Billywhizz Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 As you know the casino music policy changed 3 or 4 years down the line, when they put the regular music playing on a saturday night then converted it to the last Friday of every month and class it as oldies, and yet today music which i've been hearing the last 6-7 years from the same venues up and down the country from well known top djs. So why don't they say its a oldies night? So if the casino can change there music policy, so why don't clubs do it today or they don't want to be tanished with the same brush,a straight forward question and straight forward answer. Billy

Billy Newies become oldies the day after you buy said newie sometimes this can be a bit later as in after you first played it and then put into record box to gather dust then it becomes an oldie

Jayne.x. hi jayne i got 3 flyers infront of me nothing mentioned about the music policy, unless the djs carries a policy

Jayne.x. ============ Does Billy not mean, even at the forward thinking venues he tends to hear a lot of the same records? Or have I misunderstood?

Billy The fact that people pigeon-hole tunes into oldies, newbies, inbetweenies, etc says volumes for the garbage that the chin strokers spew out of their lips. Who cares ?? BTW Stoke a blast sorrow you wern't there. Chris L
Dylan Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 ============ Does Billy not mean, even at the forward thinking venues he tends to hear a lot of the same records? Or have I misunderstood? Thats how I read it. but do the customers attending rare soul nights not want to hear at least a selection out of a given number of records ? a lot of the top DJs must have records that people associate with them and as a result they will get played. some of these records may have taken a lot of finding in the first place so will get a good spell of time on the tuntables.
Des Crombie Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I think it all depends on your definition of a newie and an oldie. I always thought an oldie was something that was played and made big in the 70's before and during the height of northern, Casino etc. While a newie was something that became accepted on the scene after this time 80's Stafford etc. With this definition a newies always a newie etc etc. Could be wrong though, its all a load of shite really. Billy you could be opening a can of worms mate

Billy you could be opening a can of worms mate I think he may have.... but saying that when I went to my first nighter in about 3 years a couple of months ago I didn't know too many. There were plenty of new sounds mixed in with the stuff I knoiw and like.
Dave Moore Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 In our house there's no such descriptions. We do however have our own descriptions....Guddies and Shyties.
Guest Netspeaky Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 It's an individual thing, a lot depends when you first heard the record, if it's your first time or 100 then it's a newie, if you've been hearing it played out for the last 30, 20, 10 years its an oldie, that's my take on it, that's why I'm stilling coming across 60's newies.
Guest Beeks Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 In our house there's no such descriptions. We do however have our own descriptions....Guddies and Shyties. Hahahaha Thats my catagorization too
Guest bazabod_downunder Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 LOL dave....think that actually in it's simplicity it sums it all up.....but as the old adage goes 'one mans garbage is anothers gold'.....on a more serious note, nobody knows everything, so I'm sure many of us have been amazed when someone chirps in 'Ain't heard this before' to some bygone oldie or we even say otherselves 'damn this is a top tune' to have looks of *don't you KNOW this* KTF Baz In our house there's no such descriptions. We do however have our own descriptions....Guddies and Shyties.
Kjw Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Newies become oldies once the dyhard oldies crowd have heard them a few times and decided they like them and are okay to dance to
Guest Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 ============ Does Billy not mean, even at the forward thinking venues he tends to hear a lot of the same records? Or have I misunderstood? Ah, gotcha!.. Yes, I wondered that... I asked Chalky about that on another thread recently.... Good point Billy. I think that's why I've enjoyied a few nights recently that have been billed as 'oldies' nights, because in our area they're becoming a rarety. Jayne.x
