Prophonics 2029 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 (edited) I don't think there are any a listed dj's not in Northern soul and as for artists or anything not sure someone like Diana Ross maybe but when you think of imagine your on celebrity big brother or i'm a celebirty and some dj like Ian Levine comes on most people might say another z list star amongst others. Humm! personally I would role out the red carpet for Kenny B, Keith & Bob, Flynn,Butch, Ady C, Mick Smith and the H one (could go on all night) all great DJ's and worth their weight in styrene any day. Surely some of these tunes need a rest by now
Prophonics 2029 Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 (edited) Got to disagree with both of you hear. I see these DJ play month after month and the backbone of the tunes they have is quiet frightening they are constantly change their sets with new sounds to play. Even a collector gonna repeat himself if he plays 2 or 3 times a month 12 months a year As I said the list goes on with your Andy Dyson, Kitch, Darge & Guy. Edited August 8, 2008 by Prophonics 2029
Guest Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 whose been ignoring you Blake... apart from me don't know about A listers so much now - but theres always been cliquy groups of folks... if they're all together, you'll be lucky to get a hello - but if out alone they're suddenly your best buddy! personally as an A-Lister , sometimes I'll talk to people, sometimes I don't - I'm not always in a chatty mood - though am always happy to oblige with a kiss and a smile ps. Blakey are you and that stunning bird of yours coming to Thorne tomorrow?
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 But if we talking about a list DJ's in just soul music/Northern soul then yes but not in the world of celebrities where people are put into a list and z list and so on. Would Ian Levine be ranked an a list with Simon Cowell would you expect Ady C and Soul Sam etc to be a listed with The Beckhams and so on. point being no so in our own world of Northern soul yes they are a lists but not in the general world
Guest Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 (edited) Think these imaginary lists only exsist in the minds of those who would like to be on them, another thread were nobody actualy has the nuts to say what they mean. well, I'm saying what I mean. I'm surprised you haven't come across it too Andy, re:Middleton. I've lost count of the number of people who've expected to be put on our guest list over the years because of who they are or what they do. Or the other side of it, where people aren't really that interested in you until they realise you run a venue and they go out of their way to make friends with you and are really interested, whilst always trying to get a spot too. I've had that conversations with loads of promotor's who've experienced it. Jayne. Edited August 11, 2008 by Miss BurySoul
Guest mel brat Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 (edited) There are no 'A-Listers' on the Soul scene - just the odd characters who think they should be regarded as such by lesser mortals! Edited August 11, 2008 by mel brat
sepia Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 we are all treated as 'A' listers when on way to the record bars with £ to spend

I know what your saying jane, dont really suffer from it to much myself i have a small social circle and aint over sociable to start with, and i never do the door at any of the events im involved with.
NEV Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Following a conversation with a friend recently they mentioned A listers on the scene, ("they only talk to you untill some A listers turn up") whilst I respect many people on the scene I never would call them A listers, I know I dont get about as much these days but is this really the case and are we copying society in general? Just curious Blake A listers Dj's who turn up just before their set and disappear straight after,oh and usually have someone else carry their records for them How about dj/ promotors who ,only invite fellow promotor/dj's for return favour, sit on same table as each other ,dismiss punters as under classes .They mingle all night with fellow promotors and wallow in self importance until they get up for work the next day and realise they are just ordinary people .figments of their own imaginations Cringeworthy!

Guest Soultown andy Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 (edited) Would agree nev lots of promoters djs do trades for spots etc not a problem for me dont get on with most of em ,pet hate for me promoters who pretend to be everyones m8.Promoters job is to put on the best nite he can,djs job to impress the dancers not himself as for lists who cares. And your dead right bout djs just turnin up for there spot unless they are djin at a club on route to middleton a total no no for me to turn up 10 mins before and then piss off, would never book em again no matter who they are. pikeys dog Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Have only ever come across the term 'a' list once, and that was a DJ asking me to book them, and giving me the price they wanted paying for doing me this fantastic service... My response was - thanks, but no thanks.
Geordiejohnson Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 A listers??????....do they exist...do they b*llocks...its pretencious crap when people go on about..big sound coz so and so is playing it..so it must be good or someone talks about how fantastic their collection is i squirm the guy i admire is the guy/gal who works hard all week for feck all, n scrapes their last pennies together to buy the tune they love..isnt influenced by the massess loves all soul not just the dancers... isnt interested in impressing a bloody soul, loves their £1 tunes as much as their more expensive ones but can talk and understands their art and love with a passion...and dont pretend to know a tune when they dont! ive talked to one or two "big Hitters" who are clueless about soul in general apart from those with a price tag and play to impress, not to fill a floor and inevitably their set is a cobbled miss match. give me a true soul lover anyday and im tickled pick...feck the big buck tunes...or perceptions None pretentious people who are f**king A list gurus to me..Joe Dutton dave n Bri Pinch , angus oldfield, rory sykes, russ steele...they'll all kill me now, but their real life soul afficionados who live for their music , with no glam and most of you'll be saying "who are they".......EXACTLY...but i dont go on about them or swoon when they enter the room i just want to know when they are buying the next round Geeoooordie This comment was edited by site due to language used.
Guest bazabod_downunder Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Spot on.....more so because the people considered 'A listers' (DJ wise that is) by the people who are concerned with pigeonholeing, really don't give a toss they're there (hopefully) because of their love of the music...& if they do feel they deserve to have some kind of demi-god status, that just goes to show how pretentious they are....as said nobody knows everything, & we're all in it to win it. ROD lol.. it's not the people with the exaggerated sense of their own importance that really piss me off the most, it's people who will chat to you until someone they deem to be more important walks in and they blatantly (sp) break off from your conversation or (even worse) interupt you to talk to said person who has just walked in.. it is SO rude.
