ShorterSoul Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Chrissie, What about the fantastic Joannie Sommers - Don't pity me.. ultimate MP.. there's a great vid of this on Youtube as well... I think you should consider publishing, the Northern Soul Top 500 Mamsey Pamsey Records... You need to put them in preference order 1 - 500 , rather than A-Z though.. looks like you've got you're work cut out!! Jon KoMP

If anyone can help with sound clips for the gloria howell and the patty micheals I would be much obliged QMPxx Edited May 27, 2008 by chrissie
Big Mick Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Over the last 6/7 months we have been having a bit of a laugh about a newly defined category of soul music - Mamsey Pamsey. Some have even suggested that it now warrants its own room.......read into that what you like . The term was coined by Bearsy back in November when Blue Skies found a new home at the Horseshoes in London and referred to the type of music that I lean toward collecting and playing out. What is Mamsey Pamsey? It tends to be mid tempo female vocals with that wow/tingle factor, predominantly 60s but there has been one or two early 70s releases to creep in to my play box and played at Blue Skies by Guest DJs and other residents. A couple of people have joked with me recently saying I should put together a Mamsey Pamsey Top 500. I think 500 is a little ambitious at first so I am going to go for my top 100 and I would like you all to help me compile this by suggesting some of your own - but as the Queen Of Mamsey Pamsey I will have the final say as to whether something makes the top 100 and from this I hope to define the ultimate Mamsey Pamsey record of all time. I will kick off with some of my entries, some of which I own but a few that are still on the Holy Grail of the ever growing wants list. I will put any that I don't own in red italics and at the moment they are in alphabetical order, When I get to 100 entries new entries can kick out existing ones until I feel I have achieved the ultimate top 100. Harry Crosby Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Heres one that might fit the criteria,-DICK&DEE DEE-MAKE UP BEFORE WE BREAK UP-WARNER BROTHERS
Harry Crosby Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Unfortunately MP has to be female vocals only.........apart from that it has all the other qualities QMPxx oops! sorry what about REPERATA & THE DELRONS-ITS WAITING THERE FOR YOU
chrissie Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 oops! sorry what about REPERATA & THE DELRONS-ITS WAITING THERE FOR YOU Another top toon but a little too girlie to be MP.................keep at it you'll get the hang of it But to be fair to you, it is getting very difficult to get on the list now cos there is so much good stuff there already. There are some of my favourite girlie toons on the list just waiting to be kicked out cos they are not quite MP just waiting to find some TOP MP to replace them. QMPxx

Big Mick Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 yep Barnibus = bloke... BUT this Barnibus with a ladys' voice sings about .."the things he does to me to get me under his spell"..... If you've never heard it then I ask that one day you serch it out.. Never a BIG sound but was extremly popular in the Wigan era. I think it was pressed on the SOUL GALORE lable around 1974... I may be wrong.. I do have a copy somewhere and it is a really beautiful track.. one of the tracks which gets overlooked because it was a bit .."GIRLY"... Always will be an old fav' for me and I bet you will like it too if you like tracks with pure soul and feeling.. . BIG MICK..

Lydia Pense, Rozetta Johnson, Chi Chi, Halos, Lynn Vernado, Liz Verdi, Billie Davis (Just Walk In My Shoes) the more sophisticated female 60s vocal Gosh this is hard work getting this across to some of you lot QMPxx
chrissie Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 I thought it was 60's girlie stuff No, that's errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 60s girlie stuff Which I also collect and play a lot of which may be what is confusing you, but MP has that extra special summut QMPxx
chrissie Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 Guess this is classed as a beat ballad, not Mamsy Pamsy. I've always liked this sort of copy of Righteous Brothers sound. Do you know All Strung Out by Nino Tempo and April Stevens? Great track in this style. Dick & Dee is a great track but unfortunately Dick doesn't qualify for MP QMP xx
Geoff Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Hope I'm not too late, but how about Vi Velasco's That's Not The Answer. The composer and arrangers had obviously been listening to Burt Bacharach's work with Dionne Warwick. Also Liz Damon's Orient Express's You're Just In Love, mentioned it to you at Blue Skies, will send file to you tomorrow.
