The Ben Brown is Indiana, he was one of the owners of the label. The del chontays is a PA steeltown and is not indiana. I have at least one other gordon keith 45 on the label. I have never seen that 3rd jackson 5, only seen it on musicor, I would be surprised if it was on steeltown. I can check the correct b-side of that gordon keith when I get home.

There's a Valiants listed too HERE

I've never seen that, it would be cool to know if it existed. The Valiants on Destination is a Gary group, it included Delroy Bridgeman, who was previously in the Senators on Abner, the Mellotones on Steeltown, Kenneth and Delroy on Steeltown, and the World Column on Tower / Atco.

There's also the nice funky crossover tune backed with a sweet soul tune by Errol Gaye and the Imaginations.

Steeltown Cleveland 92539/40 Errol Gaye & the Imaginations "Love And Affection/ You Don't Want My Love".

THe kenneth and delroy is not that hard, it also got mispressed as kenneth and delory (ro's reversed). Maybe that was also in the variation you were talking about. I was talking about the valiants 45, I don't know if that exists on steeltown.

Yeah, there are at least a few different Steeltown labels, so it does get confusing. Jason from Indiana45s was never sure about that Del Chontays Steeltown being the Gary, IN Steeltown. Boba it sounds like you are certain that Del Chontays is NOT the Gary, IN Steeltown. I'll make sure and tell Jason.

And yes as Boba said, the Ben Brown is definitely the Gary, IN Steeltown. Ben Brown co-founded the label. And the copy that's up on ebay literally came out of the rubble of his long abandoned record store in Gary.

The Kenneth & Delroy *is* pretty common.

CheltSoulNights: Did you say you have a copy of:

684 - The Jackson Five - You Don't Have To Be 21 / Some Girls Want Me For A Lover - 1968

for sale? If so, where is your site, I would like to purcahse this.

Also, does anybody here have a copy of the Mellotones on Steeltown for sale? Boba, you got this?

I have the mellotones but not for sale. I can post a sound clip here if you want. "Lonely man" was done by 3 gary groups: the versatiles on staff (which included Mel Britt), the Mellotones, and the Fabulous Traits (no connection to the Chicago traits). The del chontays was on Dennis Brennan's harrisburg CD, he can confirm for you that it's a PA steeltown (I think the same label that had the cordells).

I've heard the Mellotones on Jason's site. Lonely Man sounds like the exact same backing track as the Versatiles.

And dude, you answered another question of mine. I keep talking to different people who have found the Mel Britt record in Gary and was beginning to think that Mel Britt was a Gary dude. I guess that is confirmed!

Lonely man isn't the exactly the same backing track I don't think, I would have to dig them out to check. Mel Britt wasn't exactly Gary, I think he was originally from Anderson, IN, and also lived in East Chicago and surrounding areas. I think the Versatiles were based in East Chicago. He lives in Michigan City now. FIPi was also south chicago and had Gary connections, Gorden Keith told me he worked for the label for a while.

The Steeltown with Errol Gay and the Imaginations, plus The Entertains on is from Pittsburgh. This label was owed by the same guy that was also half owner of Worlds records in New york with Johnny Worlds. Both are much underated modern soul dancers you can pick up for about £15

Dante's webpage says cleveland:

I see it says "jeree" even on his label scan so maybe he's wrong, I will ask him what he knows about that. Thanks.

I must correct myself....I did not sell it (luckily) and after finding it in my sales box I had a nother listen to it...especially the flipside (part 2 of said track ) is not bad :wicked: with a fantatsic sax work which sounds as if Mike Terry was on a short visit in Indiana and tried to record his own versioon of "Midnight Brew" :D

The second title is from 1981, I doubt it was released as the flip of an early 70s record.
