No One Could Love You More- Gladys Knight & The Pips- Anyone Know The Specific Recording Date?

Some guy on Amazon.co.uk in a review for the This Is Northern Soul: The Motown Sound! claims that No One Could Love You More was recorded in the 60's, but was kept back for it's eventual release in the 70's. This is plausible, as Motown had lots of stuff in the vaults from Gladys they gradually released as soon as she'd left and hit the big time. If anyone can give a proper recording date that would solve this little riddle; I'm pretty sure it is a 70's track, but have never seen any reference to the recording date.

I would guess about 1967 or 1968 but I don't know for sure. She's left Motown by the 70s or stopped recording for them.

It was on the Standing Ovation LP which was released in December 1971. Was on the B Side to the TMG864, (released in 73), side, - Take Me In Your Arm And Love Me which was recorded in Jan '67 and and released in the same year a few months later in the US. It would seem strange not to have released the same B Side in '73 in UK which was Do You Love Me Just A Little Bit Honey. (Which is a '66 recording).

Obviously the the song was recorded well before 73. Maybe even in the 67/68 sessions that the group did. Having said that the group were certainly releasing records on the Soul label well into the '70s. I think '74 at least although whether they were new recordings or stuff already in the can I'm not sure as the group left Motown in '73. Would be good if someone had a definitive recording date for the track.

hello mate, the 'standing ovation' lp came out 71 and 'a little knight music' in 75 (i think)

should be able to pick up a clean copy of standing ovation for no more than about 20quid

The Take Me In Your Arms And Love Me 73 issue came in a run of reissues of classic hits. All of the others are as common as anything - my guess is that this didn't get distributed properly for one reason or another. I remember in the early 90's Mick Smith asking me if I'd got this, which I had, on a green and white demo, and he offered me something like £20 for it without me knowing it had been 'discovered' and was already 75 quid. He's good to me like that Mick is.
