michael-j
anyone know anything about this track, e.g. who Bill and Will were? not the easiest names to Google for... only recently found out that it had a UK release (Fontana) and appears on the 'English Freakbeat' volume of the Pebbles series... so were they British or is that a compilers' mistake? Sebastian
anyone know anything about this track, e.g. who Bill and Will were? not the easiest names to Google for... only recently found out that it had a UK release (Fontana) and appears on the 'English Freakbeat' volume of the Pebbles series... so were they British or is that a compilers' mistake? If I remember correctly, it is mentioned in the liner notes that it is a US track, but they wanted to include it anyway... They are from the US. The local issue is on ATHENS, and then it was picked up by CHECKER. Bill & Will have got some other 45s on ATHENS/HERMITAGE as well. It has often been claimed that "Bill" is Billy Lee Riley, but as far as I know that is not the case. The songwriters on both tunes on that Bill & Will 45 are "Riley / Sasser / Willis". The full names of the songwriters are: Robert S. Riley William W. Sasser Jr. Jerry Leon Willis My guess is that two of the above guys are Bill & Will. Ady Croasdell
Ady, there's one for sale on Gemm Thanks but need a M/M- copy, there's was VG+. Yes Sebastian I think the Robert Riley connection puts paid to the Billy Lee Riley theory. Robert Riley did productions for Ted Jarrett's Nashville labels.
