Tomangoes Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 When Quadraphenia was made it was 10 to 15 years after the real thing. The Casino is now 30+ years on from its heyday, so finding 500 dancers who could do 10 records not stop like 'afterrnoon of the Rhino' etc may be easier said than done. Im OK for about 30 seconds of the first tune, if somebody wants to do 'tag'. I cant undsertand though why it always has to be the second tier of Northern Soul clubs that get the focus when as a historical project surely it should dwell on the origins, and especially before it was blatently commercialised. Ed

Ed its the most well known ed, so its appealing to a bigger audience. they wouldnt make a film about the mojo club 4 instance
Jez Jones Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 and the other 25-plus. is this another film rather than the 'souled out' that they were researching and filming at the Kings Hall the other week. If it is then f*ck me they were after 1000 under 25's as well.

Guest mel brat Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 ...35 years later, and the big "Wigan Casino = Northern Soul" cash bandwagon continues rolling on, and on, and on... Seriously, when is enough more than enough? Surely those that actually attended the Casino really don't want their happy memories sullied with further poorly written and researched books, films, stage plays/musicals, TV programmes, magazines, CD compilations, facsimile badges, novelty rock and bubblegum cards do they?

I think thats a tad extreme...I used to go to the Hacienda every week...and when 24 hour party people came out its not like every man and his dog suddenly got into it...and thats far more current...talk about dreaming up the worst possible case scenario
Mike Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 this the third "work in progress" film then ? souled out function at the junction and ...
Iancsloft Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Mickie Cruise can play the part of my old buddie Pete Lawson , i can play myself cos i still look the same as i did when i was 19 in 1973 minus the baggy pants and long hair
Guest mel brat Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 (edited) its not like every man and his dog suddenly got into it... Maybe so, but look what happened last time! After the "Footsie" debacle it perhaps pays to be a bit circumspect and to expect the worst of this over publicity - at least then we'll be in a position to counter the inevitable backlash! Edited July 28, 2008 by mel brat
Spacehopper Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 in my opinion i think it can only be good for the scene as they say ..theres no such thing as bad publicity....unless you are one of those who would rather the scene got smaller which also has some good points to it and a valid oppinion you are entitled too the mods and rockers on a bank holiday(quodrophenia) was part of our history which has led to the scooter raliies of today and spread around the world...the manchester sound (24 hour party people)was also part of our history so why not a film about the 70s northern scene which has also spread around the world .... as far as the dancers ,yes they are gonna struggle getting 1000 dancers under 25 ...there must have been a dozen or more yougsters doing some good moves at kings hall last week they can be used for close ups....do the wide screen shots need to be youngsters?...if so im sure there are loads of dance schools about with students who can learn the moves good enuff to be an extra in a crowd scene
Guest gordon russell Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 the problem is when the media or in this case film people get involved, they always get it so wrong, you know what l mean they always interview the wrong people, ask the wrong questions, get daft answers. We'll probably get a film a little like alice in wonderland, all sugary and full of half truths. The researchers always seek out who they think should know about these things, you know people who might have a vested interest to tell their versions of things,K.R,I.L or R.W.This is just my view, but l can't help feeling this is what will happen. They should ask some of the folk still about now who went, people with real stories to tell.just my opinion.
spot Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 big russ" no pushing at the back!.. More like, "No pissing up our back", what ever happened to his Uncle "Miami Bob" the Soul searching music guru of all the music broken on the scene, via the Casino?? I remember it as somewhere to go on the way home from the Mecca that resembled a skip but with good mates, good atmosphere & a great dancefloor, they'll never be able to recreate it, THANK GOD!!! Take care, be safe & remember,"Always bathe after the Casino,if only to remove the nicotine, makes sense you know", Spot.
Epic Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Problem is that Northern Soul - as I have said many times on here - ceased to be underground in 1975 - can't think that any film/documentary produced by the "outside world" in 2008 has really got anything interesting to say. I always cringe at the way the media portrays the scene - no piece of film or written word can ever put across our deep rooted love & passion for the music - it is a very personal thing which is beyond description. Should imagine the film will feature working class kids (played by middle class actors) - stuck in dead end jobs- living for the weekend - the music - the All Nighter - the drugs - giving them the release their mundane lives crave for.
Guest Roddy Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 if they are looking for extras can i play two scottish lads 'cause i am twice the weight and size i was then !!!!!!!!

I for one am looking forward to seeing the film - assuming this one is actually released of course... Ste.

Prophonics 2029 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 (edited) 500 people in a big hall will look like a quiet night out, interesting project see how they get on. Are there enough Speedo bags around for props. Shame I am on the larger version of this picture, it was used for that 500 anniversary poster but I have been cropped off, except for muscles I look not much different. Prophonics 2029 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 (edited) That picture pops up time and time again...does anyone know the woman? Hahaha woman so funny at the time she was a girl of about 16 or 17, can't remember her name, she use to go out with my mate Billy Valentine I think Billy was still at school. Dose seem to be only a limited supply of casino pictures, the same ones all the time, funny the last thing I would of ever thought to take was a Kodac instamtic camera with a few cube flashes but after saying that I do have a picture somewhere of me and the beautiful Glenda from Scotland. Timmy Mallett Malc Burton Why not do the entire film in cartoon pixcels like Walt Disney story books for the large screen, ie Toy Story and Shriek etc, be brilliant if not verging on funnier and more soulfully acceptable. Was not Shriek based upon Wigan toilets and the swamp monsters within it. . Who would play Buzz Lightyear or the Chalky Queen .
