Since joining this fabulous forum I have regularly seen mentioned soul packs and how people got great records for little money so many years ago. Having never purchased a soul pack before I have a few questions.

  1. Do record dealers still sell soul packs?
  2. If they do is it just a way of shifting crap records that aren't worth a light?
  3. Has anyone bought any recently and if so, any good tunes in them?

I bought a couple on buy it now on ebay one night as i always wondered.... they was crap...and all rubbish.. the person selling them used thier poetic licence to the full.... they never done any thing wrong but they was all the stuff that the seller couldn't sell and the records there wouldn't even grow on you.. I am quite open minded with soul as well..

tell you you my get one good record so you may as well just buy the one good record you wnt in the begining...

Hi,

I bought a 70s soul pack for £25 many years ago, and a lot were demos.

At the time, thought many were not very good.

But over the years, having replayed them, I find I am liking more than I did before.

So in answer to your question, some are crap and always will be , but as tastes have changed over the years, the others become nice records. And some have appeared on dealers list at more than I paid for the whole lot.

The soul packs in the seventies included lots of classic soul ie Carl Carlton "Competition Aint Nothin" n the likes, but also stuff not played on the scene at the time. Some of em are now being played or are worth somat now. Examples being George Wydell "Funny Feeling" and Jack Montgomery "Baby Take a Chance on Me" on Revue. Also, Yvonne Baker "I Cant Change" on Junior was one of them.

The packs then had good records in em, but ya did not know at the time that some of em would be rare in the future.

Don't think you would have the same luck now as people av more knowledge, but who knows........
