Guest moggy Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Anyone else ever done this in the past or the present come to that One night at the Casino I was as usual rummaging through boxes, I was fairly new to the scene and more importantly new to the collecting scene, I recognised a number of people in there but didn't at that time know a great deal of folk, so my knowledge of record collecting like many at that time was very limited, add this to the fact that a lot of top ticket tunes around today were very affordable back then. Anyway I digress, whilst looking through this 50 box which had about 20 records in it, I came across a Stateside copy of the Temptations : Girl why you wanna make me Blue, I casualy asked the lad "how much" he replied "one fifty" now as I stated I was new to the collecting scene (16 years old at this time) and I knew that this record on Stateside was hard to find, so I was in that situation (and others must have been there to) where by I didn't know if he meant £1.50p or £150.00 honestly, so with beads of sweat rolling down my face I produced £1.50p "Cheers mate" he replied Anyway with the deal struck & record in hand I turned around, as I did this, a lad I recognised from being a regular in the record bar was there stood in front of me & I also knew he collected Motown & Stateside etc, "Can I have a look" he said So I showed him this copy of the Tempts, "How much do you want for it" well I was a bit shocked, didn"t have a clue on value and had never sold a record in my life "Well how much you wanna give me for it" I said, he emptied out his pockets and came up with a figure of £12 (f**k me Pink I thought) I nearly bit his fookin hand off So In a matter of 2 to 3 minutes I had bought & sold a record, recording a profit of £10.50 which was a fair bit in them days Only downer to this whole story, with the money I proceeded to buy for £12 a UK UA Jay & The Americans Got Hung Up Along The Way, also in the box I bought this from was a Willie Kendricks Demo £8 Seven Souls £3 Majestics £14 I did get hold of all of them in time as they were everywhere in them days So maybe not only the fastest turnaround on a deal, but a right cock up on choice of investment also Never Mind happy days anyone else got a story simillar on buying and selling at break neck speed
Harry Crosby Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I did the same thing at the same place, with a copy of sue lynn, bought it for £12 turned round and was talking to one of my mates, when this scotch guy begged me to sell it to him and gave me £25 crisp pounds-RESULT!!!!!!!!!!
