
Guest Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Montclairs Hung up on your love, gets my vote BH Best record on Contempo ? Certainly was not " Gotham City Boogie " ........ Malc Burton
Guest Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 I already did put it down for the worst. I hate those scurrying strings, it's just a mess, and those awful falsetto vocals. Well its not the worst, and its not a mess, and the vocals are great, and are pure soul music!! You should be ashamed to fault a record of this quaility, because its great and thats a fact!! You're more wrong than Ray and Dave!
Pete S Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 You should be ashamed to fault a record of this quaility, because its great and thats a fact!! You should be ashamed that you can't respect that other people have opinions different to yours, and that's a fact!
Guest Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 You should be ashamed that you can't respect that other people have opinions different to yours, and that's a fact! I do respect peoples opinions that are positive, the post is called "Best Record on Contempo"
jocko Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 ,prefer the Okeh cut of "Dark and Lonely" myself. Got a copy of "Don't forget that i love you " on Contempo in Sales.(sorry for hijack, but business is business ).KEV. I have the Contempo one, but have never heard the Okeh one, assume it is a different record. Sound file anyone?
Steve Edgar Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 You should be ashamed that you can't respect that other people have opinions different to yours, and that's a fact! a bit "pot kettle black" there! steve
Pete S Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 (edited) a bit "pot kettle black" there! steve Do you really think that's it's appropriate for someone to say you should be "ashamed" not to like a record? Edited August 9, 2008 by Pete S
grouse Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 (edited) huh huh Edited August 11, 2008 by grouse
Guest mel brat Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Beat me to it ya rascal! Ok, I'll go with Roshell Anderson "Know What You're Doing When You Leave"... Sean Roshell & Bessie - both terrific deep sides, sure 'nuff! - and wasn't there a nice Tommie Young side also? In a slightly different groove, the Montclairs obviously, and I also rate the Quadraphonics (superb!), Third Time Around and the Boogie Man Orchestra (natch!) (Worst sides, anything by The Armada Orchestra! )
Sean Hampsey Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Roshell & Bessie - both terrific deep sides, sure 'nuff! - and wasn't there a nice Tommie Young side also? Tommie Young "She Don't Have To See You" / "That's All a Part Of loving Him" Mel. One of my Desert Island discs for sure! Sean
Guest mel brat Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Tommie Young "She Don't Have To See You" / "That's All a Part Of loving Him" Mel. One of my Desert Island discs for sure! Sean Thanks, that's the one. (Only got it on one of the 'Soul Deep' compilations though!)
