When i first got with my partner Rob...he absolutely hated the music...he told me in no uncertain terms that he wouldnt ever go to a soul do with me....when he realised that i seemed quite gleeful about that...he got very curious and wanted to find out about the music for himself...now...he spends more time on the dancefloor than me  ...at first i was really glad...because it meant that i would be able to go out more and he could look after our Son :shades: ....because he knew that the soul scene wasnt like your chicago's type night out....but every freecking time i want to go somewhere ..he wants to come out with me...how selfish!!!!!! ... :P Delxxxx

I have friends who don't like Northern soul or wouldn't have a clue what it is but would know of some soul music.

as for dad he would say his wife dosen't really know so much or is hardly into Northern soul. so i would say my mum knows obvious stuff like Tainted Love and some Motown and she is not a massive fan but likes a little ordinary soul. So at least we not all alone in that we have partners and friends who are not much into

My wife has no interest in the stuff we all listen to although she will get up at weddings and dance to M People and Candy Staton - Young Hearts Run Free (she'd probably love King's Go Forth). She refuses to come out with me, even local soul nights, because she says she can't bear the embarrassment of seeing me dancing... :P

Having said that we were watching that ITV preview of their summer stuff with the California Soul music and she turned to me and said 'who did you say sang this again...?' Maybe there is hope after all.

Thats is not a problem if she respect your way of life... but the best is don´t tell never how money you spend in records...

PD: My baby thinks I pay 50 GBP by Ronnie Mcneir - Sittin in my class... :P

I've contributed to a similar thread before and it's well posted that I live with a musical philistine, (I've had a pint or two this afternoon so I'm feeling dead brave)!!!

She is into The Scissor Sisters, Prince and of course the music she grew up with, (a tad younger than me and she still loves the music of her pre-teens), God dam Glam Rock!!!!

Hence, she is the Gary Glitter Fan!!!!

Will occasionally come out to do's as long as there are other girlies to talk the hind legs off!! :P

TGGF's not a bad dancer when the beat takes her!! :D

However, she's corrupted our son who shouts "dads listening to his sad soul music again".

Ah, you've got it easy mate!. I know of one woman who eventually divorced her husband, one of the reasons sighted in the divorce petition was that "he is obsessed with Northern Soul"!

I went out with someone for 12 years who wasn't into the scene at all - very very difficult. I met someone (nearly a year ago) down the 100 club and our eyes met across a crowded dancefloor! I haven't looked back since lol! :)

Aw! wub.gif

I think it's probably a smidge easier if you're both into it but then if everybody was the same it'd be a very boring world!

As has been mentioned, no reason that things won't work out...as long as you keep how much you spend on vinyl under wraps! :)

I suppose it would be quite an achievement to keep it going with someone who's not as into anything as you are. This could apply to any hobby if you're

really into it to the same degree as many soulie's on here or that we know are into their northern.

My wife (a bit younger than me ) used to like 70's stuff when i dj'd early in our dating days and she showed some interest in the music, 6 years later she hates 60,s soul and hardly likes any modern stuff :) she thinks it is cheesy!! One time i dj'd and i could not see her anywhere in the crowd, after i finished i got a girlfriend to check the ladies and she was asleep in one of the cubicles, she said she was bored and went for a sleep.

my first wife hated the music & the scene [then again she hated everything] she agreed to go to an alldayer with me at scarborough, on the proviso i went to a night out of her music, managed to struggle through the alldayer, then the week after was taken to a wmc in york, where guess what? it was fookin country n western night, walked through the door a bloke dressed up like the milky bar kid greeted me with HOWDY PARDNER! n THEN SHOT ME WITH HIS CAP PISTOL, to wich i replied SEE YA`LL straight out the door :)

No, you are definately not the only one mate - my Mrs loves Motown, ska and reggae, and really, really well know NS, but as she puts it "I can't stand that shite that you like that no one's ever heard of!" (I was listening to a compilation at the time and the track playing was "If you ask me" Jerry Williams (I kid you not!!) - so I either go with my brother in law or sometimes on my "billy" to Soul Nights :)
