Brillo Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Anyone know any good soul nights or record shops in Las Vegas? I have to be there for a week in June (tough break!) Thanks, Brillo
Monique Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Never found any soul nights as such when we were there just happenned to see 'Billy Wade' at the Luxor one year. You can pick up a visitors guide in some of the hotels and they will list the entertaiment lounge acts etc. Jersy boys is on there which is the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. If you like their songs you might enjoy that. Just been to see the one in London. Some clips on Youtube.
Guest lagerlout Posted May 31, 2008 Posted May 31, 2008 Hope to be going to las vegas next year if the american embassy give me a visa..
Guest veep1296 Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Anyone know any good soul nights or record shops in Las Vegas? I have to be there for a week in June (tough break!) Thanks, Brillo We go to L Vegas fairly regularly and on a Monday evening you should try the Stratosphere. An open/free lounge on the Casino floor 10-2am. They have a soul, Motown R&B jam sesssion. Musicians and artists just turn up and play/sing. The show is hosted by Huck Daniels a guitarist from the Bay Area. He played on Rodger Collins "Shes Looking Good" i believe. We always enjoy it. Last time i met a gentleman called Wylie Trass after hed sung a couple of Blues numbers. I sang the first line of one of his old songs to him which astounded him! Google and see if you can pin the track down! There are lots of artists living there some of whom have become good friends to Janet & i. Let me know if you make it! Regards David
Tomangoes Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I saw Gladys Knight there in 2004, but it was a bit of a let down. Saw an add for a Ronny Milsap show (A N S L I T O S) in one of the lounges. Wasn't there a Northern Soul weekender there recently? It might have been advertised on here. If youve not been before, its a real treat, larger than life. Ed

Ed We too saw the Gladys show with a similar feeling...too short...no Motown songs. Last year we saw Elton John who was absolutely brill! (forgive me for i have sinned !) The weekender "The Vegas Shuffle " was about 3/4 years ago and never happened. we had booked and still went and had a great time with Mr & Mrs D Moore. If you like food there is plenty to choose from. Our favourites are Sensi @ Bellagio, Pearl @ MGM, try the Burger joint at Mandalay place...Kobe beef burgers !! We dont really gamble yet are never short of things to do. Regards David
Professorturnups Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 Hope to be going to las vegas next year if the american embassy give me a visa.. If your behaviour is as bad as that at the Norwich Alldayer a couple of years back I think that's a definite no! Having said that we would love to see you at the next one on July 12th!! See the Events ATB Mark C

Lou Ragland, Sonny Charles, Linda Griner, Bobby Patterson, Dean Courtney etc are all around town but will not be on the "main stages". A couple of visits ago we left as Brenda Holloway was appearing the night after. Gutted! John Smith organised a trip out there a number of years ago that featured a weekender but since then there's not been anything "Northern Soul' wise. As fra record shops, there are a couple but the only one of any note is Wax Tracks (Richie Rosen) but you'll need to take your own surgical instruments to remove the body parts to pay for anything! Gutted to have missed Mr Trass! We could have done the duet Dave! Here's the man himself...

Or cut your own throat rather than deal with the cantankerous b'stard.
Cheapsiderecords Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I was there in February, and as per the Cleveland post, was travelling with non-vinyl types. I wish I could find me some like minded Souls in the Toronto area to play with. I gave Richie Rosen a miss as it seemed like a waste of time according to all the posts on here but I did get to Record City, they have 3 stores in the town. The Sahara Ave store doesnt open on Sundays and has, apparently, all the rarities, guess which day I turned up!! The East Charleston Boulevard store has 1000's of 45's and I managed to turn up a couple of nice 80's 45's and a handful on Northern Oldies - I like to be able to but something where ever I go. Worth a visit if you have a couple of hours to spare but to be honest dont expect a great return on your time. If you get a chance do the Grand Canyon Helicopter trip - Fooking brilliant.
Mach Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Brillo, theres a couple on the strip 2 or 3 hundred yards past the stratosphere tower. but i would advise you to keep off the back steets and keep away from them parts after dark.
Brillo Posted June 19, 2008 Author Posted June 19, 2008 Thanks all for the tips - will def check the Stratosphere place next Monday and won't hold out too much hope of finding a mint Garnet Mimms for $5 then! Cheers
