Agree O'Jays not one of their best! and it healded the end of Gamble & Huff's excellent Neptune label but if ya flip it over ya get a very nice version of "Let Me In Your World"

still think it better then tother record tho imho

steve

Thanks for that Steve (Note to self: PLEASE remember to play 'b' sides) Agree the BG is not a great 45 or owt - Does sound better played out / very loud! Am sure there's more versions out there somewhere.

That's a good point Rich, there are records that sound great played out n loud and dont sound anything played at home! How many times do ya hear something in a venue and think I must get one of those, only to get a copy stick it on the deck at home and think Hmmmm!

Other version I was thinking of was Young Turks on Odyssey, dunno why I thort Neon??

Hi Steve

'Neon' is the flip of the Young Turks (just checked on Manship) funny how these things stick in the mind. There must be a whole slew of 45s that sound great played out and sound a bit duff at home. Remember hearing Rod Kings 'Dont Be Afraid' (SPACE) out once many years ago - Bought a copy took it home and... just didnt sound right at all. OK but not as good as what I heard played out!

If you dont like the records then dont listen to em,simple!!!!!!!!!!

I believe that everyone has a rite to their opinion but not to the point were there could be and most probably is a select few who think the records the best thing since sliced bread.

The way l look at it is that there are only 2 types of music, wether it be rock, soul, punk, classical, what ever it is that floats your boat, and that is GOOD music and KRAPP music, as individuals we all have our own views on our likes and dislikes and nobody has the god given rite to shove down another persons throat their personal views on what is GOOD or BAD, l come across this topic from SOUL! elitists all the while ,when l attend and D.J. in many venues up and down the country, in MY most Humble OPINION, these people are biggots and live in their own worlds of ignorance..............So what if it is a krapp record, and l can think of loads that l consider to be absolute shite, l wont give you a list , because l dont want to offend anyones taste in music, but l do feel stongly enough about this topic to actually dare to name just 2 that l would never consider buying in a million years let alone giving them any sort of credance buy playing them........Ike and Tina Turners Dust My Broom and Sidney Barns Standing on solid ground, to me they are f***in awful.

I've been on the Soul scene for 36 years and l can say with the utmost confidence that after all that time lve earned my apprentiship and with flying colours, and as for Pat Brady if he played it 20 odd years ago, then he would of seen the potential in the record, and in all the years that l went to venues and Pat was D.J.ing he always did a excellent spot, l never heard him play anything KRAPP, lve got a great deal of respect for Pat Brady he was awesome to say the least, if you were there at the time you would know what lm talking about and have more respect for other peoples views and feelings. If Pat did Play the Bros Grimm then he did so cus he could see that it filled the dance floor, l never saw him clear a dance floor not ever,so as far as lm concerned he did his job to perfection, can you say the same!!!!!!!!!!!

It was never my intention to get personal, but you started it, may be you should think more next time before you put yourself forward to make personal comments that could result in some true soulies just saying F**k it and stop coming to venues because of hurtful comment that should remain your own personal view.

I don't mind the Kittens version....even though it's the same track it seems like a completely different record to the other [Grimm] version.....

And Cookie has the right to say what she likes about this record as this is supposed to be a democratic place to air our views about the music we call Northern Soul. As Mr Bicknell says "whatever floats your boat"( sorry Mark I can't find a copyright symbol...)- it would be a dull world if we all kept tight lipped and said nowt wouldn't it!

Steady on there. You whooped everyone and then felt it necessary to go on a one man (woman) crusade in your very personal need to protect Pat Brady?

Fooking hell calm down. This is a nice place for people to exchange their views. There's no need for rabid - in my opinion, over the top replies. Just take it easy.

BTW - the record in question is crap - fooking awful. I don;t care who played it.

i think someone is missing the point here.......its a matter of opinion i detest the said record the other half likes it ...the point i was making is that he said it was massive and i've never heard it before......we both know pat brady very well and the reply about him being deaf was totally tongue in cheek as i am sure most people are aware...and pat himself would not take offence to it he's well used to my taking the piss....i meant no offence to anyone ( except my other half ) who is currently sitting on the naughty step with a dunces cap on until my wineglass needs re-filling.....

absolutely no need for abuse like that at all......lighten up fgs

See post #9 Chris..

Here's the Yum Yums REFOSOUL Clip: YUM YUMS VERSION - Still think the Kittens version is best. Yum Yums version rarest?

