Guest swoz Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 that has to be the most patronizing reply i have ever read on here, words fail me SOUL-SOURCE WAS CREATED PART OF THAT WE CAN VOICE AN OPINION. TO MANY TIMES WE DON'T VOICE OUR OPPINIONS WHEN IT MATTERS, TURN A BLIND EYE TO REALLITY. YET WHEN PETTY SQUABLES HAPPEN, EVERYBODY JUMPS ON THE BANDWAGON, VOICING YOUR OPPINION IS THE ONLY WAY FORWARD NO MATTER WHAT,COMMUNICATION WITH PROMOTERS,D.Js ,PAYING PUBLIC . "SAY WHAT YOU FEEL"..WHY DO WE VOICE ,ONLY AFTER THE EVENT. PATRONIZING IM'E NOT,JUST SOMEONE WHO DOES'NT LOOK AWAY. NOT AFRAID TO SPEAK OUT.OR TURN MY BACK ON SOMETHING AND WALK AWAY.THAT'S ME SWOZ

Little-stevie Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 Time for bed now Swoz.. I do voice my thoughts, most people know that.. I too cherish the internet for people to spread thoughts and let us gain more insight.. I aint ever gonna shy away from something i really believe in, plus i aint gonna sell my soul to the devil... Yes i want truth and justice, important things in my book.. Its just endless slagging back and forth on a public forum that gets people down if its not constructive.. The history lesson you sent me... Maybe we can carry that on in a private chat sometime.. Always out and about or just pm or email me
billysbag Posted July 6, 2008 Posted July 6, 2008 as a punter with no desire to d.j ,promote or collect thin discs of vinyl purchased at ridiculouse prices, have come to the conclusion that apart from a few rare folkn who do it out of love, the vast majority unfortunately do it for the money ,the root cause of evil .sad but true. and before I get pasted .how many of you would be prepared to run a venue at a loss week in an week out . how many djs would play for nowt.an how many dealers would sell their discs for a realistic not ridiculouse price .imho greed will kill our scene myself and 4 other locals ran a venue for just under two yrs at a small profit and spent all the profit on xmas dos that were free admission. i think youl be mildly surpirised at the amount of people who do,in fact, run venues with no thought of financial gain but get their kicks out of seeing people enjoy what they put on.

Guest bazabod_downunder Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 So is it down to handbags at 40 paces then...lol KTF Baz closed yet another "local" dispute thread there's some promoters on here who do need to look at how they are using this site idea is that you promote your own events on here in a sort of positive manner rather than going around de-promoting others wise up please
Spacehopper Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 what the f*** is going on people ?....ive been into a few 'musical' scenes ,been upto my neck in reggae (ragga, revival and dub) northern and dabbled in techno and drum and bass for a couple of years in the 90s and when youre out at a night i have always found the northern scene the most polite ,friendly and respectful of them all....no prejudice, attitudes or trouble....and yet if you come on here it seems to be the complete opposite sometimes....and we want new people ? lets hope they dont visit this site first ! soul source should be to meet like minded people ,make new friends promote your gig AND find out about others....please cant you bickering promoters do it in private cos this is doing no good for any of you !
Guest gordon russell Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 can't agree with the comments on here about people posting their thoughts and opinions. I have always posted on topics that I strongly believe in,that affect the scene. I am told on this site that I am negative, not very helpful not a (soulie errgh) usually by the people and their friends because they are feeling a bit uncomfortable with the truth. When i'm out and about it's a differant story everyone to a man says to me spot on mate, your only saying what we're all thinking. If we are not truthful as we see it on this forum how can things be addressed and maybe put right. Heres an example how many times have you been to a do that has been so so with dj's playing a duff set, people then come on here and say what a brilliant night all the dj's played great sets and that person has told you the night before how crap it was. Telling the truth as to why this or that might be going wrong is not negative it's positive because it makes folk think is this right might be? At the end of the day a lot of people who post on here (not everyone please) care not how wrongly someones behaved, how out of order they are, they just carry on as if nowt happened. Just like real life I suppose
Guest rachel Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Mrdarcy - there's a difference between expressing your opinions and the "he did this" "she did that" sort of threads that we've been getting recently.

Guest kev such Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 (edited) i think youl be mildly surpirised at the amount of people who do,in fact, run venues with no thought of financial gain but get their kicks out of seeing people enjoy what they put on. Too true Bill enjoying is what its all about! JB xxxKTFxxx Yep, have to agree. When i 1st started Cream Cracker there wasn't another event on in the immediate area to me. Except for the Ritz. Had a chat with a few people and decided to start up the Cream Cracker. The main reason i set it up is because i wanted to put on an event where the emphasis was on DANCING. Wether it was to generic Northern, RnB and Crossover stuff or bits not heard for ages or forgotten about. we dont do across the board or play rare or modern etc etc.... The DJ's that guest at the Cream Cracker generally play the tunes the venue caters for. ANY profit made is used to pay for everything for the Christmas Cream Cracker as ALL monies taken goes to a charity. However if there was no money then, like last year i pay for the Christmas one. I KNOW im not the next Soul Sam, Kenny Burrell or Sean Chapman or that the Cream Cracker will become the in-place to be seen at or mentioned in dispatches and i am under NO illusion that my name will never be in lights or that the ladies on the scene are going to be ripping my clothes off at every opportunity they get. However i, as i hope the people who attend the Cream Cracker just want to have a good night out for the 5 1/2 hours that the event is on and thats IT. IM NOT trying to better any other event or to rise above any other DJ or promoter, and believe me if i had known prior to starting the Cream Cracker that i would be having to defend my own intregrity all the time i wouldnt have bothered. But to be quite honest, its the look of people as they go home covered in sweat and smiling that makes it all worthwhile. Lastly i hoped that the name i chose for the event would tell people that the whole event is meant as fun, friendly and that everyone goes home Cream Crackered from dancing. Come on guys according to Nostradamus we have only got until the 12th December 2012 or something like that. Kind regards Kev Edited July 7, 2008 by kev such
Pete Morgan Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 how many djs would play for nowt well in Sydney, we pay to get in to the nights to help the promoters break even . We Dj for nothing and we all have a great time ...no ego's or problems....just a common love for the music and a need to keep it going Pete m

I remember we never charged the dj's for entry. Personally, I think it's wrong due to the wear on vinyl. (As you'd recall, in the late 90s, we girls also did well enough to regularly pay the dj's.) No egos or problems there? m
