I've just been sorting out a cupboard in the house and I've got a few record mailers that I don't need or want. So before I chuck them in the recycling bin, I was just wondering what everybody does with theirs. I mean it seems a waste to just chuck them away. I was keeping them thinking I might sell some records and re-use them, but haven't got any records to sell.

Why can't record dealers give you a discount if you return them, a bit like you used to get 10p when you took the bottles back to the shop .

Where do record dealers buy them from?

I never know what to do with mine, they end up getting stacked next to my record player until they topple over & i'm forced to put them in the recycling bin!

Save them for the ones you are going to sell on.......................... which i rarely do & so have ended with a loft full of the bloody things

Good insulation though i guess ! & the mice reckon they make great homes too !

I try and reuse the ones with the least writing on but if I charge someone 2 quid postage they deserve a brand new mailer, I get angry if I pay that and it comes in a 2nd hand mailer. By the way, thanks to Mischief for that big lot of cardboard inners he sent me, sorry mate I forgot to say thanks.

Unfortunately yes .

Send them to Blue Peter they can make something out of them !

Unless you plan on selling a few and you can reuse them then really it's best to just recycle them. However if it helps I would be willing (for a small clearance fee) to take the 45s that came in them a new home

Not a problem Pete... hope you could use them..

Pete you say you get angry but why not put a note in with your records... explaining that you use 2nd hand mailers at times because of recycling... most mailers end up in the bin so surley a mailer that has been used 3 or 4 times is better than keep sending a new one out... as long as it is in decent condition..

I had a record turn up once from the states in an old cut up cardboard apple box that was only 6.5 inches square!!!!

Well the 2 quid charge includes something like 30p for a mailer and if I use a second hand one I'm taking 30p off people for nothing, which I'm not happy with. On the other hand, I have been driven mad by 'green' issues being constantly bombarded at the subject so I'm afraid I don't recycle anything except beer bottles.

Best to tidy that mess up and keep them may need them whern you come to sell your

collection

Pete... thats not a bad thing.. but you may need to drink more.. so you can recyle more.. and also by drinking more and recyling more you are spending more which is helping the europeon economy...

so the more you drink the more you help the planet..

pete didnt you pay 30p for the mailer in first place,when you recieved a 45 in it.

if you send out a 100 45s in new mailers,thats ???????? oh yes £30 worth of mailers.

if you dont send out 100 45s in used mailers,you lose out on the £30 that you paid out for mailers in the 1st place.

if you get my drift.

i've got over 100 (i think, not counted yet) of the US cruciform style 45 mailers (with stiffeners) available to anyone in London who wants them. have got rid of the ones that had already been used twice, so all these are used only once, and so just need re-sealing the other way around.

the UK style envelopes are harder to reuse, have to cover up the address with paper first...