Rich

It's the official A-Side to "Gonna Be A Big Thing", so yes probably.

PS. The O'Jays' "Looky Looky" (with piano intro by Leon Huff) is an all-time classic from the early days of the Northern Soul scene still loved by thousands of people, me included. So there!

Hello, its me.....here's how i see it

1/ A debate is when someone airs a premise, and the others put across alternative views in order to offer an opposite and valid counter.

2/ Sandi appears to have been the voice of reason hear....its all down to personal taste,,,and not liking something does not give the right to put down those who do,,,,specially people who's track record would suggest they have for a long...long time....got it right on the majority of occasions

3/ Therfore the voice of reason is right to point out that it's best to take the appropriate action, I can not get my head around this 60's r n b ???? stuff so i choose not to listen to it when i'm out, and would not buy it at any cost...however i do not go in those rooms to take the piss as to those in there its there chosen "bag"

4/ There's plenty to do at nighters, other than listen to what you dislike, i don't watch soaps on tv, or these "talent" things ...i find them embarrasing....so i turn to another channel....not try to ram my "personal" views down others throats

There are far to many mass debaters on here, a higher percentage than on the "rack off" lines.

Do you know what??.....its the friendlyness and good will that keeps us here, after almost 40 years, 30 years on and some still hold a grudge against Mecca stuff, despite the fact that time has shown that Colin was playing the soul music while Wigan etc... went down the 60's white beat led path....Helen Shapiro....etc...etc....come on was it ever so awful, advert music tv themes....and soul was the last consideration!!!!!

I'M ALL FOR THE RIGHT TO AIR VIEWS...BUT THEY ARE YOURS ALONE...KEEP THAT IN MIND EH!!

My lady was angry on reading what was on the thread....and chose to reply in a similar tone....but with the wisdom to not be as dismissive.

If you throw shite around it can end up on you as easily as othersplayin with fire can leave you with burnt fingers

So those who say its perfectly ok to argue the toss...remember that applies to all ...not just those who's opinion you favour most

KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF....GO OUT GET SMASHED N ENJOY THE WHOLE SCENE FOR THE RIGHT REASONS...THE RECORDS SOUND FAR BETTER I IMAGINE TO THOSE OF US WITHOUT OUR HEADS ANALLY ENTRENCHED

Thabkyou and goodnight.......Harpo xx

lm not ramming anything down anyones throat, as l said in my most humble opinion musical taste is personal to every individual so therefore it should remain an opinion to oneself,so righty or wrongly this should never of been a topic for debate, by all means groan on about ones partners not sharing same tastes, in that way lm very lucky to ave a partner who shares my taste on the whole, eg dust my broom he thinks its a classic, l dont, there are records l love eg Baby Washington rather than Timmi Yuro`s version of it'll never be over for me, but it does`nt stop us liking em or playing them in each others company because we have the utmost respect for eachothers musical taste.................. and with that l rest my case and it aint worth the arguement, lve got better things to do than debate about soul music ld rather busy myself listening and learning about the music but most of all dancing to it every weekend as long as the scene lasts.

l felt l needed to put what l did initially because it touched a raw nerve, lm constantly defending my taste in soul music and just because l happen to dj mainly in modern rooms doesnt mean l play "disco music" in my opinion l play soulful records, not northern soul but soul be it 1950`s oldies or the latest 5mins release soulful house and garage.

End of discussion as far as lm concerned,

and as lve already stated it was never my intention to make it personal, just voicing an opinion, if im wrong for doing that........then shoot me.

Hey just to calm this down , i'm just havin a laugh, nowt personal, been up 3 days with a distinct possibility of it ending up as 4 to 5

I'm sure like me you must look at some threads on here with total disbelief...one lot were asking what the weather was like, i look out the window, or open the door, and how it is in THE NORTH EAST DON'T BOTHER ME A JOT

Nor do I CARE WHAT COLOUR SHIT ROLL WAS IN THE BOG WHEN SOME TRACK WAS RECORDED....its knobbishness on a grand scale and i just have to comment at times to highlight the sheer lunacy of it all

Oh and finally i must put things right about heads up asses....it can at times be most benificial.....like when riding a push bike on cold frosty winter mornings, as it will prevent unsightly chapping to the ear lobes....however the downside may be some disorientation...as it can lead to problems in seeing where you are going!!!!
