Good Thread, don't think so Dave, in our scene it make's no difference what so ever, i'm 58 and i've got very good friend's (soulies) age of 21 who run an alnighter, but I don't think that happen's anywhere else in the music scene........not like the extent of what the northern & r&b folk's do. I might be wrong tho. Willie Edited July 5, 2008 by Soulgrit

We attended Sean,s party on Saturday. But,during the afternoon a few of us "met up" for a coffee before we got down to some serious booze............... Round the table were : Terry Jones...Clarky....Bob Jeffries + Mrs Jeffries......Massey.....Alison and hubby......simon W......Me the bride and 2 others....and ofcourse Sean, all talking soul music. What struck me was the way Sean more than held is own in this conversation, even to point were you think "how the bloody ell does he know that" So in conclusion the answer must be NO age is not a problem, and even some of us older geeks can learn from the younger crowd (50 as we speak). But at 21 he is my youngest mate.

He dedicated all of his teens to learning about soul music. Shame they didn't have a GCSE or A Level in it because he'd have walked it!. LOL. Jayne.x.

You see us young ens have to be even more nerdy than the old ens...because we weren't there when it was happening...haha...
Guest Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I,m 52 and I know 21 is young to be on the scene, but Sean has been doing the rounds for the last few years. Even DJing at Bury and Lowton and his show on Starport radio. Carefull... he'll be wanting a payrise... It's true though. He got his residency with us because he's always been so passionate about soul music, whether it's 60t's northern, motown or modern. He's got a great ear for good record and as long as I remember, he's always bought OVO too. Not easy when you're a student and not earning. Such a shame his age plays against him on this scene. Sean was absolutely made up on saturday night. (The support brought him to tears!) He had a great time with friends of all ages. He was chuffed to bits to see Dave Lucas. Dave came all the way up the M6, popped in for a bit and then hot footed it to Lin Taylor's birthday night down in Birmingham, he really is a star. See you all at Roman's 60th!.. (Another star of the scene) Jayne.x.

Aah yes and apparently it'll never be like it was back then ever again! I do love hearing stories from the 'more mature' soulies about the scene back then. Seems like they were all bloomin' mental!

Seems like they were all bloomin' mental! yeh!. and the number of chemists that were done over in Manc before the T.Wheel (if you hear the stories!)..sneaking to the Wheel or the Casino and not telling parents what they were upto, taking god knows what and wandering around various towns waiting for it to wear off.... and they moan about the youth of today!!.. Yes in the Airfix modellers club, we have members as young as 10 and as 'young' as 82. It's a real joy to see these people talking and sharing their experiences with each other. Of course the older modellers tend to go for "their era" mostly WW II stuff or prop airliners whilst the young kids will do F-16's or even more modern stuff. I'm told (by my Aunties, nextdoor neighbours best friends cousin) that S & M particpants can be from 16 to 60 quite easily.......allegedly.............. Chris L

Chris L Yeah, that's all right for you to say as an established member of the club! However, I turned up last week with a Humbrol Fokke Wolfe kit and I was met with a very hostile reaction on account of "Humbrol are later issues and therefore not acceptable!" With that I was shown the door! Such snobbery eh?
