Nothing if it's in an "events lookback".

True it's not in the events section and i hope i'm not jumping the gun here, but hopefully this is the sort of thing Mark and others will be playing at the Liberal Club in Bedworth in September.

We're not working as a double act here, honest...

I do know what that is, but no I didn't.

Quite a few oddities that I've never heard in there along with a lot of older goodies which I'd forgotten about - 9th St Exit (fomer 25 pencer), Satyr, Dave Crawford, Sir Wales Wallace, The Duprees, R.B. Hudman Jr and, of course, Lee Mitchell (which I think is pretty damn rare).

I'll have to check out a few of 'em though - all new to me and not that obvious ("Mighty Love Man" - Black Stash?).

I'd like to see more lists like this - they're interesting to me and make me check out things I wouldn't normally listen to. I'm listening to the Ann Sexton now.............

hi dave,

probably put the in the wrong section (again) sorry if this upset ya matey

dont need to promote meself mate ive been around long enough on the scene not to have to do that

also not unusual on soul source to put up playlists and current spins for the good of everyone to see what different people are spinning or playing

if thats not your bag - oh well

cant all be the same

Here here. matt, makes you wonder sometimes dunnit really, i suppose in this day and age of soaring petrol costs and all that if i was to travel to a venue for the first time i`d like to have some idea as to what i was gonna hear, think this is as i said a good idea, gives us summat to discuss and an insight in my case as to whats getting played at the other end of the country, good thread

Thats rich coming from someone with the words Blackpool Mecca as his avatar, why didn't you just use the words "Gay Disco" instead?

p.s. the Dennis D'Ell is there because it's a very, very rare record on issue, not because of it's musical merits. It's a good version though.

Yeah, it's OK for a Brit cabaret singer I guess! laugh.gif

Found a copy for 10p in Notting Hill Record & Tape Exchange before they got wise LOL.

And any "Gay Disco" which plays the likes of Maurice Williams, Robbie Lawson, Eula Cooper, the Inspirations, James Fountain and the Carstairs is fine by me!

Mark, the Norma Lewis was a big Beach 45 back in 90's. It's on UK but have forgotten label. I think other side was something like "Maybe next time". Could even have come out twice with some kinda re-mix. Had around 200 that I got from that place in Telford that used to do a 45 catalogue and took them all to Carolinas where it took off big-style.

What's the "Queen City" label then? USA? Didn't think it had a release over there other than most likely booted for Beach scene.

Close Rod, it was "Maybe This Time".

UK ERC label.

Came out on US Queen City 56545 on the flip of Oakland Stroke "You Just Fall Down" in 1975.

Thanks for info guys. I just had a listen to refresh my memory. It is what I figured it was and maybe you shoulda covered it as Bobbie Jean "Bland" !!

I mean really no offence but I was swapping these for Northern 45s at the time and whilst I have a soft spot for Beach Music from being involved with it for some years I think they're so mechanical and usually less than exciting.

Last time I was in a Beach club the dj was playing off a laptop, which kinda added insult to injury.

Yeah Mark, Im not knocking the record cos it does bring back memories, mainly of getting good 45s for it!!

It's just odd that stuff like this and "Pour your little...", "See you when I get there", "Party time man", "Integrity", Gayle Adams and others were all popular back then over there and have all been taken up over here in past few years.

Although it would take too long to explain here the Northern scene has followed a similar trajectory to that of Beach Music.

Musically Mark and I are polls apart, I always think he plays more Northern and I play more soul records...if you know what i mean!?

In saying that, time and time again Mark posts playlists that are completely different to the top 100 tunes many people post on here. You have to give the guy credit for playing something different, weather you like it or not.

The tunes i do know i dont like to be honest but at least its something different.

Good luck to you mate.
