El Corol Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Curtis - How can I tell her - US 45 Charm City #1932 ONLY please NOT #1879 Usual going rate paid OR good trades given Cheers Steve I'm gonna show my ignorance here Steve.....especially as I bought this back around 81/82 ish when it was a big sound (and bloody expensive at the time around £20.....especially considering how many turned up!!) but whats the difference between the issue numbers? (have to check what number my issue is when I get home from work??) is one a 12"? Cheers Rob

Sebastian Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 (edited) Have to say although the boing boing synth drums may sound a little dated to some, that was part of the initial excitement on the record........especially on the intro and the break..........aaaaahhhh Clifton Hall. As this record fell out of favour I never really took much notice of it again, only at home now and then, didn't even realise it was a different take........hey you learn everyday. I like the second take on it and can imagine if I heard that first it would be my preference, but I'm staying loyal to the synth drum What was all that about a yellow label mentioned earlier As a dancefloor tune, I much prefer the "boing boing" version as well. It has got much more "oomph" and power when played loud. As for home playing I'll probably go with the other version, but mainly because I've heard the 1879 version a whole lot more and it's nice with a change. I've never seen it on a yellow label and the mention of it existing above was the first I've ever seen. Edited June 11, 2008 by Sebastian
Steve Plumb Posted June 11, 2008 Author Posted June 11, 2008 Yep Seb is right - same colour label different time and # Slightly different mix Has anyone got a copy for sale please - going rate paid or good trades waiting Cheers Steve
Cunnie Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Yep Seb is right - same colour label different time and # Slightly different mix Has anyone got a copy for sale please - going rate paid or good trades waiting Cheers Steve Been after the 1932 version as well for a while Steve with no joy As for the going rate what's a 1932 fetching? Also legend has it Dave Thorley had several copies & didn't realise until after they had all been sold. Where is Dave when you need him.
pikeys dog Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Even with the nasty disco boo-boo noises - the first copy pisses all over the later issue in the sense of being a better 'club' record. Still shit though.

Also legend has it Dave Thorley had several copies & didn't realise until after they had all been sold. Where is Dave when you need him. I'm sure Mr Thorley will be down right gutted! I choose to use 'going rate' cos i'm fed up with folks asking for wants and not wanting to pay anything for them! If you're in the wants section imho by default, you should be willing to pay 'going rate' (if not more!) for whatever it is you're after. Oops, just realised i haven't answered yer question Come on someone must have one! Especially as a few on here have dissed it as not being as good as the original. Who's going to sell me the inferior #1932 at the 'going rate' (if not more) Cheers Steve

Guest Modern Skip Tone Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Thanks Steve, for alerting us to this, and I for one have been totally unaware when trading or flicking through record sales boxes of the slightly different takes on this tune. I am sure many others have, but didnt know. But that's the the calibre of the knowledgable members of soul source, well done Steve. .....phew that was easy and no effing and jeffing. SwiftNick.
Simsy Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Got one now thanks :-) Moving to Box section for any further discussions.

Here I am, yes there was a feeding frenzy when I listed it, got about 10 copies out of the back of a store in the deep south. Must have sold all in 3 days!!!!. One of the buyers phoned me a couple of days later just to rub it in, oh how we (he) laughed.
