Hello!

Did anyone see either GMTV or the BBC equivalent this morning when it was talking about THE (open to interpretation!) new place to go for Northern etc? I was getting ready for work at the time and only caught snippets....

Basically, there was a very bizarre looking woman in the studio wearing a rather large and ridiculous hat who played "boogie woogie" at some night which I assume is in London. Her daughter (sat with her) is apparantly a Northern DJ at the night.....

I just wondered if anyone actually caught any details of the place in question....?

The best thing about the bits that I saw were when the embarassingly straight presenters offered tips about "we'll come down and do a bit of scratching" and then moved their hands around in a mashed-potato fashion....

Oh well, I'll be avoiding that place like the plague then!!!! I'll stick to the 100 Club.... real people who are into the music for life, not just 10 minutes....

We have people like Amy Winehouse being the 'definitive' Northern Soul act to look forward to, rather like Usher or Girls Aloud are (ahem) RnB

Usual soul source snobbery/misinformation. Wasn't advertised as a northern night at all. The venue is a "generational/family club" where 18-90 year olds can all have a good time together. The music policy was mainly sixties soul withg some northern/boogie woogie (just erxamples) thrown in.

And its not a gay night either, although the club its held in is a gay venue.

( Can you imagine old people dancing to music btw. They must be really strange people :D )

I've seen that Molly Parkin scurrying around in the comtemporary fashion floor at Liberty. She does indeed look a little like Boy George. But 10 out of 10 for still dressing up and not giving up at a grand old age (make up is a little cloggy though because of the wrinkles). :D

Think the format was Molly, her daughter and her grandaughter all DJing different eras and genres of music. I've always liked Molly for her individuality and enthusiasm and I say good luck to her.

Aahhh I see... to be honest I've never heard of Molly, but I thought she must be a "name" to get on TV and discuss her subject.

So, it was more of a family thing where all ages are welcomed.... I don't see that as a bad thing at all to be honest. When "Boy George lookalikes" were mentioned I got the horrors of some Shoreditch-like event.... all funny hair and yellow stilletoes ;-)
