Guest soultan Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 so is the four vandals a modern track?, only i thought i was a 60's newie. does that make it a crossover track now?
Guest Modern Skip Tone Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 'Cos he's a serious bloke! I realised his natural genius when he played a live mix of Serious Intention's "You Don't Know - Remix" and mixed "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" all the way throughout the long intro and came in beat perfect @ the sweet spot! His gig's were always rockin'! Where did you catch him Jocko? Were you living down South in the mid-late 80's? Oh, yeah, I'm digging out those 10 Northern/Modern tracks to post, so that'll be tomorrow 'cos I'm prepping the Sunday's radio show, OK? But I'm also having to go through the DJ International catalogue for a 3CD 'best-of' so I'm immersed in House this week LOL... So any hidden killers on DJ International folks? I've found a few already........... And 'Trouble's' great! He did Classic House Mastercuts 2 which I'm now gonna play for inspiration! Ian D Agree with you on Paul "trouble" Anderson, Ian......but also Bobby and Stevie played a nice soulfuller sound in their sets, up there with the best of em, those two. But the experts labelled this Garage!!!! Soulfull modern soul to me .

Guest Brett F Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 This forum just goes round and round in circles ! I bet i could dive in at any time in the last 5/6 years and find the same 4 or 5 core topics and see the same old arguments time and time again. I don't really care what year a record was made, if i like it then thats good enough for me. Period. Totally bored with the lot of it. Don't they have that grey face icon thing anymore................Typical. Brett

Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 i just see modern soul as music made 1970 onwards as a way of moving forward into soul music, sounds that are like Northern soul oldies but with modern feel to it and certainly as many say Blackpool Mecca sounds when dj's there started playing new releases. and there are so many artists who have contributed to what is a Modern record that given accross the board soul nights you can be finding it strange that something like Fascinations, The Majestics, Dean Parrish or whoever can be played alongside Sister Sledge, Kenny Thomas even R Kelly and so on.
