When i first got with my partner Rob...he absolutely hated the music...he told me in no uncertain terms that he wouldnt ever go to a soul do with me....when he realised that i seemed quite gleeful about that...he got very curious and wanted to find out about the music for himself...now...he spends more time on the dancefloor than me ...at first i was really glad...because it meant that i would be able to go out more and he could look after our Son ....because he knew that the soul scene wasnt like your chicago's type night out....but every freecking time i want to go somewhere ..he wants to come out with me...how selfish!!!!!! ... Guest WPaulVanDyk
I have friends who don't like Northern soul or wouldn't have a clue what it is but would know of some soul music. as for dad he would say his wife dosen't really know so much or is hardly into Northern soul. so i would say my mum knows obvious stuff like Tainted Love and some Motown and she is not a massive fan but likes a little ordinary soul. So at least we not all alone in that we have partners and friends who are not much into Link to comment Social source share

Guest Matt Male
My wife has no interest in the stuff we all listen to although she will get up at weddings and dance to M People and Candy Staton - Young Hearts Run Free (she'd probably love King's Go Forth). She refuses to come out with me, even local soul nights, because she says she can't bear the embarrassment of seeing me dancing... Having said that we were watching that ITV preview of their summer stuff with the California Soul music and she turned to me and said 'who did you say sang this again...?' Maybe there is hope after all. Link to comment Social source share

Drew3
I've contributed to a similar thread before and it's well posted that I live with a musical philistine, (I've had a pint or two this afternoon so I'm feeling dead brave)!!! She is into The Scissor Sisters, Prince and of course the music she grew up with, (a tad younger than me and she still loves the music of her pre-teens), God dam Glam Rock!!!! Hence, she is the Gary Glitter Fan!!!! Will occasionally come out to do's as long as there are other girlies to talk the hind legs off!! TGGF's not a bad dancer when the beat takes her!! However, she's corrupted our son who shouts "dads listening to his sad soul music again". KTF. Drew. Edited June 1, 2008 by Drew3 Link to comment Social source share
