June 6, 200817 yr I am at a loss as to why he's selling some of these titles - things like Liz Lands Don't Shut Me Out are only worth a tenner on original. He obviously has invested in a cutter and is doing one offs of every track on his CD collection...first lot all from Scepter Wand and so on
June 6, 200817 yr https://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZvinylrecordcutting He says they are re-issues. Who's re-issuing 'em? Kent, Septer/Wand? I think not!
June 6, 200817 yr Certainly not Kent - nor King records, the owners of Scepter-Wand records, who I've just tipped off about this blatant bootlegger....
June 6, 200817 yr Reported he or she to e-bay for blatant bootlegging, And if more than one person does it they may listen Steve
June 6, 200817 yr Wonder how much he would do the full set for I need some new ash trays....lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.

He's made the mistake of trying to sell at least one record that Ace owns the master rights to (the Olympics) and we certainly haven't licensed it out for 45 rpm 'reissue'. If eBay ignores my report, Ace will pursue the situation further, but please, in the meantime, if anyone feels like following Steve's and my lead, I'd urge you to do so and as soon as you can...

June 6, 200817 yr Author StevieNoWonder said: Reported he or she to e-bay for blatant bootlegging, And if more than one person does it they may listen Steve Done it before I even put the post up. Trouble is, reporting the items results in an email saying that ebay will investigate usually within 48 hrs. Well, the weekend is about here and most of his sales have only 2-3 days to go, so I reckon he's gonna get to sell a few at least. -Kev.
June 6, 200817 yr Has anything ever happened to the various bootlegging activites that we've discussed on here in the last year or so? Rich
June 6, 200817 yr Every one of his auctions has a bid on..... strange that, eh? Wonder how much the bidder has stuck on them? Bet it's a fair bit for these rare items.

Well I'm watching his first and last sale to see if anything comes of the numerous reports that have gone in to ebay. -Kev.
June 6, 200817 yr All depends on whether thay are genuine bids, and if the winning bidder will pay up..... LOL

June 6, 200817 yr nusha said: Are nt these titles all from the same CD.I think it was called Soul Allnighter?????? it would be amusing to know if all the tracks on the actual CD were legitimately licensed. It's funny how adamant people here get about one-off or small-press vinyl bootlegs when it seems like CD bootleg compilations (even professionally packed ones) are all over the UK and probably bought and sold by at least some of the people complaining about vinyl boots. I don't endorse either type of bootlegging, I just think it's funny. Those CD comps involve more profit and ripping people off more than most vinyl boots.

I don't endorse either type of bootlegging, I just think it's funny. Those CD comps involve more profit and ripping people off more than most vinyl boots. The legitimately licensed aspect aside, the illegal pirating of CD's and DVD's is undoubtedly big business and is performed on a massive scale. Spotting counterfeit CD's is beyond me and I would guess the vast majority who may read this. Vinyl however is the life blood of this scene and therefore where the expertise and passion lies - at least amongst the vast majority of members on this site. Wouldn't condone either though. -Kev.
June 6, 200817 yr bootleg cds seems no ones really bothered i did put up info on here about the ric tic and goldern world cds . they said made in thialand but more like england. i was questioned "how do you know that we have not liscened the tracks"! carnt mention names as to who i think had done them as no doubt i would get a letter and get sued. had a reply off ebay saying they would look into the above seller. anyway whos doing the look a like boots ?

Couple of months ago I had 6 items removed as someone complained that I'd put I accept cash at payers risk, alongside usual paypal and cheque. 100% positive feedback, no warning, no notice, all with bids on. I'm surprised, actually, because I know how difficult it is to license tracks for a compilation that is not of the same source, and know that most 'allnighter' type cds I see imported, no matter how professionally packed, are probably bootlegs. in the US we have the same problem with sweet soul CDs... it used to just be local people's CD-Rs in mom and pop stores, but there are a few more professionally done and distributed ones, mainly coming out of LA.
June 7, 200817 yr Why would anyone bother booting Ultra High Frequency 'Right Track' or Al Wilson 'Touch & Go' - both easily available for under a fiver....

June 7, 200817 yr Adrian said: Why would anyone bother booting Ultra High Frequency 'Right Track' or Al Wilson 'Touch & Go' - both easily available for under a fiver.... I'm betting that he hasn't actually 'carved' any of these 45s yet, and won't do so until he gets a winner on anything. If he's got a vinyl cutter he doesn't actually have to do anything in advance, does he? He's probably just being speculative, in the hope that some mug won't realise that there's no demand for these and some of his other titles, and dive in with a bid anyway. But whether he's cut them yet or not, the intent to sell bootlegs is still there and thus he deserves a good kicking....
June 7, 200817 yr Author pikeys dog said: only 36 items up for sale now... there were 40... what's happened there then? Dunno, but I did initially report 4 as individual items before I started this thread, and then went on to report the others in multiples once I realised that you could. So just maybe Ebay are acting on the initial reports and the rest will follow later. That would be nice, though why they don't just take the lot off instantly is beyond me. -Kev

June 7, 200817 yr On the subject of the Ric Tic, Golden World CD's - I was told that the licensing laws in Thailand were different and so they are technically not bootlegs? Any comments or am I just being naive? They have now produced a load more - Guys of Golden World, Girls of Golden World, Ric Tic Volume 2, a Cameo Parkway and a couple of others. Always available at the Toronto Record Shows and in a certain store on Queen Street, Toronto. I have to be honest and say I have bought the 2 Ric Tic ones so far.

Any comments or am I just being naive? The licensing laws in Thailand are different. Why do you think that the bootlegger has put 'made in Thailand' on the back of a CD that was made in Toronto? Any cnut who can spell 'Thailand' can stick it on a CD, can't they? As our amphibious friend says, this has been discussed before. To recap, these CDs (and others on the 'label'): 1) are all from labels that legit reissue imprints like Ace have been trying to license for years, to no avail. But that doesn't give the bootlegger the right to issue illegal CDs just because the copyright owners don't want to deal. 2) carry no label copy that proves their legitimacy e.g. "licensed from Ray Charles Enterprises" (Tangerine) or 'licensed from ABKCO Music" (Cameo) 3) carry no writer/publisher credits - a must, if you intend to pay publisher royalties to MCPS (or BMI, ASCAP, SESAC or SOCAN etc...) 4) have poor artwork and non-existent 'booklets' that immediately give them away as boots. 5) are all dubbed from disc, often very badly. So to sum up, they are bootlegs - 'technically' or otherwise...

June 8, 200817 yr these cds where/are advertised on the net by a well known distrubting company how can they get away with doing this
June 8, 200817 yr boba said: even if they were not bootlegs, that would not mean that they were licensed for distribution to the UK or US. Many legitimately licensed UK reissues still aren't licensed for distribution to the US for example. That's quite right - Ace was, for example, never allowed to sell Stax/Fantasy/Prestige CDs outside of the UK and Eire when we had those catalogues, and we had to place certain restrictions on wholesalers to make sure that they didn't overstep the mark. It hurt our sales quite badly, but we knew that it was a dealbreaker, so we stuck rigidly to it. An agreement is an agreement, after all... ..something that bootleggers could care less about, of course.
June 8, 200817 yr Down to 35 items now - eBay are slowly responding to the complaints.... Got a rather pleasant message off the seller, about contacting him via e-mail outside of eBay.
