Never been one for e-bay but the last cuple of weeks ive been watching to see what things go for, just put a thread up about mel britt, with seven days to go 7 bids and nearly $1100.00 is there any point bidding this early on a record thats obviously gonna take off in the final few days if not hours? or am i missing something here

The problem on eBay with such records as MB , is that the feeding - sorry - bidding frenzy towards the end of the auction , will go ballistic , with any bids guaranteed to be sniped at the vinegar stroke .........

One of the sad facts of life about eBay is , that a lot of the " bidding " that goes on with known / big titles , will be from / by

" chums " of the seller , working for / on behalf of their mate , in order to push the price up for them ........

They talk of The Illumimati working in business circles ; it pails against the dealings on eBay .........

maybe everyone should be made to use a snipe tool, no stupid bidding days before it ends that way.

I have & do on occasions put in early bids

the key is to just put in your top bid if you win it fair enough if it goes for a higher and in many cases a lot higher, well thats just tough, it avoids any bidding war you may find yourself in, and believe me I have won a great number of items when I have bid early, not in the MB league of course

I do like early bids on items, its a bit of catch 22 really

It would be nice if the snipes could be taken out of the equation

and maybe introduce something which allows the seller to end the item at any time in the last hour, the buyers would be aware of this, and then maybe many would bid and not take a chance on losing out or waiting till the last few seconds, I think that might make things a bit more interesting.

Ebay isn't a proper auction really, cos in a proper auction people keep bidding until no one bids any more then the hammer falls.

I'm a sniper myself I'm afraid, advantages; low start records get lost in the thousands if no one bids so you sometimes get stuff cheap, you don't get bid up to your maximum by the sellers mates, if it goes silly your snipe bid doesn't hit and you don't get caught up in the frenzy. Also you used to be able to see all items someone was bidding on so if you found something cheap and bid everyone else knew who had bid.

Ebay hiding bidders identities has just helped those sellers who get their mates to bid stuff up, it is in eBay's interests after all as they make more money.

Early bidding has its advantages in that you can put your top bid in then forget it, if you win great if not no worries. But the strange thing is that some people will bid on something just because it has a bid on it whereas something with no bids can stay that way even if it is cheap.

These days if I "win" anything cheap I always reckon I've just bought No 1 of a 100 count box

yeh can understand the early bid cenario on some stuff but not on items like these,$1100.00 with seven days to go and seven bids, think its as malc says mates hyping up the sale

i bid when i see the item and put in what im prepared to pay , if i get out bid then i can go looking for another item insted of waiting a week till the end of the auction and then finding i didnt win it

I only put in an early bid if I know I'll be away and need to bid in the final stages on my mobile. If I'm watching a few items but only one or two are due to end this just makes them quicker and easier to get to using my phone.

I'd rather not snipe 'cos it takes the fun out of it, plus I'd end up being skint all of the time instead of just some of the time.

Interesting view Malc but "Shrill" bidding as it is known is a well known cardinal sin to the people at Ebay towers.

Clever dickies, on such items receiving mucho interest they install "cookies" to observe any indiscetions.

And in the event that such activity is identified they finish the auction immediatly and suspend the member/s, normally from a twined Hemp rope. "Chums" understandably seem to dissappear when this is encountered.

Would'nt have thought Mr Brittland's efforts would have needed any trotting on, certainly a Classic that vanished long, long ago and as rare as a opened silver polish tin at Hillsborough

Anyway, Should imagine the old trout selling it will be pleasantly suprised especially with 82 watching it at moment, who ever he is " i woke up early this morning and went looking out for my love......

They don't come much better.

If you have a max price to bid, why not put it on early, I've won many a record this way, sometimes it put's others off, at the end of the day if your top bid is $1000 or $100 does it really matter when it goes on.

How do you know 28 people are watching, surely its 28 views?.

I often wonder if I put say a 100 bid on a record and it sells for 250 if I had not put my bid on what would the price be lower?? even if 6 bidders are bidding
