Of course it was.....unless the postage is over £20!!!

Great album, about 5 volumes (or so?) of mainly 'Northern' stuff.

Funnily enough I was playing some of mine yesterday. Although I haven't got the one you have it is advertised on the back cover of one of mine, I assume yours was the first volume.

They contain stuff like Frances Nero - Keep On Loving Me, Temptations - (Girl) Why You Wanna Make Me Blue, Marvellettes - I'll Keep Holding On, Brenda Holloway - Starting The Hurt All Over, The Contours - Just A Little Misunderstanding, Barbara Randolph - I Got A Feeling and stuff by Al Kent, Shorty Long, The Isley Brothers, Kim Weston amongst others.

Never seen that one before (vol 4), what number is it? Is it a MFP one?

Cheers

Paul

Released on Tamla Motown - STML 11244. I also have a few US releases in the DiscOTech series (1975 onwards) which comprised collections of more contemporary releases and I have one of the compilation albums from 'The Motown Sound' A Collection of Original Big Hits series - all well worth picking up if you see them - especially at £1.99.

DJ colonel custer who spun the sounds in the Maple room at Skegness around 72/74 always played every night to get the dance floor going. It was many peoples first intro to northern. I found another copy last year at boot sale v good nick, havent seen the one with purple sleeve before.

This is the one that segues each track into the next, an innovation at the time, and it mentions people travelling distances just to hear "Six by Six". Not rare but a great album. The ones that are rare are the three volumes of Motown Memories, I think Dave Godin may have compiled them. Volume 3 is especially scarce.

I think the compilations were put together by EMI staff and maybe Dave Godin had some influence on Volume 1 as he did write the sleeve notes. Three columns worth in tiny print. What is it with socialists and cramming as much print onto a page?

On Motown memories Vol.2 Mike Raven writes " the very interesting selection of sicxteen tracks before menow. of course I can afford to say this, i did not select them....they have only asked me to write the sleeve notes!"

I'm sure I have Vol.3 somewhere but I donn't know who did the sleeve notes for it.
