Alan Pollard
Does anyone know or have any decent theories as to why Kim Weston's 'A little more love' on Tamla 54106 is so very very rare, I know and understand that lots of Tamla / Motown / Gordy etc singles are very rare but I would have thought this was a minor hit on it's release. Does anyone own it on here or even better has anyone got a scan of it. Regards Alan Link to comment Social source share

Harrogatesoul
Withdrawn? Sure someone will know. Might be worth posting on the Detroit Soul Forum Alan. Also on the UK EP TME 2005 & Stateside which makes the US release as you say rather hard to fathom out why its so rare? Best Rich Link to comment Social source share
Dave Moore
Hi Al, Could it be something to do with the flip, as "Go Ahead and Laugh" was released a short 4 #s later again. Is the "A Little More Love" the plug side or is IT the flip of "Go Ahead And Laugh"? (I can't confirm either way as I don't have one ) Maybe it was the plug side of Go Ahead And Laugh but was withdrawn in favour of "I'm Still Loving You". Alternatively, if "Go Ahead And Laugh" was the plug side why pull it and then re-release it 4 #s later? Here's the strange Recording/Matrix details: A Little More Love - Recording Date : 10 Dec 64 - Released 6 Nov 64 (in UK too) (How if the recording date was December?) Go Ahead And Laugh - Recording Date: 10 May 64 - Released 29 Jan 65 (Released in UK Stateside in Nov 64 though as flip to A Little More Love SS359) I'm Still Loving You - Recording Date: 9 Dec 64 - Released 29 Jan 65 There are two different mixes of Go Ahead And Laugh too just to complicate matters further. Once again I haven't heard the 54106 version so can't advise on the difference nor can I relate the matrix info to confirm that the mixes are actually different on the 45s. Looks like the songs were all recorded in a 24 hour period, two were selected for release. There must have been a change of heart and the first 45 - T54106 A Little More Love b/w Go Ahead And Laugh maybe got 'pulled" a remix of the "Go Ahead And Laugh" side was then released on T54010 as I'm Still Loving You b/w Go Ahead And Laugh. Bit of a strange one eh? But then this is Motown Baby........comes with the territory eh? Link to comment Social source share

Regards Alan Alan, just a thort... this came out Nov 64 and "I'm stll loving you" came out Jan 65, they both had her excellent version of "Go Ahead and laugh" on tother side, maybe Motwn pulled the plug on it to push "Im Still Loving You" ???? must admit it hard to get in any kind of good condition, been looking for years! steve Link to comment Social source share

Bit of a strange one eh? But then this is Motown Baby........comes with the territory eh? Hey up Dave, how goes it mate, the Hitsville Weekender is picking up speed now, will be an absolute cracker. Anyway back to Kim Weston like you say it is strange as there must have either some success or potential seen on it's American release because of the subsequent release in the UK and also an appearance on Ready Steady Go (I think) singing 'A little more love', here is a link for thode who would like to give it listen just copy and paste into your address bar. I take your point about the flip side being released on two issues but I think 'Go ahead and laugh' was the flip of both issues. The matrix info you come up with is really strange like you say how can it be released a month or so before it was recorded, a bit of a typo there, I will check my books to see if it throws any more light on it. Will email you later Dave infact will you send by email or personal message your phone number and I will give you a bell. Regards Alan Link to comment Social source share

Guest
Writers Mickey Stevenson & Sylvia Moy - perhaps one of 'em upset Berry Gordy and he had the song withdrawn to teach 'em a lesson! (Motown conspiracy theory No.1,277,890) Have heard a theory on this one which basically says that the numbers either side of this 45 were both big, big hits so in order to get as many copies of these two big selling titles out in the shops they simply stopped pressing the KW at a very early stage to free up capacity........of course I've only quickly scanned the thread so I might be thinking of the wrong record...it's late..I haven't slept!
