Guest Rob_Sevier Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 https://cgi.ebay.com/The-Marlynns-I-Need-Ti...1QQcmdZViewItem In case anyone was thinking about bidding on this, it's a fraud. It's a current pressing of an old recording, and actually is the Marlynns, but is not an unknown, vintage pressing as the seller implies. Further, it is an illegal pressing and no members of the Marlynns will receive anything for this. There is some evidence of the seller's duplicitousness in this closed auction which seems to present a different account of the source: https://cgi.ebay.com/The-Marlynns-I-Need-Ti...1QQcmdZViewItem
Pete S Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 That one and especially the Tower one sound just like Smokey Robinson don't they. Nice.

The seller was very vague in his reply which immediately set the alarm bells ringing! Great track though, anyone got an original for sale?
Guest Rob_Sevier Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Great track though, anyone got an original for sale? There is no original, it is an unreleased track off master tapes now pressed for the first time.
vaultofsouler Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I emailed the seller about this record as the font looked a bit suspect to me. The seller was very vague in his reply which immediately set the alarm bells ringing! Reckon the low feedback and the fact "lovelydisc" and "shytownsaint" appear to having something going on would "set alarm bells ringing" as you say.... Plus current high bidder seems to be "getting in on the act" .... manage et trois .... Is this one of those where SS'ers should get bidding indiscriminately to try and get a point across ....
boba Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 That one and especially the Tower one sound just like Smokey Robinson don't they. Nice. I agree... except it's a woman singing
Guest Rob_Sevier Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Plus, how often does a vintage 45 simply say "promo copy" on it? This bootlegger doesn't have a clue.
Guest Rob_Sevier Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Is this one of those where SS'ers should get bidding indiscriminately to try and get a point across .... SS'ers on eBay should report the item as counterfeit. If enough different people do it, I imagine the listing will get dropped.
Harrogatesoul Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) SS'ers on eBay should report the item as counterfeit. If enough different people do it, I imagine the listing will get dropped. Only if it's a 'Promotional Copy - Not For Sale' they might . Seriously tho' ebay allow so many boots/illegal pressings I doubt anything would happen unless the rights owners themselves complained. May be wrong but I've flagged up some bits in the past (when I've been in that kind of mood) and never heard a jot back. Is the seller any way connected to the recording? (Sorry just read rest of his post - Said he had the recording is hisstudio.....????) ** Actually just looked at his completed items and he ended the item before early 'due to a listing error' Original price was $49.99 ** Some error -'Yeah I was 200 bucks off the start price of this bootleg! Understand where your coming from Rob but not half as much fun as "silly bidding" though.... plus, as Rich stated, ebay either know jack-sh*t or don't care most of the time when it comes to counterfeit/bootleg records going through their site.... after all it's still income for them from the listing and end value fees.... Now.... if the "price" starts to go daft through a few bidding "silly" on it then he/she would surely twig on that bidders were "wise" and remove it him/herself.... if not look at the final fees they'll have to stump up.... and, of course, not paying these will get them deregistered anyway....
Guest Rob_Sevier Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Understand where your coming from Rob but not half as much fun as "silly bidding" though.... Good call! It'll be great when the seller thinks he's had a sale, but the bid's as fake as the shill bidder he has on there now.
Stateside Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Anyone give me some details on their track "The very next time" I have it on a cd but would like to track it down on vinyl. How much does it go for? Cheers Kev
Pete S Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Anyone who is concerned about this - go to the bottom of the listing, you'll see a link to 'report item', follow the instructions then click on email and it sends ebay a report that it is a bootleg record.

Guest Rob_Sevier Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 >>END BID<< I see the auction ended very favourably for the seller........ Rich The winner is a fake bidder. Hopefully the second highest bidder has the good sense not to fall for the trick.
