Blake H Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Following a conversation with a friend recently they mentioned A listers on the scene, ("they only talk to you untill some A listers turn up") whilst I respect many people on the scene I never would call them A listers, I know I dont get about as much these days but is this really the case and are we copying society in general? Just curious Blake

Just curious Blake Not sure about 'A' listers on the scene but there are people who are like that in all walks of life. Always scanning the room to see if someone more influential or 'important' to them comes in and then they're off to talk to them. I see it all the time dealing with budding politicians who haven't yet realised the negative impact it has on their image, both from the one they ditch in favour of someone else but also from the one they then go and impose themselves upon. I only break of a conversation with someone when an old face not seen out and about for ages comes into a record bar with a battered old box of tat he thinks no one is interested in buying . Its rude but you have to be quick to beat Ian Cunliffe to the bargains

Russ Vickers Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I dont think anyone considers themselves to be 'A' list on the scene, its more about the perception of the social climbers, you do see it at Nighters............I think thats why some DJ's & well known people have been considered rude on occasions, theyre not stupid, they know who's who, & if your just poncing or being sycaphantic (spelling ?)................trying to bask in reflected glory so to speak.............I would never say anything other than a quick hi to someone I didnt really know, unless introduced, it just doesnt feel right, & even if your intentions are genuine, I think folk might be making the wrong assumption about me..............I havnt put that very well, but hopefully you know what I mean. Russ

Russ spot on that man!. Although, I think a few do actually consider themselves' A list.. I bloody hate it.. you see it every week. Hopefully I've never been guilty of it. I always remember when people do it to me. It's quite easy after a while to spot the difference between "social climbers" / "networkers" and folks who are genuinely nice people. To me, maybe there is a kind of "A List" (crap term btw) and I guess it should be those who started it all, went out discovering records, starting the scene off etc and without their hard word and dedication, we wouldn't have the scene we have today. Jayne.x. Spot on that woman! I've heard this term 'social climbers' before.. It's a bit sad in some respects when you consider the etiquette we have on our scene. This 'I'm better than you' attitude is completely at odds with the generally accepted and understood friendly etiquette we have. Maybe these so called 'A listers' should be exempt from this unwritten ruling by us mere mortals? So if you're dancing and you clip one of these mothers, instead of a tactile reassurance and a smile, give them a scowl & the bird!? My biggest worry is that I am at times a bit addled at these nighters and with a pish poor memory, it would be horrendous to have this shabby state of consciousness mistaken for rudeness/aloofness.. In the final analysis the music is king and we are all equal admire-rs of this kingly music imvho.

Prophonics 2029 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 (edited) Isn't this paranoia and insecurity setting in. Its only a night out . Most of the time I am getting drinks in, dancing, looking through records and a chat but if I DJ then my mind is somewhere else, planning my next set. If Blake takes that girl in his advater with him know wonder he gets ignored. Edited August 7, 2008 by Prophonics 2029
