Sadly PY is now on 'permanent vacation' as far as Smooth Radio goes. A cost cutting exercise, apparently - much cheaper for the station to have Andy Peebles (pre recorded) show go out down here at the same time that it goes out in the North, which is all they care about of course. He's not too downhearted about it - in fact, he's quite pleased and surprised that he lasted as long as he did without some bean counter noticing his name on the payroll! He's still on Solar of course...

Well I'm missing him too, but last week was his last show on Smooth FM the good news is that he will be on Solar Radio from 6 - 8.00pm Sundays , also check out www.soulwalking.co.uk for PY updates.
Roger Williams Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 the good news is that he will be on Solar Radio from 6 - 8.00pm Sundays He's on tomorrow but he's only part of a rota of DJ's in that weekly slot alongside Ralph Tee, Geoff Bingham, myself, Paul Clifford and the occasional extra guest, he's not on every week. He's still on Solar of course... Andy Peebles sold all his vinyl to "save space"...his show is awful like the rest of Smooth with the exception of a few hours on a Saturday night when Richard S and Mike Stevens are on. The playlist has got more MOR over the lst couple of years-you used to be guaranteed that you'd hear a few decent tracks per hour-Spinners, a bit of half decent motown, abit of 80s Luther and the like, the odd nice philly record but now they're squeezed in between Queen, savage Garden and I promise you I''m not lying PHIL COLLINS!! I emailed them to complain as in work it's the station of choice and I got a patronising standard email back saying that "everybody else likes the new format"....... Edited June 15, 2008 by reg

Mike Stephens isn't on Smooth, he never has been has he? The only two soul DJ's left on the roster at Smooth now are Andy Peebles and Richard Searling, the rest have been binned off. I believe Peter Young will now have a regular show on Solar between 2pm and 4pm each Sunday, so that's good news for his followers. Roger

Guest Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Im pretty sure he used to be on after Richard on a Saturday night Roger-at least on 100.4 anyway..maybe not London. Or I'm going mad.... good news m'dear - I think you're as mad as the rest of us!.. You're not thinking of Mike's show on ALL FM are you? sunday nights but the same time?.. I thought Steve Collins (?) did a show himself on a saturday night after Richard... I had quite a disagreement with the guys at smooth a good couple of years ago when we were advertising with them around the time when they were first bought out. Their policy was clearly to go more commerical and they didn't care if they binned off their specialist shows with smaller listenerships. They did the same with all the Jazz shows. They seem to believe its a step forward and they're competing with the big boys. Just a load of tosh!. I hope it goes t*ts up for them and Richard moves to a better station!. If it wasn't for Richard, I'd never listen to smooth - galaxy plays more soul these days. Reg: Try 106.1fm Manchester's best new station! LOL.. I love it but I'll be stunned if you agree. Jayne.x.

Guest paulf Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Sadly PY is now on 'permanent vacation' as far as Smooth Radio goes. He's still on Solar of course... I know this thread got started a while back but I am now really hacked off listening to Andy Peebles. His show just feels manufacturered and actually lacks soul (sorry mate) - so much for cheaper pre-recording. You pay peanuts, you get half-baked radio shows. They might as well stick Smooth on MW, its as useful as a shipping broadcast in Sauf London. Bring back PY. Its coming up to the time of the year when he would put together his special holiday sets. There was always a buzz with PYs show and his deadpan Frankie Howard style one liners. I remember how pleased I was to get PY to DJ at a few dos I put on with Keb and Soul Sam. Now there was a line up. What with Beanos finally shutting down, London is losing some of its final underground landmarks. PY should be a listed monument, along with parts of Surrey St Market. If they can give plaudits to Norman Jay, then why not PY. Arise Lord Pete of Pease Pottage A Londoner in mourning...
